Huge exaggeration, in reality unless your lucky to have a Plat or LTD overlap in your powers territory you will be lucky to hit 10K.
Mining also works as an Undermining action, so if you can find a suitable overlap in someone else's territory that's fine, it won't be in their territory for long.

How to find where CZs of my Power are?
CZs show up in Contested Acquisition systems - the map symbol is a double white circle with tiny crossed swords on top.

Look for them where your space is near an opponent's but not completely built up to it.

(Or make your own by undermining an enemy border system that is already close to your space, then trying to acquire it the following week)

Maybe it is depending on the power, but it's really not a huge exaggertation. I took extensive notes on my merit earnings, and on my last mining trip I filled my 112t Mandalay with Monazite in a little over an hour from undocking to sale, and I sold those 112t for a profit of 618k/t or 68 MCr, and earned 50k merits or 0.73 merits per 1000Cr profit for it.

I dont disageree but which system are you mining in and which station? Even with a boom station (Namnetes system) im getting nowhere near that either doing LTDs or a single Plat spot that doesn't actually have anu Plat so i just rake in Osmium.

It's truly hard to balance anything for players who cannot even play 1 hour a week.
I have times in my life like this (there's a couple of other regular forum commenters who do too, we should probably start a thread...), and you absolutely can play this like a casual game if you want, it's just about which gameloops you choose.

There are problems with it, sure, but they're all designed-in problems that have been there since way before fold-down. Nothing to do with PP 2.0. And PP 2.0 doesn't decay the way PP 1.0 did, so it's actually better in this regard.

Last summer I dealt with it by going into the black and just exploring a couple of systems when I got a chance. There was a painful start getting the FSD engineered but actually that's another example, you don't need 70ly to go exploring, and I still don't have 70ly because I still haven't faffed about with Guardian gear.

In short, 90% of the complaints you see here are framed by someone deciding they must be in the top 1% of <gameloop goes here> and it's the game design getting in the way somehow, and 99% of those people are already blessed with time and ARX and then just come here and complain.

1.2 mio merrits in one week. Excessively used action disabled. What was it for now?
I won't do it anymore. :) I was already the best. Now it's up to others... You were already in the top10 and that's good. Keep working for the good of Utopia and everything will work out!
For those trying to explain... I also work at work and still have time to create games (3D modeling and graphics), in addition to playing Elite. And yes, I worked a lot in Elite this week. :) I just like being in this game! There are very few games of this class!
For developers:
A mechanism should be introduced to decrease the merit score (and accordingly decrease the rank and privileges), equal to the cost of merits for uncompleted weekly tasks! ;) This will contribute to the life of PP2.

I got more or less the same results in all the systems I mined in. Monazite seems to be the most profitable in Kaine space, so I took the time to look on Inara for systems and stations with a decent price and a good demand that belonged to Kaine. All systems I mined in were fortifying systems in boom, and over the mining sessions I did I got 347k, 720k, 706k and 618k per tonne for it. merits per 1000Cr profit ranged from 0.68 to 0.75 but not directly linked to the profit, so there must be a few more factors at play. But on average the merit rate is more than good if you mine for Kaine. Don't know if it's different with other powers.

One of my friends was consistently making 50k per 160t core mining run. It was about 6 to 8 ranks' worth of progression every hour or two.

The hard part is to find a place where the conditions are optimal (price, demand, idk what exactly). Also, some powers give a mining bonus afaik, that might help, too.

I was doing power CZs instead. That was pretty close to 20 to 30K per hour. Maybe it could have been more, but I was using a pacifier Python2 which can kill NPCs very quickly but the ammo pool is limited, so I had to restock quite often. Anyway I started the week on rank 14 and finished it on rank 50, and it took me only a grand total of 3 playing sessions.

I'm pledged to Archer and I found an Archer vs Mahon contested system which also spawned Mahon vs Winter power CZs for some reason I don't fully understand. It was even better to use these Archer-unrelated CZs because I could shoot at both sides and there were 8 spec ops NPCs to shoot at, which meant ~5000 merits at the beginning of each CZ instance.

I disagree. This is blatant disregard for casual playing commanders that were unable to to get level 100+ in the first week. Those commanders keep the level status while the rest of us suffer and scrape by on 20 merits for a ship scan.

You're lucky - I get 12 merits per scan. 20 merits is a bonus for specific Powers only.

I tried power CZs, they are fun, but sadly there were none to be found in and near Kaine space, mostly because the "Kaine community" goes all cushy with Mahon, so no conflicts arise. I didn't check this week.

Anyway, they are fun and make decent merits, but you need a proper murder boat to be efficient.

You're in the wrong neck of the woods. Around Leesti it's Mahon vs Kaine fights all the way. The Kaine supporters have already successfully undermined one system and are in the process of doing the same for 3-5 others. And I'm only monitoring 10-15 systems at the most.

Well last week there were no contested systems at all, the week before there was one single one. I didn't check this week after the tick.

This was Mahon territory just a week ago, now they're trying to take it back. The systems 10-15 ly from Leesti are in great flux right now.

But does that system spawn power CZs? It may well be that I don't understand the system right now, but I thought power CZs spawn in contested systems. Although it may also well be that the system isn't working as intended, because the Galmap filter for contested doesn't show me ANY systems right now, for all the powers...

Incidentally, the Inara power pages show no contested systems for any power either... is this just bugged?
