Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Hoping we get two to compensate for year one. At least one habitat one exhibit.
My thoughts exactly.
They don’t owe us anything I know that, but it would be only fair to get two species for last anniversary as a compensation for year 1 huge disappointment.

Im sure the new pack will be neat but besides south america, birds and petting zoo packs the only real game changer left for me are update features.
Personally the updates last year all were on the right track, with every update adding atleast one community favorite feature (malayan tapir, orangutan brachiachtion, staff uniforms, null paths) while also providing new building and in one case even management opportunitys. The gridded souvenier shop even if still a bit wonky opend the door for much more interesting and engaging none habitat builds and options for the future with things like gridded exhibits or my personal wish a grid system for staff rooms aswell as some functional furniture to use instead of the staff building boxes, as imo building kitchens and staff areas is surprisingly fun but its just a bummer that they arnt useable and i have to hide staffbuildings somewhere else. While not a big fan of the viewing domes and especally not their big ass entrance doors, they defenetly opend up new options for habitat design and i doubt i need to explain anyone while null paths were a great addition.
Imo tropical had it the best though, with sociality finally adressing one of the games main problems and adding a bit of personality to the animals aswell, as lion brothers for example behave differently then unrelated male lions aswell as a bit deeper social interactions between the animals in general, brachiachtion was made a real mechanic and extended to much more pieces then just the rather ugly climbing frame (still gotta swap out mine), fixing up the ride management and ui, adding the awesome multiaxis movement which now that im used to it is such an efficent time and nerve saver and most importantly the climeable toggle, making the game not just much more fool proof to buggy cheesy escapes from certain animals that shall not be named but also massivly boosted how good the game is able to run as climbable pieces that arnt part of a climbing frame can just be toggled of and with how many of those are part of my houses, fences and trees that improved performance drasticly.
If frontier sticks the landing on one or two more updates on the same level as tropical and just generally keep last years quality, i couldnt be happier

That would be nice! With how JWE2’s free update was I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get much. Though on a positive note Planet Zoo as an IP is Frontier’s alone. So there is more financial incentive to do more stuff for it. With console release and Steam sale it also seems interesting in the game has returned too!

Judging by JWE we’ll be lucky if we even get an update.

Well, chances for this week announecement are really slim. The lqa update was just a week ago. I know there was some talk about how this time it might be announced earlier, but that is more a wishful thinking than anything. If we go by logic and previous patterns, we still have 1-2 weeks before the announcement.

Thats not satisfaction though, thats the bare minimum
Just cause JWE fumbled doesnt mean PZ has to aswell and judging by last years updates theres really no reason to expect anything less then a good update
Maybe so, however Aramar's point still stands. Seeing how Frontier has had a few issues, including the lackluster JWE DLC, plus all the issues with consoles and the devs working on that, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if we get a small update.
And to be honest, I'm happy we'd be getting anything at all than simply a DLC and no update, no matter how small it is. Right now, my most wanted feature is functional gift shops, not the irritating souvenir-filled mazes we received. Once that's fixed (and we know it will be), the only thing I'd really want is an update to how exhibits work, making them easier to build for and/or combining exhibit species together, like the butterflies

I know I'm in the minority here but I'm really figuring that all of the things that we've been "seeing" are fully independent of whatever is happening with Planet Zoo for this next update and DLC. Both of these things have been well underway for a while now so recent console issues shouldn't have much (if any) impact on things. Nevermind that it's likely different people working to fix those issues versus implementing new content. We're more likely to see a delayed release (which we won't release is actually delayed because it'll be ironed out ahead of announcement) rather than a decrease in content at this point, I'd imagine.

And while the last JWE2 DLC was small and it lacked a coinciding update... There's already another one in the works. For all we know that first DLC could have been like when a band needs to release a "greatest hits" album to get out of a record contract. Hah. Maybe Frontier was contractually obligated for X DLCs and tossed that one out just to hit the number they had to hit before end of FY24 (while still letting them end with a bang with whatever is coming next).

I'm not saying we're necessarily going to get a massive update with all sorts of new features, or that the last DLC is going to be massive but some of the reasons being tossed around for why we won't just don't add up for me.

I'm gonna remain optimistic and assume we'll get something decent to end things on! Something awesome, even! Because I don't really see any indicators to the contrary yet. (Fast forward two days and they tease the walrus and musk ox causing me to leave the forum forever.)

I love the Musk Ox and Walruses are majestic, HOWEVER, I think a tundra pack is the least priority right now...

I agree. I think those 2 animals are amazing, and I'd love to have them eventually, but right now I think the focus should be expanding South America with filler species. Because that's all it is: we have South America's star animal, the Jaguar. I can't think of any other super famous star animal like it.

Y'all could argue and say that monkeys and the intelligent ursus are stars, but to be honest they're more like fillers. Essentially, everything in a South American section in a zoo is filler species apart from the Jaguar and the green anaconda. So, another South American dedicated pack will totally fill up gaps that we can use, most namely primates, maybe a small cat, and habitat birds (rhea, ibis, ducks)

And the mara!
Totally.

Like, my ideal SA pack would be something like:
  1. Patagonian mara
  2. Greater rhea
  3. Scarlet ibis
  4. Black howler monkey
  5. Spectacled bear
  6. White-faced saki
  7. Southern screamer
  8. Green anaconda (E)
3 funky birds, 2 popular monkeys, the librarian bear, a rabbit wannabe, and the powerhouse snake. That's not bad...

Of course, that still leaves out a bunch of choices, like a coati, a porcupine, ducks, etc.

But I think that this pack has potential, honestly, and it spices things up by giving us animals nobody really thinks about when making wishlist packs. After all, who else would think of the screamer other than the bane of Planet Zoo-keepers worldwide: DarthQuell?
