Make pre engineered FSDs (and other upgrades) available to the wider community

Hello CMDRs 07
I recently learned that the 6A pre engineered FSD was only temporarly available during a community goal.
I find that really sad since now its hardly valuable for me to move away from my DBX with 5A pre engineered FSD to an Anaconda. (basically no advantage in jump range while the Anaconda is so much more unwieldy)

Why not make functional rewards like pre engineered FSDs available to the entire community after a successful community goal and limit rewards that are only temporarily available to cosmetics? This is already done today with the ship skins for taking down the titans.

Why keep updates to engineering that are clearly better than the alternative locked away from the wider community? Would be fab if we could all benefit of those!
Curious to learn about thoughts by other CMDRs 🙏

There are a couple of trains of thoughts posited in previous similar threads.

One is that the cost in materials is higher than DIY.

G5 is not worth the marginal gain, G4 is enough.

Access to such modules was a reward at the time (as were KS goodies like the Cobra Mk IV) and you have to participate at the time.

We all wish for things.

Two alternatives to the DBX, the Phantom as mentioned and the Dolphin (for the fuel scooping and really cool running)

It has also been suggested that many of the FSD jump range increases are marginal and have little real effect unless making thousands of jumps.

Yes but I just like the Anaconda and would love that bulky explorer look, currently 5A pre engineered DBX jumps only 4LY shorter than Anaconda but with pre engineering on the Conda, the Conda would jump a way more meaningful 9LY farther.

But besides I dont understand the inconsistency to make the pre engineered 5A available to all and keep the 6A locked away for most 🤷‍♂️

Kinda agree with this.
But I prefer the dbx.
It's just a better ship. Bear in mind im not just jumping optimally. I'm landing on stuff and that's where the dbx shines.
70+ ly is more than enough.
I have 2 condas. Ones a pacifier killboat. The others a cooled built miner.

I remember once going out exploring in an Anaconda. Once. I personally considered it a downgrade from the Clipper I'd used previously. More difficult to land, less manoeuvrable in supercruise and not for much benefit once you've reached a patch of unexplored space. The pre- engineered 6A in mine isn't doing much good with the ship gathering dust waiting for me to overkill things with frags again either.

Absolutely no complaints about the Krait Phantom I use now though.

Completely agree.
I have the 6A one on my extreme jumper but not on my explorer as its too fragile for my liking.
Fdevs recent way of rewarding modules for CGs but also making them available for materials/credits was a welcome change especially if your out in the black and miss stuff.

Can i just add though that extreme range is not everything.
Only a 54LY jump and after 3 months out in Odin's and Ryker's i fell in love with her as an explorer:

Different CGs in different locations with different organisations putting up the rewards with the size 4 and 6 FSDs being awarded to participants of the CGs to build the Colonia Bridge which took place a year or so later and involved more effort by the participants. All IIRC of course.

Personally I would like to see those two FSDs remain exclusive until some new event is run to actually unlock them rather than reward effort with them and no I am not being dog in the manger about this as I didn’t even attempt to take part in those CGs.

As with many things past, this would require that Frontier admit that they screwed up in the first place by not following their own rules and that will never happen.

The meaningful difference between an Anaconda and a DBX is not the jump range. You can fit more stuff in an Anaconda. If you've no use for that space, then may as well stick with the DBX. Is 5 extra Lys really that meaningful? If your range is less than 30Ly, maybe... But I don't imagine it is.

There are all sorts of things "locked away" and you can't get again. Some may come back, but that is at the whim of FD.

I agree. Locking away non-cosmetic advantages, like the numerous modules that were limited time CG rewards, leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
It's one thing to have one-time-miss cosmetics. That's fine in my opinion, let people have those flashy limited time skins/decals. But something functional, that actually gives players an advantage... that's just scummy FOMO nonsense.
Look at the current CG for example, clearly someone who has the bigger anti-caustic cargo racks will have an advantage in scavenging the dead titan.
You mentioned the 6A pre-engineered FSD, I believe there were smaller ones too, like a 4A/3A. Lots of other modules as well but those FSD are the worst I know of.

You could maybe justify letting participants have access to those early, and letting the rest of us have them eventually. But to release limited time modules that are superior to anything else available is a slimy FOMO thing to do.

Yes but as the requirement to gain the cosmetic paint jobs is just 1 item the advantage of even the size 4 CRCR is irrelevant to the CG. Obviously the more and bigger racks you can fit is an advantage for getting more stuff generally.

In terms of an arcade type of game I would sort of agree with you but Elite is more sim like than arcade and has a rigid timeline so like the real world limited time offers and limited editions make a certain amount of sense, enough that while I regret not getting access to things even if their actual superiority is not particularly significant I would not want to be just given access to them.

I see what you mean but in the end it is just a game design decision, you can produce a short lore paragraph that the company producing these modules decided to open up their inventory and sell to all CMDRs that are interested for these and that requirements.
