Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

(PS he'll totally be back ;))

Pipeline guy didn't even make it a day...

He's been posting away on his substack. This is the latest one:

Star Citizen: The Need for Adversarial Press

Why continue?

Howdy!

As you’ve noticed, I have once again retired for only about a day before getting right back into the saddle. I wanted to take a moment and wax poetic about my intentions about starting to post here more often - and what those posts may be.

This isn’t PIPELINE - I don’t care about clicks, nor do I care much about posting “hit” content itself. What I do care about is intentions. Mine are simple - to inform people about things that they would like to know about. What I also like doing is figuring out the intentions of others, especially when those intentions are relevant to a group that is not yet informed on them. I am of the belief that CIG like other game companies, or hell, other companies in general are unclear on these intentions. This can be for a variety of reasons, but when these reasons begin to interfere with a consumer’s right to be informed properly on a purchase, then I believe we have a problem. Over the past several years, I have made it a bit of a hobby to ask around and figure out what intentions were behind various actions that have taken place in the past, and most relevant to all of you…

I have asked about what their intentions are on the future; What is the intended final product of Star Citizen?

I believe I’ve given one of the clearest answers, one that has yet to be properly given to anyone outside of CIG, but I need more time to give these answers context, and additional answers to a few questions:
  1. Why is it now that they’re heading for 1.0?
  2. Is everything alright internally?
  3. Why has it taken so long?
  4. Are they confident in reaching their goals?
These questions might not be relevant to what you want to know (I’m sure what you all really want is the latest and greatest ships coming soon only), but I am of the belief to fully comprehend the direction of development and to properly get a feel as to why this game has taken so long, then every perspective must be considered.
I will level with all of you; There are happy employees, and there are disgruntled employees; There have been cheers and parties, and there have been shouts and arguments.
This is the reality of any project, but I do not believe this reality is so ugly that exposing some of this machinery will taint both the project and your will to continue supporting it. Star Citizen will continue forward whether these articles get published or not.

Ground rules though:
  1. No allegations towards specific staff members will ever be made or tolerated.
  2. No pressure will be given towards any sources to leak/share their experiences. I have always ran a “call in if you have info” policy, and make my direct communications outwards limited to direct corporate clarifications.
  3. Story content footage will continue to not be leaked. This is the culimination of years of work, and I/my sources would prefer its content and visuals unspoiled. However, information relevant to its release will come as it becomes available.
I will remain open to contact on the proton email I used previously as I continue to be the only one with login access to it (and am frankly too lazy to make another). I would prefer to speak with people who have already departed with the company, who are open to speak on their experiences. This is a platform dedicated to hearing everyone out, so please, let us hear you [...]

Berks gets Lumberyarded again...

Couldn't help but notice that the terrain flicker was happening regularly during his earlier defence of 'Star Engine' ;)

(So maybe it's totally unrelated to vehicle booms and it's just there all the time. But if the server tick thing holds, then possibly it's a sign of a server under stress? And the boom is just good ole desync ;))
He did learn. When he said "The game is in a better state than it's ever been", he stopped the bike and didn't move for 20 seconds.

suck it haters! cig will actually stop selling something.

Ah, FOMO again. Please give CIG more money.

What's the ultimate move in this theatre though? SC is about to release so we're gonna stop selling it soon! Only true believers will get to experience heaven the game from now on! Get in while you still can!😂
Two options:
Find one of the golden tickets hidden all around the CitizenCon bathrooms that allow you to purchase one SC 1.0 package.
Or fight a developer for theirs.

Just watching a Joshua Strife Hayes video on Shroud of the Avatar from 3 years ago.

Someone in the comments notes how they backed both SotA and Star Citizen and its turned them off crowdfunding.

Of course, there are replies from the SC faithful.

Cyberpunks recent trainwreck of a release has only reinforced what a wise move delaying SC has been. 2077 has a ready made studio, and tools from making there last 3 games. CIG started with a handful of people and has grown to over 600 in the last 8 years. SoTa is an unsalvigable dumpster fire, but SC is still getting the time in the oven it needs to shine

If its time in the oven, SC is now burnt to a crisp.

It's all mental diarrhea in variations. "I'm happy they take all the time they need." "They put it in the oven until it is done." It's all disingenious nollocks to solely excuse non-delivery and underperformance. Ever used a radio where you can tune in to different frquencies? The average Citisn't comment is kinda what noise constitutes on the radio.
I mean I get that it has a funny part. Same goes for Donald Trump. In the end I think the nonsense gets a bit too much attention nowadays: "Hey look at this excrement!" "All right that's a turd." "And now look at what I found under it!!!"

Prison seems to be extra borked at the mo. (As documented in this noob story).

O2 levels are off, and the O2 machine is only giving out drabs.

(Anyone who enjoys sweary clips should check out summits rants about trying to remove a backpack to get through the desynched laser mines incidentally. It seems the new crawl animation has made that section nigh impossible ;))

Not sure if the price hike to $150 on the MK1 starter model happened earlier in the year but either way... what better way to remove an item from sale than a price rise!? (equivalent to two or three AAA games at that).

Buy now while stock lasts!

Although so much evidence, I still find it difficult to get my head around people spending these sums and more on vapourware! But I also find it difficult to understand some people’s politics etc so it just makes me a little uneasy for the future of the human race :)
Maybe it’s similar reason to these monkeys enjoying the extra grape!

A musical bug interlude for your Saturday :)

I'll never understand how the commandos shout "SC is so immersive" from the rooftops, while their ship suddenly explodes without reason nor warning, while the player cam suddenly detaches and gives the commando a view of the inside of their chars head, while invisible doors cause instant lag and ship destruction, while their chars one moment happily piloting a ship and the next are flung through the craft and into the void, while their carefully gathered boxes of random items fall through the floor of their ship or just disappear entirely. And many other occurrences. I can think of nothing less "immersive".

The more I think about it, isn't SC just a "Switch Pc Off and Go Outside" style of game? I coin this new style of game, the "SPOGO", it's like an MMORPG only with the game removed. :D

The bugs form a kind of survival gameplay. You can enjoy your alien vista, while never knowing when some inexplicable space peril will invert your face...

Some players can totally roleplay this as 'sciencing the crap' out of their situation ;)

That, and the foolish expectation of the "potential", the evergreen hope fueled by the funds tracker of what the game could be if it wasn´t so darned shallow and broken.
