DLC18 discussion and predictions

I know petting zoos have lots of ungulates, but after this pack I’m officially done with them. I don’t care if they’re from India or Africa or whatever, we need more diverse picks coming up on the (potential) last pack. Primates, reptiles, birds, marsupials, rodents whatever anything is better than an ungulate at this point imo.

Edit: to clarify, I don’t want any like antelope or deer species, I’m fine with another pig or caprine.

This seems like an odd line to draw, considering we're up to six piggish species if you include the peccary. That covers probably upwards of 99% of the pig diversity you see in zoos. Literally what is left, the Visayan warty pig, which would be our second SEA pig as well as our second "wart" pig? The visually redundant Chacoan peccary?

Meanwhile there's still quite a handful of deer and antelope species that are both visually distinct/appealing and common in zoos. I get being fatigued with ungulates in general, of course, I just don't understand the way you've divided them up.

I don’t expect another swine nor did I want the farm one we are getting, but they are at least kinda fun to build for. Antelopes or deer of any kind are the most boring animals to build for (for me) cause literally all of their enclosures look the same.

If it’s another pig, I see it as a fun build, if it’s an antelope, I see it as “ugh do I really have to do an episode on this one😔

Yeah but there is a difference between important part and like 80
Therefore no, i wont stop critizing blantat favoritism of certain animal groups.

And to be clear its not because i dont like ungulates. If we were to get 15 primates in one year on top of an already primate heavy roster while the only ungulates we had were a giraffe, Zebra and two antelopes id be the first one to say: stop the monkey flow and bring some hooves
I agree its the rate and ratio of ungulates to every thing else especially in animal packs. Last year alone arid had 5/7, eurasia had 4/7 and this year the barnyard pack has a whopping 6/7. The year before had wetlands at 2/7 and grasslands 1/7 a huge difference to now. We got more ungulates in an average animal pack in the the last year then we did in the entirety of 2022.
even if we go back further north America had 1/7 and sea had 2/7 and Looking at the scenery packs the most we have gotten in a single pack is 2 with deluxe, arctic, conservation and europe.

If I did the math right we prior to last year we had a total of 15 dlc ungulates roughly 1 a pack we almost doubled that in 2023 with 11 ungulates across 3 packs. This is the problem its not ungulates arent needed its that we are drowning in them they have become disproportionate to anything else in the game maybe besides carnivorans. This isnt even looking at the base game roster which already had a sizeable chunk of ungulates as expected from a zoo game.

I kinda get the distaste against ungulates, and 100% agree that Arid and Barnyard overdid it. I'd personally switch the black rhino for a baboon and the American donkey for a muscovy duck, turkey or rabbit.

However, there are definitely a handful of ungulates that could add something new, and let's be realistic: it's unlikely we'll get any pack without ungulates. I'll just hope the ones featured are something like Kirk's dik-dik, gerenuk or greater chevrotain. All ungulates, yet very different from anything we got so far.

up until last year we had maintained an almost perfect 1 ungulate per pack ratio I dont expect to suddenly get packs with no ungulates just go back to the days where we werent getting over half of every pack being ungulates.
Also for all the ungulates they keep adding the game is shockingly not very diverse most of what we have are bovids we only have 3 deer and we are straight up missing 2 families the musk and mouse deer.

I don’t actually dislike the barnyard pack, nor do I think all these animals were bad picks (a domestic pack is one of the few where I'm fine with predominantly ungulates, though I wish they weren't almost all UK breeds), but this situation is starting to get so damn memeable at this point.

I understand the dissapointment with ungulates. However, it is one of the bigger groups of herbivores, so I also understand that Frontier adds a lot of ungulates. It's also quite a varied, big group of animals. Some ungulates could, in my humble opinion have some more, mainly caprids. Markhor mainly. Swines and such, not so much. Any extra swine would be nice, but not needed. Like the Dama gazelle, nice, but not needed.

There is still hope for more monkeys, a fools hope is also hope :) As for more DLC's, there are plenty of ideas of DLC's to fill in this year; Central America or a western pack with a few NA animals as well, rainforest, mountains, tundra, perhaps even coastal? so still some solid ideas and I hope we get some more DLC's, we can't end with a farm pack with PZ, no sir!

I would be fine with an ungulate with good conservation representation, like the Peere David’s deer.

Otherwise I agree, I want other animals.
We are on a good role with 4 birds, I want the next pack to have even more!
Maybe get some monkeys and rodents with it too, and some neat habitat reptiles!

Animal Packs peaked at Wetlands, 1 bird and reptile, 1 carnivoran, 2 ungulates, 2 miscellaneous mammals and even an amphibian in the exhibit. Really wish we would have stuck to something closer to this
Wetlands was a great pack with great diversity, even with that I enjoyed arid for example just as much tbh

Both of the 2022 animal packs were the peak of animal packs, even though Grasslands had a lot of carnivores all of them were requested and popular among the community - along with the carnivores the pack had a bird, an armadillo, ungulate and a marsupial. What I would give to get animal packs like these two :(

Both the animal packs that year were great grasslands is still my favourite even though it had 3 carnivorans the roster just felt really strong especially the exhibit animal. Grasslands alone had representation from every continent and all but the aquatic biome. I may be biased since I like grasslands as a biome more than wetlands but both are good.
