For me, I change some of the animals around a bit. But here is my 4 as of right now.
- White faced whistling duck. I’m not even gonna say why. You all know why.
- Grey Crowned Crane. I think this is the next “African mixed habitat bird” I want, and it also has the benefit of working in a tropical aviary.
- Brown Pelican. I want to give a lot of focus on the Americas with these last birds, considering we don’t have any. It’s a colorful animal, and can get interspecies bonuses with the California sea lion and our next bird…..
- Roseate Spoonbill. The final Americas bird, and probably one of the more versatile birds in the game. It works in a whole bunch of places.
So 3/4 birds would be American animals, while 2/4 would be African.
Also, as much as it hurts me to say, the fulvous whistling duck may be a better option due to it having an even farther range than the WFWD. The main reason I like the WFWD is that it’s so darn cute! But I mean the FWD even makes it to India, and the Caribbean. Kind of hard to beat. Whistling ducks are really op options for animals.
Likewise, I really, really, really want a sea bird. Puffins also have a massive range.
So here would be my “updated” bird list, going for birds with some of the largest ranges to cover the highest amount of continents and countries. Likewise, I’m trying to pick animals that have “relatively empty niches” in game.
- Atlantic Puffin. Canada, United States, and then pretty much most of Europe. Useful for NA players and European Players.
- Admittedly not as cute, but the fulvous whistling duck. Caribbean, tip of Florida, Central America, South America, Africa, Madagascar, and India! What a range! Also while not as cute, they are still pretty darn cute.
- Great white pelican, wouldn’t take much to twist my arm for the Dalmatian pelican. Though they share similar ranges of Europe, Africa, and into Asia.
- Finally, the only one who I would keep the same is the roseate spoonbill. Most of South America, the Caribbean, and into North America.
So while my list is subject to change as always, these are the birds I would pick to “fit the most”. In my opinion, still a good list compared to my last one. While South America does get screwed over a bit more, there is still a lot for everyone. Likewise it still fills a ton of niches that are open:
- Not flamingo wading bird, and also a bird for the Caribbean and tropical South America. Roseate spoonbill covers this.
- Arctic bird and non-penguin sea bird, the puffins got this.
- Pelican, guess who got this covered?
- Another waterfowl, and one that covers a massive amount of countries, also works in a tropical house. The fulvous whistling duck. (Still not as cute plumage as my baby, but I can’t deny that range is beautiful!)
