DLC18 discussion and predictions

I get that 200+ would look a nice round number on paper. That's a decent, logical reason to do it. But unless the remaining species are clones in the way that the butterflies are... That's a long way to go to use that as a selling point (3+ months of work across however many employees that could be spent on a new game).
Which is why I do think it's not out of the question that we get something like this again for the last pack. Whether it would be the highly requested macaws, hummingbirds or just birds in general, mixed exhibit fish or just more butterflies or even little frogs we can mix in an exhibit.

Choosing a parrot is choosing a fantasy; at this point you might as well ask for a unicorn or sasquatch at the same time.

well there are butterflies so I don’t think it’s THAT crazy for there to be aviary birds. Lorikeets seem easy enough.
Also macaws are often just perching in zoos and kept clipped, especially the ones that were from the pet trade.

Why in gods name have we not brought up the scarlet ibis when talking about South American birds?

Hummingbirds or macaws would be an "easy" way to push it over that number. But man, would it be dissatisfying to only get a single type of flighted bird... Better than nothing, I suppose. But still.

I, for one, would welcome our ibis overlords!

Especially over the South American Emu.

Honestly I’m still pretty starved for birds, so there is none I would hate. Some I prefer over others definitely, like I would choose the grey crowned crane over the secretary bird. The secretary bird is still an absolutely beautiful animal though, so I would only have a small bit to say. Even if the shoebill isn’t as “useful” I can’t really say too much about it either, it’s a cool guy!

Obviously if we get more “clones”: black swan, American flamingo, green peafowl, another small penguin. I wouldn’t be as excited. Even then, I would appreciate the options. We got the siamang and lar gibbon so close to one another, and even now we have gotten two donkeys within a year of one another. Do I even have to mention the pigs and other ungulates we got in the same time frame? I have been waiting since launch for another option of flamingo, and now with Eurasia I would love more waterfowl.

The only thing is trying to balance my hopium and copium with Frontiers habitats of picking a handful of stars, and then their choice of filler animals. The filler animals are usually not the birds I need. So we will see.

I wouldn’t be surprise if the final dlc just doesn’t do it for me, but I’m open to be surprised and amazed.

Switching it up, what would be some updates you like to see in the next, potentially last pack?

I'm over the moon as my most desired feature - petting zoo interactions via the animal encounters - just got in.

Playgrounds, exhibit boxes being able to house multiple species - the tree frogs in particular, and maybe a new transport ride?

New exhibit boxes.

Petting zoos was the best update we've had in a while.
Right now, I just want smaller exhibits and potentially have mixed species exhibits

Any update to the exhibit system would be welcome but not necessarily a priority for me unless it was pretty drastic (e.g., smaller boxes for smaller species; making the system more modular/customizable; smaller mammal species).

For me, the key features I'd like to see would be:
  1. Scaling: This would be a great "end-of-game" feature that would make all of the nature and construction pieces infinitely more flexible. And, contrary to popular belief? Frontier wouldn't need to "re-do" all of the in-game items for it to work.

  2. More flexicolor: Not really a feature, so much as updates to existing content. Making some of the earlier game pieces flexicolor that really should have been from the jump (e.g., certain wall sets) would also go a long way toward making existing pieces more flexible.

  3. Elevators: Pretty self-explanatory! This should be doable using the restaurant/viewing dome mechanics and would make indoor building much easier. Beyond that, we would also be able to make our builds more inclusive.

  4. Customizable restaurant menus and/or new food shops: Allow us to name items on shop menus ourselves (and customize the add-ons list). If not that, then just give us a few more food/drink shop options. Oh, and vegan options would be good too! Would be nice if the update came along with some additional restaurant accessories too (e.g., customizable menu boards, a new restaurant tables, a bar table with stools).

  5. Animal Ambassadors: Allow for certain animal encounter/interaction "shows" to take place for key habitat species. Similar to what we have for exhibit species but you would have to install a "stage" / platform for it to take place on. Not sure what species it would be other than the obvious ones but I could see warthogs, cheetahs, foxes, and raccoons being good for this.
There's other stuff too, but these are the ones I'd consider to be my highest priority.
