DLC18 discussion and predictions

I know people want a NA pack for the wood cabin and Native American scenery, but what animals do people want with it?
I’d say make it about the “Forest” so it can have a bit of everything for everyone.

The set would be, as you said, cabin themed. I’ll go like the barnyard pack and make it 7 animals and props.

Animals
  1. American black bear
  2. American wood duck
  3. Golden pheasant
  4. Reeves muntjac
  5. Black howler monkey
  6. Ocelot
  7. Western capercaillie

Idk as much as I want exhibit animals / boxes to be reworked it feels like something a sequel would take and put it to the max. Like if it comes in an update it'll probably give us a couple new exhibit sizes, but if they leave it til a PZ2 they can go all out, actual loops for exhibit animals instead of being statues, new shaped exhibits, tile by tile exhibit construction (like the gift shops) and we'd probably have more exhibit animals in general.

Yeah true.
Although for me personally the "leave for sequel" argument isnt really particulary strong. While yeah a sequel surely has the potential to do amazing things with the exhibit system, its also in all likelyhood 5+ years in the future and isnt guaranteed to come at.

Honestly considering we were all so far off base with the last dlc I wouldn’t be shocked if it is once again nothing like we predicted.

Last year I remember talking about domestics/ children’s zoo animals, could it be a coincidence? Maybe, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if Frontier has been planning things out for a long time. It’s probably a “ship turns slowly” type of deal. So either it’s one of the popular themes from last year, or in general one of the more popular themes. While it doesn’t rule out another South America pack, part of me thinks it won’t be.
The thing is we werent we were saying especially towards the start that the best time for a domestic pack was spring and many people did have the idea it was just so controversial that the idea got stomped out pretty quickly in favour of south america spam
Here were some of the themes I remember talking about:
  1. Islands - Oceania and Tropical
  2. Coastal - nothing yet …..
  3. Forest/Rainforest/South America (a lot of it was due to Tropical only having one SA animal) - Tropical
  4. Mountains - got a number of animals in the Eurasia Pack
I don’t know if anyone else remembers what else was discussed.
one that comes up quite a bit still is a safari pack as well as cold climate not mountains pack ideas and my personal favourite idea an education / museum scenery pack.

I really hope the exhibit boxes get reworked, the popularity of it on my wishlist is so obvious, frontier would have to seriously hate the exhibits to not do it eventually. Personally I think we would get something sizeable in the update although not holding up my hopes up with how buggy these large features are.
There are so many small things they could do to make it better like making null walls for the small exhibit, giving us the foliage and assets used in the exhibits as scenry, adding baby models to the bats, sloths and butterflies or even letting us pick the backdrops instead of always using the same tropical tree.

there are also bigger changes I would like to see such as making the iguanas exhibit optional, modular exhibits with both a smaller (in height and width) exhibit for the invertebrates and the ability to make them longer to mimic the longer NOT SQUARE habitats you normally see for large tropical snakes.

Also on the addition of gliding mammals to WTE they could work there but honestly gliding mammals would be perfectly fine as habitat animals (have you seen the cloud leopard jumps) they would just need floaty jump that they could start from climbing something I dont see it being ground breaking and they move too much for the exhibit system to work.

Honestly because of the absolute travesty that is planet zoos scaling the WTE feels alot smaller than it actually is it could easily house most perching birds such as budgies and macaws and would only really be a size issue for the larger birds of prey.

Oooh I would LOVE Native American themed build pack or half build pack.
It's hard to chose the right animals tho. I would imagine maybe animals slightly from around american deserts for it and adding animals which misses in american roster?

First of all, bison remake as a free update?
1) Coyote
2) Bobcat
3) Desert bighorn
4) Black bear
5) Horned lizard (E)
??

Most can be easy reskins, doable for devs. If more animals availible then I'd like to see
6) Mule deer
7) Jackrabbit
8) Ring Tail cat
----
9) Wood bison (unlikely, I guess after Wisent we won't get another one)
10) Mexican wolf (I guess people would be furious about this choice but I'd really like some desert-type of wolf, or at least endangered Red wolf in some pack)
11) Oppossum (I would really like to get it for PZ but it might not fit the overally desert theme)

If birds were possible for some miracle reason I'd swap some animals for any of these
1) Roadrunner
2) Elf owl (WTE?)
3) Gamble quail (WTE?)
4) Burrowing owl
5) typical Eagle or Hawk (very unlikely but it would fit native american theme)

Contrary to my post, I actually agree with this. Haha. But if they can do it fully as part of an update? I'm down.

I definitely think having it implemented as part of a free update is infinitely less likely compared to having it be in a sequel, anyway. Those boxes will probably be the same 'til the end for Planet Zoo until we get a sequel.

I was also thinking about what animals a pack like this would get but realized that the building pieces don't really have to match the animals too well. We got the oceania pack with Polynesian pieces but also mainly temperate animals from Australia & New Zealand, we got the tropical pack with an Indonesian theme but also two African animals & one South-American.

That leaves some more room for American animals we wouldn't necessarly associate with the building theme.

I wonder if there is something about their functionality that prevent them from making the walls null.
I have been wondering the same before. I think the biggest issue might be the way keepers interact with them. The caretaking is done by them walking up and cleaning the window. That would of course look awkward if there is no window though I think most players could live with that.

There gotta be something. Otherwise i really couldnt explain why its not a thing by now. They made so many updates to the exhibits over the years but them stop at the most requested one? Especially since the WE already had that option from the start?
Might be funticonal, might be coding related or something else, but there is something

I do agree that the next update could bring us another large feature though, last update gave us petting, and before that we got actual gift shops, so the next and possible last update could follow this. It needs to be something that wouldn’t be a selling factor for a sequel though, so my best guess would be either hotels, telescopes, or maybe an improvement to an ingame object like realistic hoofstock feeders, similar to how we got the new giftshop on top of the ones we already had.

Elevators, telescopes, and more realistic feeders for hoofstock would all be great additions!

Does anybody think that the next CMS game being a PlanCo sequel might be influencing the free update features, or scenery items, for Planet Zoo? I was just thinking about it now and something like hotels, to my mind, aren't critical for a zoo game but if they have an updated system that they want to incorporate in the sequel... Why not soft-launch it with Planet Zoo? Could also b be what they were doing with the gift shops!

And, to be blunt, I've always felt like some of those Oceania pack scenery items felt theme park-y (e.g., the lava rocks)... /tinfoil hat

I can't believe we didn't think of this with the twilight pack 😂 We complained and complained about it being too planet coaster like but no one thought, what if we are a testbed for a coaster sequel. The lava rocks though do work for realistic builds, everyone needs to build a galapagos area to see they do work in a zoo.
