The new SCO Drive and it's jump range...

a) that's a mistake and will be rectified when the Python Mk II appears in the live game next week
b) the ship will come with an A rated SCO FSD but that module will also be available in outfitting for all
c) the crap is going to hit the fan with a ferocity that will make the last couple of weeks seem like a kiss on the cheek
Can I have that C with the supersized popcorn, please?

The choices of the game is part of the appeal.
That is absolutely correct!
You can choose to keep your 70 LY jump Phantom or replace it with a SCO FSD that does 72 and saves you one jump in every 35 full distance jumps made.

Of course, the choice is yours, but, If I was thinking along the same lines, I'd only consider the ships that can have a positive and tangible benefit with changing them, and make then standard on all of my new ship builds - even with the handling and heat issues...

Is the new SCO Drive going to be balanced before its released?

My issue is that once engineered, that new A-rated SCO Drive has MORE jump range than a the Pre-engineered FSD with Mass manager applied.
This makes all previous FSDs obsolete, I was hoping for more of a meaningful choice between SCO or a bigger jump range.
I must not have kept up. You can engineer the SCO now?

In the sandbox build, yes. Class A SCO engineered with long range and mass manager are beating out the old Sirius drives in absolute range. Whether it's adjusted between now and when it hits the main game is anyone's guess.

yep, in the early access partner program you can, and its the best drive in every department.
the test server doesnt have anti anti guardian field. should we panic that those are going to be removed from the game as well?
smh

Nobody forces you to "regrind". The smart decision would be to replace old FSDs with new ones where needed over time, and keep the old ones running as long as they are sufficient.

Except if one is one of those Jumpaconda deciples who can't sleep at night unless all ships have their jump range minmaxed.
Agree, maybe old stuff could have situational use (es. double-eng FSD with 2 seconds reboot), maybe difference is not so big, i would like a CG double-eng FSD v1 for my Conda but i can live without cause the difference is not game breaking... i feel more the need of CRCR larger of 16 tons :)

Maybe we will have future CG for SCO v1, double-eng FSD v2, or a completly new FSD for long range/long cooldown jumps, who knows but i am sure
someone will whines for "no new contents", "bad contents", "too many new contents" or whatever... complaining is an internationally recognized forum sport.

some points i like to share and think about,
1) currently game design is a whirlwind around Thargoid war, let's say... Elite Dangerous "Age of War"
2) SCO as new meta? SCO is "mainly" for combat ship, is not an accidental error that Phyton Mk2 secret feature is "SCO pro handling" for a combat focus ship, very apt we get SCO and "early access" Phyton Mk2 about the time to assault Titan Hadad and travel 39,230 ls to reach B 8 in HIP 30377.
3) Power play v2.0 will be War on a local conflict scale, with carriers blockade, stronghold to breach, stealth mission to.. ops.. no, will not happen.
4) Frontier need to revive the game and their finances, online games do this with constant rebalancing of builds and asset, the "meta bait" for players, you grind for meta until a new meta update come, grind and repeat.

conclusion and personal thought, i hope after the "age of war" we will have a rewamp for an "age of exploration", war stuff are funny but some new content for exploration and xeno-archeology (Guardian or something new) would be appreciated.

I don't understand complaints of a new FSD being all around better than the old ones. Do we not want that?

Did people complain when the Cutter superseded the Type 9 as a trade ship, and the Anaconda as a mining ship? Or the Corvette superseding everything else as a PvE ship? Anyone who's played this game for over a month should be able to acquire the materials to re-Engineer an FSD in under an hour, if they don't have them in storage already. The "re-grind" is nonexistent.
