DLC18 discussion and predictions

I know we talk about the same stuff a lot, but considering how out of the blue the last dlc was I’m actually excited to see this one! I’m also open to me seeing the line up and then getting a bit disappointed 😂

I feel like the next dlc might make me like this:

Or it will get me like this:

At this point im willing to take literally anything thats monkey related or a tree kangaroo or finally my dreams comes true and secretary, my big boi walrus and tamarins come into the game.

People would probably get mad for a week then slowly get attached with it.

Imo, Golden Snub Nosed Monkeys arent even that bad and could be a solid addition. People would probably get mad for a week then slowly get attached with it. They are truely majestic creatures.
I mean considering how people still talk about the Arid pack or Barnyard pack I don’t think so unfortunately. Granted I’ll say this, if a packs line up is very solid it can diminish most picks.

If Arid had a baboon + grey crowned crane replace two of the options I feel like it would have went from one of the most hated packs to one of the most loved. All it would have taken was the crane rig and the mandril rig, and it would have made everyone super hyped.

Likewise if barnyard gave us a rabbit and duck you wouldn’t hear as much from people.

Next pack is definitely having a top 10 meta wishlist.
Latin America Pack is in the demands but they can execute a better path with said again an equatorial or Island animal pack.

Equatorial Animal Pack:
  • Coquetries Sifaka {Main Headliner}
  • Hamadryads/Gelada
  • Honey badger
  • Secretary Bird
  • Black Howler monkey
  • Black Buck
  • Coati
  • Somali Elephant Shrew [Exhibit]

Island Animal Pack:
  • Goodfellows Tree Kangaroo {Main Headliner}
  • Southern Rock hopper penguin
  • Walrus
  • Northern Sea Otter
  • Coquerel's Sifaka
  • Aye-Aye
  • Japanese Serow/Celebes Crested Macaque
I know these packs may not give a lot of wants, but it will give a bigger range for animals like the heavily wanted Tree kangaroo and the Walrus or the Secretary Bird with the Howler and Hamadryads.

Put a golden snub nosed monkey with a spectacled bear and a tree kangaroo and people will automatically put the animal pack in top 5. I know that you cant just put one good animal and the rest be obvious clones with different textures. Id rather have a good animal with the rest good and highly textured animals.

An Islands pack should be filled with birds like the spoonbill, scarlet ibis, pelican, Hawaiian goose and Victoria crowned pigeon

1. Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo
2. Short Beaked Echidna
3. Coquerel’s Sifaka
4. Brown Pelican
5. Hawaiian Goose
6. Victoria Crowned Pigeon
7. Roseate Spoonbill
8. Any Chameleon

Yes that could happen with some being replaced but Walrus and Rock Hopper Penguin is a pretty big want so maybe it could be..
  • Goodfellows Tree Kangaroo
  • Short Beaked Echidna
  • Coquerel's Sifaka
  • Walrus
  • South Rock Hopper Penguin
  • Hawaiian Goose
  • Brown Pelican
  • Blue Iguana

Penguins are considered a bird and the reason Walrus is there because its a huge want from the community.

We could maybe get 3 packs with the 3 packs being maybe:

Equatorial Animal Pack:
  • Coquetries Sifaka {Main Headliner}
  • Hamadryads/Gelada
  • Honey badger
  • Secretary Bird
  • Black Howler monkey
  • Black Buck
  • Coati
  • Somali Elephant Shrew [Exhibit]

  • Short Beaked Echidna
  • Coquerel's Sifaka
  • Walrus
  • South Rock Hopper Penguin
  • Hawaiian Goose
  • Brown Pelican
  • Blue Iguana
Keeper Collection Managers Pack
  • American Black Bear [Headliner of the Pack]
  • Great White Pelican
  • Mandarin Duck
  • Gelada
  • Geoffroy's spider monkey
  • African Leopard
  • Sea Otter
  • Aye-aye
  • Scarlet Ibis
  • Bush Dog
  • Greater Rea
  • Serval
  • Shoebill
  • Exhibit Creatures:
Jacksons Chameleon [EXHIBIT]
Macaw and Budgie [WTE]

The animal lineup and the animals chosen doesn't have to be the same but if they do this, I think it will be a good end for planet zoo taking down most of the wanted animals with some stragglers left behind unfortunately.

As other people said, it would be nice to finally get ANY monkey, but South America needs them way more. If we're really down to the last pack or two, I would not view the GSNM as a good pick.

Though I don't see the GSNM as a priority specifically for primate representation, it is a great animal to make the Chinese players happy. A lot of people say that North America and Europe (though there are still some open niches and a missing bear) are somewhat overrepresented, which to me is expected and totally fine. A huge chunk of the playerbase and the online community comes from those places. A lot of us want the basics for our local animals. However, Chinese players make up a big chunk of the playerbase, but the language barrier keeps many from participating in this community. East Asia isn't badly represented, but I don't think it's quite gotten the same treatment relative to its biodiversity.

From what I understand, the Golden Snub Nosed Monkey is the top missing local star animal for building Chinese Zoos. If I were trying to build a Chinese Zoo, I would also want a deer and the alligator. Already, the community wants a muntjac and some ornamental birds, especially the Mandarin Duck and Golden Pheasant. The yellow-throated marten is also a pretty cool animal. For Japanese sections, I'd also want a raccoon dog and an ungulate, probably the serow. If we're looking at another few years of DLCs, I'd hope they all get in.
Are there chinese player forums where you can see this data? This forum leans heavily on english speaking countries.

Yeah that's what I'm seeing aswell. If I want to build an area full of primates where all 3 regions are full of diverse primate choices, I have the choice of:
  • Asia - Proboscis Monkey, Siamang gibbon, lar gibbon, bornean orangutan
  • Africa - Gorilla, bonobo, chimpanzee, mandrill, ring tailed lemur, red ruffed lemur, black and white ruffed lemur
  • South America - Capuchin monkey
Largely, asia and africa are good enough for general representation but arguably Africa is the best off with great apes, monkeys and lemurs. South america is stuck with one monkey meaning a tropical area is either going to have one monkey habitat or multiple capuchin habitats to try and simulate that diversity of monkeys.
I'd like to note one thing. While we're great on apes and lemurs, the old world is very lacking in monkeys. India has no monkey, Africa has the ground dwelling Mandrill and is in great need of some more arboreal species like the Guereza or Diana monkey, also the Baboon. Another hole in the roster is any nocturnal monkey.

If I had to prioritize the monkey slots in the roster just to cover the "basics", I'd do it in this order (also maybe in one pack?):
  1. Large south american monkey (Howler/Spider...)
  2. Baboon (any)
  3. Small south american monkey (Tamarin/Marmoset...)
  4. Indian monkey
  5. African arboreal monkey
  6. Nocturnal primate (Aye-aye/night monkey/Galago/Loris)
  7. Rare monkey slot
And only after that more niche species or species covering ground similar to what we already have.

While i dont have any data, if league of legends has told me anything then that pandering to chinese audiences seems to bring big buck.
Generally if we should actually get another year of support id be in full support of a pack that panders hard to the chinese, make it a china scenery pack with the golden pheasent, voldemort monkey, either peeres david deer or reveese muntjak and either the tanuiki, yellow throated marten or any other cooler animal im not thinking of right now + the chinese water dragon as the exhibit and some gorgeous chinese inspired scenery and you not only got lots of cash on your hand but also a most likly generally very well recieved pack.
Especally scenery wise theres so much that frontier could do with a revisit to the asian theme so im confident that especally the builders would jump on such a pack for the pieces alone

You are absolutely correct, I'm surprised China doesn't have as much animals as its such a diverse region with Sambar deer's, Chinese alligators and golden snub nosed monkeys. Literally four of the five species in the world are found in China which means its a literal Biodome, also Rhesus macaque could be added to represent India and China as they are popular over there. The reason North America and Europe seem overrepresented is because frontier mostly focuses in Africa and those regions. We could see that especially with the newest Barnyard animal pack. It was literally overloaded with British species. Frontier has a somewhat problem with focusing on Africa, NA and Europe while leaving out South America and some parts of Asia. Its not bad that they are doing this as North America, Europe and Africa has one of the most fascinating animals but what about areas like in China, the Amazons and the Andes Mountains.
They could try to focused a little on China because their are some meta Wishlist wants in China like the Pallas cat, Raccoon Dog.
IMO a very underrated region in Planet Zoo.

They honestly need to add a Nocturnal house feature, some players are not as skilled as other builders to make a full on Nocturnal house. Planet zoo should get theirs butts up and actually get in a Nocturnal House so we can have actual animals like the Kiwi, Fennec Fox, Crested Porcupine, Binturongs, Clouded Leopards, Wombats, the list can go on and on. They seriously need to add an nocturnal feature for this game for realism and maybe even a small niche pack if planet zoo life continues.

Maybe possibly like a Nocturnal Animal pack with:
  • Aye-Aye {Headliner of the Pack}
  • African Civet
  • Bat Eared Fox
  • Kinkajou
  • Southern Tamandua
  • Pottos/Pygmy Slow Loris
  • Ocelot
  • Tokay Gecko/Dormouse [Exhibit Animal]

What species would you choose for this monkey pack format?
I know your not asking me the question but me personally I would choose:
  • Black Howler Monkey/ Geoffery's Spider Monkey [Headliner of the Pack]
  • Gelada
  • Golden Lion Tamarin/Cotton Top Tamarin
  • Lion tailed Macaque/ Rhesus Macaque
  • Bush Babies/Galago
  • Mantled Guereza/ Coquerel's Sifaka
  • Golden Snub Nosed Monkey/Celebes Crested Macaque
  • 60 Pieces of arboreal climbing sets and sign pieces.

Yeah if I'm being honest, old world primates are far from complete since the vast majority of primate needs for my zoo projects are old world rather than new world. It just hurts that south america only has a single monkey to choose from when dealing with sizeable south american collections, even just the howler monkey would vastly improve the south America standing.

Primates like the hamadryas baboon, colobus monkey, lion tailed macaque, and the aye aye should still be considered needs to address the wider problems of primate representation.

If it was about whats best for the game id say:
1. Any Spider Monkey as they are far harder to mod then howler, have a very usefull rig and would use the binturongs hanging tail thing and maybe expand it which would be cool
2. Feeling Fancy today so Olive Baboon. 65 holdings are nothing to sneeze at and they are the quintessential baboon. If someone says baboon, i bet that an olive baboon is what they are thinking about
3. In the dream world where it would be a habitat animal, the common marmoset. Besides being iconic and the second most common primate in zoos just behind the cotton top tamarin and very unique looking. Its propaply the smallest habitat animal we would ever get and that alone would bring lots of value. In a more boring world i choose the cotton top tamarin, as its even more common and got an arguably even wilder look and a great conservation story.
4. Gray Hulmans arnt the most common langurs, but they got one of the most iconic looks and would be a great backbone as "the not weird" langur
5. Colobus Monkey is the standout here regarding popularity and as i got no issues with it why not?
6. Slow Loris are best loris
7. Bias says red shanked douc as they are propaply the most beautiful monkeys imo, but logic says the GSNM really deserves the slot. Important for china, looks uinque, no complains
