DLC18 discussion and predictions

This isn't a bad theory. My thought was always that there just wasn't a suitable exhibit animal given the pack's theme, current exhibit functionalities, and the free update. So them doing the scenery items was a way to compensate for that. From a cost perspective, based on my math each "animal" in a pack is generally worth ~40 scenery items. Factoring in the items that get developed for each exhibit (general exhibit layout plus the various enrichments) and considering how "simple" some of the items were... The math makes sense for me.

But either could be true. Though, TBH, I feel like the donkey was literally just somebody going "I know what a donkey looks like; I got this!" but... They didn't.

For the SEA animal pack, I actually think that happened because people were continually upset/disappointed by the lack of animals in certain packs. At the time there was a pretty large outcry about that. Species were being missed and people were just really calling out for more. I think that was the first time I feel like the community really felt heard by Frontier. And contrary to what some people think they have really listened to the player base. There was a large Word document that was compiled by folks on the BroNation Discord and shared with Frontier at one point a few years ago, complete with all sorts of suggested features and at this point I think virtually all of them have made it in.
TBH I thought the middle ground they reached was pretty good, sacrificing one single exhibit animal is worth it for the quality of props we got.

I finally finished my “entrance” (it’s probably the most effort I put in one, but I still have an issue with how my builds look) and decided I want the barnyard animals to be the first animals of my zoo. The props + animals got me back into building habitats again. It took me 2 ish hours to make a combined barn and highland cow habitat, and I like how it turned out! I tried to do what I learned in my Education in Zoos thread, and make the place seem more “real”. I will try to get screenshots as I am actually happy how it turned out. (But man, I really wish the game had some WTE birds. A nice barn owl would have been ABSOLUTELY PERFECT)

So while animal variety can help, those props absolutely made the pack for me.

Not to mention that there really isnt a fitting unless you got into exhibit mammals and birds.

There is stuff like bearded dragons and such who you could consider domestics, but those arent barnyard animals at all

Yeah, now that we're in July, I think June 2024 will go down as the quietest month in the history of the game.
A grand total of 4 posts on their social media, the forums grasping for topics to discuss, and a minute and half discussion on the live stream (also am I the one with thought the host seemed kind of idk "annoyed" to talk about PZ?)

It's certainly a bizarre time. We know another pack is coming, but still I've never seen an transition period between DLCs this quiet, tbh I almost forgot about the game lol
I mean, it's certainly calmer than things were in summer 2020 when there was that massive gap between the South America and Australia packs. Haha. :ROFLMAO:

I'm just really glad they told us there was another pack coming during that one livestream. Because without that the temperature and speculation in these threads would be very different... My money is still on seeing a bit of a ramp-up in general from Frontier in ~2 weeks for the new game, followed by a SteamDB update for Planet Zoo shortly thereafter and a subtle tease during the next livestream. So hopefully the silence is ending soon!

The props were pretty okay. But man, I honestly think the lack of flexicolor options for the bulk of the pieces really holds that pack back. Even the picket fence pieces we got only had one channel! So you can re-color them but they're always going to look rustic and worn with no option to make them look "new." Same with the other wooden fence pieces, the barrels, etc. That's maybe the sacrifice they had to make but I actually think the pack on the whole would be received better if they had made more of the pieces flexi. They're still useful but making some of those pieces flexicolor would have made it 200% more useful and made the response to the pieces less tempered.

All that said, I actually think this pack really inspired a lot more people than usual to build specifically for the pack (and in a different way) like you just outlined. Much more so than, say, Eurasia, ever had a hope of doing.

Oh, for sure! There's quite a few animals that they could have squeaked in one way or another. But most wouldn't fit the barnyard theme. The only two possible options I could think of would be rabbits and/or a barn owl. Rabbits as exhibit animals would be weird and we all know the deal with the barn owl so... Yeah. No exhibit makes sense for that pack!

Domestic Silk Moth Could've Worked. Due To Them Being Flightless The Would Be Perfect For The Regular Exhibits. Also Look At This And Tell Me You Don't Want It In The Game.

Then i hate the miss oportunity of having it as prop in this pack. So many of those in this DLC (no duck, no rabbit, no pygmy goat, no beehives, no barn owl for WTE (although it was already unlikely), no stand alone wood pieces to match the door - fences, etc)
Yeeah idk to be honest. I feel you can build a beehive pretty easily with exisitng pieces and the potential bee particle effects would be so small that you likely wouldnt see them anyways.
So i cant say im mad they didnt do it

I know it isn’t the same, but when conservation gave us the insect hotel I was pretty satisfied. Not to mention we got all those bee “signs”.

I Just Realized 1.17 Would Have Been The Perfect Update To Add More Peafowl Colour Morphs; Just Like 1.14 With The Bactrian Camel, 1.15 With The King Penguin And, 1.16 With The Bengal Tiger And Siberian Tiger.

I feel he usually does. Definately doesn't seem like his love and passion project, but I also can see it being frustrating to constantly see a still passionate fan base and you have nothing to cater to them.

To me the streams feel like PZ players invading something that is meant to be an Elite Dangerous stream. Every single month.
The first stream I still liked, but the more months past, the more I feel these strams are so unexcited, unpassionate, stale, scattered. Even the people being interviewed often seems like they can't wait to get out there. No good vibes.

I miss creativity, laughter and excitement. Remember when streams where entertaining and not like watching the news? Good ol' times.

the watching difference at the beginning and after they announced the 30 second segment for planet zoo is crazy
