Gosh that MooDeng post has gotten more love on FB than anything else PZ has ever posted. Someone give that CM a raise.
Lorises are great! They're a favorite of mine as well, but unfortunately I think the way the more requested, well-known species (slow lorises) move a bit too slow for the game while the slender lorises are on the "much smaller" tip. I guess they could slot them in as an exhibit species but... Walk-through doesn't make sense and they've kinda refused mammals in the other ones.I know it's probably not relevant to this pack but I feel like we don't talk about lorises enough. Imo it's more important to have than the sifaka. We already have three lemurs. Any loris is a zoo staple for me and no nocturnal house feels complete without them. They're one of my favourites to find because you usually have to peer for a long while to spot them, and when you do its so rewarding. Their movements are so funny. I have a childhood friend who I enjoyed watching them with at Shepreth once and ever since we sometimes do this freaky loris crawl movement handshake thing and it cracks us up every time. 20 year old jokes are the best jokes amiright?
Plus zoos are essential for their conservation. London Zoo labels them as an EDGE species: Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered. I was so surprised they didn't come with the Twilight Pack and I've since been hoping for a nocturnal follow up, but that seems unlikely now. So I hope they do get a slot in the fabled Zookeeper Collection or whatever pack, if and when it comes.
Yeah, that post was a smart move on their part. Now, if only they would capitalize on that algorithm priming/interaction and post something more people would see that we're all waiting for...Gosh that MooDeng post has gotten more love on FB than anything else PZ has ever posted. Good point, they've kind of hoisted themselves by their own petards there haven't they?! You can't really have a walkthrough with a venomous mammal can you (ahem, platypus, ahem). There is a good mod based on the koala for them, you just have to build small for them so they stay in the trees. I'll still hold on to hope for them until the bitter end. Slow mo love for those critters.I guess they could slot them in as an exhibit species but... Walk-through doesn't make sense and they've kinda refused mammals in the other ones.
Let's hope your rightI think an announcement trailer dropping on World Animal Day (October 4th) is in the cards

WEs don't need to be walkthrough. You can set them up where guests can't go inside, just need a little elbow grease and ingenuity. I don't often make bats WEs because I've personally never been in one (and bats smell)Good point, they've kind of hoisted themselves by their own petards there haven't they?! Yeah, but we're talking about a game where zookeepers can enter Willy Nilly in a lion habitat, where they can safely stroll into a cassowary habitat, and where guests run away from tiny animals that otherwise won't hurt them if they aren't close.Guests don't need to enter the exhibit, but fundamentally I would expect a candidate wakthrough species needs to be safe enough where they can have guests enter the exhibit.
Honestly I wouldn't be fully against it either. I just think Frontier wants to play it safe with what animals are "guest-friendly" in terms of exhibit animals. They'd be an excellent exhibit animal for a dedicated Primates Pack! (though I suspect that's not going to happen until PZ2)Yeah, but we're talking about a game where zookeepers can enter Willy Nilly in a lion habitat, where they can safely stroll into a cassowary habitat, and where guests run away from tiny animals that otherwise won't hurt them if they aren't close.
There's always gonna be some fantasy in the game, so I don't think have a slow loris being in the WE is that bad
Yeah at Adelaide Zoo I tend to see them out only once per visit, often only briefly, and sometimes not at all. In the greater Adelaide area it’s easier to see them at Monarto and Cleland because they’ve got more than them (Adelaide Zoo has one devil, currently a female named Adelie, while Monarto has more than 31 - though most of those are backstage and not in the same on-display enclosure haha) and, if they’re not active at other times, both zoos have a Tasmanian devil keeper talk and feed where they’re guaranteed to be out.Devils really isn't surprising, it's pretty rare to see them outside or active in general.
There’s actually two! Another’s mixed in with the koalas and long-nosed potoroos. There's only one Echidna at Adelaide, it paces around in the walkthrough rainforest Aviary, but I do like the way they waddle.
Maybe. But wait, what about the sloths? Aren't they unsafe?Honestly I wouldn't be fully against it either. I hope Frontier notices the almost 100 likes on the message asking for the emu to be walk-through.Gosh that MooDeng post has gotten more love on FB than anything else PZ has ever posted. Someone give that CM a raise.
I was going to say this too! I think the new time/day-night system they've implemented for PC2 (plus the true-dark rooms) makes potential for nocturnal houses in PZ2 much more likely...As much as id like to have lorises in the game, well more nocturnal house animals in general really, i just dont think they are in the cards for pz.
But the night lighting system in PC2, which i assume will also be in a potential PZ2 makes me hopefull that nocturnal house animals are something that Pz2 will give a little more love than Pz1 did/does. And i really hope the sequel can be more friendly to small animals in general
I was lucky enough to visit the Adelaide Zoo this summer... And after reading this, I feel super lucky to have seen the devil at that zoo! We visited that exhibit early in the AM, right when gates opened and had no luck. But on our way out the door a few hours later, we happened to stop by that area again and saw her at the little river toward the front of the habitat taking a drink! After about 30 seconds she did a walk-about of the habitat, then went right back inside.Yeah at Adelaide Zoo I tend to see them out only once per visit, often only briefly, and sometimes not at all. Maybe, there's a precedent for it though. London Zoo has them in their mixed species rainforest walkthrough. Even with their babies! There are also tamandua, a few small SA monkey species and some tortoises in there. One of the best newish features at ZSL.Maybe. But wait, what about the sloths? Aren't they unsafe?
From what I've heard, they aren't the best options for guests to get up to
I should mention there are always a few very good animal educators in there keeping guests under control and volumes low (and picking up the tamandua every time she goes for the door lol, she feisty)Maybe, there's a precedent for it though. I bet when PZ started they had no idea it was going to be so popular, nor how many hyperfixated animal nuts are out hereI was going to say this too! Beyond that, when they developed Planet Zoo, Frontier admitted that they were focused primarily on (a) larger things, and (b) outdoor building. They adjusted to this as best they could throughout PZ's development (e.g., habitat animals have gotten smaller; putting slower animals in as WTE) so it's obvious they're paying attention but things like lighting, day-night cycles, and such are probably trickier to change mid-development than to just implement them from the start.
So yeah, fingers-crossed for application of that in a PZ sequel!

It was a really fun, unique moment.
