Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Planet Zoos current time system is way too fast, but I would love to have seasonal management systems. This time I’m not talking about anything to do with animals. I’m talking about special discounts, events, and other things you can plan around the zoo! Here, I’ll go by season:
  • Fall: this one is common, but a Boo at the Zoo. This Halloween event would have special decorations that can be placed around the zoo, think the twilight pack for a very intentional example. Guests will react positively to the scenery, and if you have your zoo in a colder area it is a good way to boost visitors. The Boo at the Zoo event can even have staff dress up, and could culminate into a Halloween night event. Maybe candy can be given to children NPCs. You could also have a generic Harvest type event, maybe with less pumpkins and ghosts and more leaves and scarecrows.
  • Winter: Christmas is obvious, and the first thing I can think of is Santa at the Zoo! You can hire a special staff member to dress as Santa, which drastically boosts winter engagement. For those who don’t celebrate Christmas, I imagine a Winter Lights event where you can place special glow in the dark decorations. At least for zoos where I am from, Winter is the slowest season. So it would be cool if that could be reflected in game, and winter events can turn that around!
  • Spring: spring has sprung! I honestly can’t think of much for Spring. It’s a bit of an awkward middle stage, at least for where I am from. I can imagine a Spring Flowers event. Where guests can buy native flowers to help pollinators. Easter is another obvious one, like Santa you can hire a special Easter Bunny, and the kids can collect eggs!
  • Summer: ok, here is the big guy! Brew at the Zoo could be a special adult only event, boosting engagement and (intentionally expensive) sale of alcohol. Downside is more security might be needed. Obviously this game might not allow alcohol, so a more safe idea would be Summer Lights. This is the counterpart to the winter light show. Same idea as before, bright signs and statues decorate the zoo for visitors to see at night! The biggest one would be Summer Camps. Hire a special staff member, and place down a special building type, and you can begin hosting summer camps for the kids. Drastically boost community engagement as well as acting like an educational tool. A think it would be cool to have a Summer Volunteer Program as well. Get free labor, and as these staff members gain experience you can eventually hire them. These new experienced staff members will be more efficient than just hiring a random person off the rip.
So that was my ideas for some seasonal management, but I also want to get into Conservation management ideas:
  • You can join a fictional AZA/ EAZA type organization, with perks being higher guest confidence in your zoos, increased staff experience, and better research into animal care being at your disposal. The downside is the standards for your animals welfare are 10x higher, they won’t settle for less! Also a certain percent of your income is expected to go to conservation, this can be money to protect habitats, breeding programs, field research, etc.
  • You can hire a new staff member called the researcher. They can work with the zoos veterinarians to gather data on the animals in your zoos, or you can send them to the field to work with animals in the wild. The researcher can also help with animal breeding, allowing endangered species to breed better in your care. A real world example is how the Bronx Zoo was able to breed and save a type of spray toad that almost went extinct. Or the wild horse, golden Lion tamarins, and California condors also work as great examples.
  • Animals you release into the wild can be tracked, and you can get updates on them as you go along!
Some cool idears but hell no to the 10x requirements, they are allready ludicrious enough, something like a simple average animal wellfare over 90% should do the trick much less agonizingly

Also, in retrospective I should have said this when I first shared the link, I known we've been joking with the video, but DO NOT under the circumstances harass, chastise, or leave negative comments for LionRider.
We can have fun with a video of his that aged like milk (he even says so), but he did literally nothing wrong and if anyone pulls a stunt after I shared the link, I'm going to be really, really, really mad.
I just realized my initial post could have been interpreted negatively, I genuinely meant it in a fun “well that aged poorly” tone, I wasn’t making fun of him. Nick is a great guy and his work is awesome, I just don’t want anyone thinking I’m harassing him.

A lot of these update requests seem very big though, the last few updates have gave us smaller quality of life changes like the shops, domes, staff clothing, etc. not huge management changes. This would be a list of possible features imo:
  • Telescopes. Reuse the vista point, design it to look like those little binocular things you put 25 cents in, then have an animation where a child can look through and there you go.
  • New Enrichment. Just making 3-5 general new enrichment pieces for animals would do so much and bring us back to the old days when new enrichment was still a thing.
  • Elevators. I still don’t get why we don’t have these, reuse the mechanics of the restaurant, place an entrance box, then you must place another directly above it. When guests go in one way they come out the other.
  • Expandable exhibits. Not saying make ones that are split in half or cylinder ones, but just using the gift shop mechanics make it like a grid where you can attach more than one exhibit box and connect them. Maybe it’s not exactly what people want but it’s something and it’s more realistic than a complete overhaul at this point.
  • A foliage brush, hear me out, I honestly don’t think would be that hard. It can already work with the layout of the game, simply have a little button at the foliage section, press it, then click on whatever foliage you want and it will highlight it in a bright colour. You can then in the foliage settings change the radius of the brush and from there just start putting down foliage and enjoy. I feel like this is something they could steal from JWE2 but idk.

Yeah that will be because my rule of anything goes so a lot of suggestions will seem totally unrealistic. Half the list is possible in some form or another but the other half is really pushing what a free update would include, and more of a wishlist for features in a planet zoo 2 at this stage.

May i remind you all that educators went from non existant to the most fleshed out staff type?
Or the fact that the modular giftshop exists?
Its possible, frontier just often prefered to do many smaller things or just pretty useless thighs like the height maps.
If they just focus on one thing im sure that they can give any system a good overhaul in a free update

Is it weird that I don't want an update at all now? Like I always enjoy new features, but if missing it means getting potentially more species or more complex species in the DLC, then I'm happy to miss the update, after all we've gotten 16 updates already. Having a big overhaul for management or exhibits would be good but Idk how that amount of work could effect the DLC, so I would just play it safe and do either no update or really small changes like a couple of revamps.

If no free update means something like 12-20 animals and gets us to / close to 200 species then absolutely I am all for no free update outside of bug fixes. Or maybe the free update is something small, moving zebra to equine rig or adding more chorus/ bathing behaviors.

If we get a standard animal pack, but with scenery, as the final dlc then a free update would be nice to go along with it.

I know it’s late, but considering all the new behaviors that came along with dlc: deep diving, burrows, brachiation, chorus, etc. it makes me wonder if we could get something cool.

Its annoying to not know what the cause of the delay is. If the DLC releases in May, I have no issues with that, but is it because the console took over for a month so they have to get that month back by delaying it past April, or are they spending more time to work on the DLC because its the finale pack that could potentially give us more. If the second reason is correct, I'm starting to think that the final pack could have more species than 8 - maybe.

Whether or not it's the finale pack I think we can safely assume that the delay is the result of the console port.

Entirely depends if frontier wants to make a branded dlc campaign like the past game expansion packs, both of those expansion packs didn't really bring much on the building level but included a bit of everything meaning the possibility of a scenery pack with 5 animals paired with a campaign is a likely chance.

Wonder what the brand could be?
An existing zoo?
A wildlife brand like the WWF?
PETA? 😂
That 100% fake leak on how Frontier is pairing with a bird zoo to add birds?

To be honest I don’t really care for a campaign, I just want more animals. Though I guess even if they do a brand campaign even 5 animals is “more animals”. So either way I get what I want.

Nah, it couldn't be him, if he did it he would call it the George Boggs Aviary pack (It is totally real and includes 17 birds, most of which no one has even heard of)
How dare you say that!

Don’t listen to him Picathartes! Cover your ears!
