DLC18 discussion and predictions

I've long speculated that the majority of issues with monkeys is that the tails and the climbing system don't mix well. We for the vast majority have primates/monkeys that haven't got long tails or ones that can realistically keep their tails upwards during a lot of animations; so I guess that might be the reason. Again, we don't know, but I think the most logical reason is some technical reason we're not aware of 😅

It would explain why for instance the lemur lacks an animation where it has its tail like this, even though it's quite common for them to do so.
I though so too, but then the Amur Leopard and Fossa got the animations on logs where they put their tail to side, just like that. Of course, primates do have a different body type but I would say it could be adjusted?

Aviary Animal Pack
Secretary Bird
Grey Crowned Crane
Great Pelican
Victorian Crown Pigeon
WE) Macaws (Scarlet/Blue and Gold)
WE) Toucans (Toco/Keel-billed)
WE) Hornbills (Rhinoceros/Great)
+ 60 buildings pieces and plants

Just something I thought it'd be plausible based of how they did Barnyard Pack. Do share other ideas if you have.

I assume it's more complex with monkeys given how sitting works compared to the single resting animation these have. At the end of the day it's a guess, there's going to be a reason and it's not going to be "they hate monkeys" hahaha

So do you guys still believe we Will get monkeys and more than one bird in the (probably) final animal pack? Or do you think chances are higher it Will be a lot of ungulates, no monkeys, perhaps one bird?

But why then not just leave it out. I mean the capuchin and proboscis monkey both dont have it and i have never seen anyone really complain about it.
They did it with other stuff thats to hard to get working aswell like the climbing for the water monitor or the piggback riding of the sloth bear. Compared to that monkeys not having their trail drooping down when sitting on a branch doesnt seem like the end of the work either

I mean there gotta be atleast one in the final pack, everything else would be laughably ridiculous to be honest. They have been requested and memed about for so long.

I reckon if it’s a large worldwide pack, we’ll get one bird and two primates. Realistically.

Secretary Bird is top of the wishlist, which puts it in the bird spot naturally. Other options could be the Roseate Spoonbill, Scarlet Ibis or (less desirably) the American Flamingo to give us some South/Central America rep.

Primates wise, I’d go for a Spider Monkey and the Gelada. The Spider Monkey represents new world primates, tropical biomes, and is a difficult new rig to create. The Gelada balances this out as an old world, colder climate, terrestrial and therefore easily riggable primate. These two would be the ideal and possibly most realistic choice for two primates in a ‘worldwide’ pack, in my opinion.

I think people are now focusing to much on the one tail animation I gave as an example hahaha 😅 My assumption is that it's of course much more than that one animation, but the lack of that animation in the lemurs and other long tailed monkeys early on in the game might indicate that longer tails were a hassle for them at a point, and the lack of more long tailed monkey does seem to point at something.

Again, it's only a guess. There's going to be more than one reason, and most of them will be technical; but it for sure won't be "just because". Us not being able to come up a reason, doesn't mean there isn't one.

And we have the "final pack thread" again. I am pretty convinced that there will be more than one Pack. 5th anniversary is a big Thing and IT would be a real Miss If they Stop Support shortly before that. And I do Not think we have to wait 7 months for the next Pack.
I think a South American, a further African and an around the world Pack for the Birthday seem to be possible candidates. South America still misses a lot of its high requested animals, African animals in a IRL Zoo are in Most cases the majority and the residual continents could be finished by an around the world Pack. I would not expect Something completely new. Flying birds or aquatics will probably Not come to the game. There must be Something Held for a Potential sequel. And yes, there will be "Clones" and ungulates and carnivores but I do not mind. A Spectacled Bear is not a Sloth Bear, a Bush Dog is not a Maned Wolf and a Dik Dik or Blackbuck is not a Bongo or Oryx.

Monkeys being outcompeted by other animals mostly carnivorans still seems like most sensible argument for their absence. No we hate monkeys, no silly technical reasons, no skill issue. Old and simple we chosen more popular animal instead.
Honestly that seems like the least likely reason of them.
Like not in a million years could you convince me that they chose the asian water monitor over the howler or the dama gazelle over the baboon because the were more popular

I noticed zooinstitutes.com lists how many zoos they have pictures from in the search, so I thought I'd summarise and order the data for birds definitely present in at least 10 zoos (I was originally just going to do ducks, but it got to the point where it just made sense to do them all). The true values would probably be higher for each species.

Being common doesn't mean much for a DLC of course, there's plenty of rare species in game already.

Monkeys being outcompeted by other animals mostly carnivorans still seems like most sensible argument for their absence. No we hate monkeys, no silly technical reasons, no skill issue. Old and simple we chosen more popular animal instead.
I don't know, the need for monkeys has been pretty loud in the last few months. While I don't think anyone actually takes the "hates monkeys" meme literally, I don't think competition is the problem either.

For the summer DLC, I honestly imagine Frontier is going to choose between three primate options:
  • New World monkey (howler or squirrel I think, as either of these will be theoretically easier to animate than a spider monkey).
  • True baboon (Hamadryas feels more likely, but I will also suggest the olive baboon as I am biased towards the Hamadryas).
  • Gelada (i.e. the pretend fake baboon that Frontier would likely choose because it's more memetic than an actual baboon).
All things considered, in order of likelihood I'd rank it:
  1. Gelada.
  2. Baboon.
  3. New World monkey.
I'd like to say that a carnivoran is guaranteed but I'm kind of at a loss with it. The serval has gained a lot of traction lately but I don't know. If they go the LatAm route (hopefully not) then I have to imagine we'll see the spectacled bear as a wholly uninspired but very likely choice, possibly also the ocelot.

Honestly I think it might just be a case that its taken a while for monkeys to make their way to the top of wishlists, not helped by their variety meaning not just one species has shot to the top. But now looking at wishlists, the howler, spider, tamarin and baboon are all near the top.

I think best case scenario right now is getting the baboon and one NW monkey, I can't see any more than that sadly.

Spectacled Bear for SA is a logical choice. It is one of the Most wanted animals at the moment. I do not See Something uninspired if it will be part of a Potential Latin America Pack.

Oh are we talking African Safari again? Very well, if not Latin America/Americas or a Finale I will reiterate my African Safari list:

Nile Crocodile
Secretary Bird
Hamadryas Baboon
Serval
Golden/Black Backed Jackal
Honey Badger
Masai Giraffe
not sure on the exhibit animal, assuming there would be one.

Hmmm only one Ungulate. Given that 16 of the last 22 mammals have been ungulates, this lineup is definitely not happening. More likely:

Giant Eland
Impala
Masai Giraffe
Gerenuk
Nile Crocodile
Serval
Secretary Bird
and whatever exhibit animal.

Monkeys are like birds, for a long time votes were so divided no central species became a #1 obvious choice. If the secretary bird, black howler monkey, or any monkey or bird were at the #1 spot way earlier I think they could have got in the game already.

While they are at the #1 now, that’s due to Frontier picking other animals over them. Not because they got more votes. It honestly didn’t feel like until under the past year or so, that people rallied behind monkeys like the black howler monkey.
