Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Yeah faster shield generation, I think especially if you are making effective use of cover (is that the "combat walls" you mention?). But you don't shoot at the engineer
The "combat walls" we are talking about aren't physical walls.
It is a, well, in lack of a better word, psychological wall for people who haven't played first person shooters and are thus glorified cannon fodder in ground combat situations.

I decided that the reason I pledged to Z. Torvald is because she looks quite like Mrs. Hollyrood should (from Passin' Through).

However, the wall metaphor for the hangup was actually making a real point: Yes, the answer is yes what you had asked about - Increased shield regen can help. Especially if you are able to keep the shields up as much of the time as possible (possibly by ducking for cover). Take shelter dear CMDR McWolf!

Well I played some Wolfenstein 3d in the 90s, and James Bond Goldeneye on a roommate's N64 with some frequency. So you could observe that despite FPS experience, I was still cannon fodder anyways. But a CMDR can go out there and achieved ANYWAY anyways!

Yet, all Mr. Passin' does is larceny and Imperial experimental hobnobbing. Only sometimes, he had to shoot some poor buggers from interfering with his innocently taking down their alarms and inject malware. And sometimes I went to jail. A simple Imperial maintenance man am I, is all.

Just asked on the relevant thread for some clarity, but it looks like our lovely voices on Elite Observatory are disappearing.

Understandable but disappointing nonetheless.
I'm impressed that the dev was bearing that cost himself.

I've only used the Windows TTS in Observatory, but it's not very realistic. I use OpenAI's TTS services when I run COVAS: Next, but it's quite expensive so I tend not to use it often.

Maybe the dev can provide options for users to pay for their own TTS endpoints.

It is Hero Ferrari (the one between Domino and Jude) that has the 10 CZ wall in front of their shop...

Oh yes, but for some reason I was sure that you had to engage with that engineer first to unlock the others. Turns out you can get things by alternative routes. Honestly, idk if I was just dumb and didn't read it properly when Odyssey launched or it was changed later. Either way, happy surprise and something new to do in the future 😹 I may well see when there's a carrier to Colonia, since that seems like the outright fastest way to get the suit enhancements that will actually matter to me.

In other news, I actually pledged to a power! And surprised myself a lil. I worked for Aisling Duval a while ago, and have a few prismatic shields in storage, and was very tempted to resume that... but I guess it's time for a change. To some degree because I can see flocks of people going for AD and I kind of enjoy an underdog - as long as it's not so under that it just gets beaten to a pulp. I like Nakato's ethos, the discord seems to be growing steadily, and she's actually got a solid number of fortified systems and I think she might explode on the galaxy map over the next few weeks. This will be an interesting adventure.

Also, lime green is one of my favourite colours. In moderation. I'm not really sure if it will look good splattered across the hull of a clipper, but there is only one way to find out!

Down side, I guess I will actually have to get a few bounty vouchers sorted for the weekly tasks. That's ok. I'm rusty, but ship-to-ship combat isn't alien to me like the FPS gameplay is. I have an FDL in storage that I can ship over and do something with.

Finished the 5x powerplay activities to get started with merits.

Turned out the old FDL, Dragon Lance, was only half-way engineered, so beefed her up as much as possible and absolutely smashed the puny pirates hanging around this RES.

Not because I flew well, but because they just weren't very good and the bounty requirement is quite small. I've watched numerous guides on staying behind your enemy, it just never works and I end up jousting them.

With that sorted, I figured it might be time to refresh my old workhorse, the Argent One python and turn her into an all-rounder PP2 mission runner; which largely means she doesn't need much more than 100-120t of cargo, and should be able to take a punch. She was already pretty sturdy, but had a number of 2-3* engineered modules which I set about bringing up to 5*.

Passed through the bizzare Morten-Marte system on my way to Jameson Memorial to pick up a bigger FSD booster. It is stuffed with signal sources and filled my capacity for a couple of g5 materials. I really need to down-trade those to like... 20 in each bin.

Also yes, it was quite warm in the shot above.

The next source genuinely felt like a place ships come to die. Almost spooky.

Anyway, with a class 5 FSD booster, the Argent One makes just over 40ly unburdened, carries up to 160t of cargo, carries 2x SRVs, and has close to 60% thermal resistance on her bi-weave shields and as such holds out quite well under fire. I think she will do nicely for running rare commodities, material gathering, and not being worried if hostiles show up.

Not that I'm not tempted by a mk2... but it seems more rigged for combat, and that's not my primary activity. If I do find myself running rares around for merits... honestly, might fit my mandalay for cargo. Reckon she'll do over 60ly fully loaded and there's not an NPC in the game can catch her.

Also, got fed up of my storage constantly being full and swept through it, selling off all the E-rated and unengineered modules that I didn't want anyway. So far I'm down to 110 😸

Yes the Python mk2 is a combat ship so more like the FdL or Mamba than its older brother.

The T8 could be an alternative to Argent One, handles very well jumps well and can carry a lot of cargo and like its older brother, the T7, is extremely unlikely to be successfully interdicted by an NPC.

There are a fair few systems like this - nothing in the system but HGEs. LP 413-18 is another.

With the increased materials rewards for missions, it makes engineering a breeze.

I have been considering it, but we're so close to the public release I'm prepared to just wait vs stump up the arx. I already dumped money into thruster trails, I don't need to get sillier 😹

It really does. I went to a trader and reduced my manufactured g5s down to about 30 per row, spreading them out. Feels like I have a solid number of everything now 😸

Although I am feeling a bit short of encoded... maybe time to make the pilgrimage around the popular crash sites.

Well, didn't get much done today. Yes, it's my week off work, but also yes, I committed to renovating my kitchen.

Good news, I got one of the work surfaces stripped and sanded and ready for some wood dye and oil.

Bad news, FDev turned off rare goods for merits while I have like 70t in my cargo hold and was wanting to hand them in.

Parked up in the most distant reinforcement system, logging off. Maybe there will be a fix by the time I get back online tomorrow 😹

If not, oh well, time to do alternative actions. My cutter is kitted out for mining after all, and that doesn't seem to be on pause. And I have spent quite a lot of credits of late, it is probably a good time to earn a few. Or I can get some allies around NK's space, both are good choices.

Yeah, they halted the inclusion of selling rare wares in the merit system because people would burn credits by buying them next door to the system they were needed.
Which isn't just bad for their wallets, but also bad for the economy.
People still struggle to be able to see the bigger picture, even if it is just one size bigger than the one they're in.
