DLC 19 Speculation

Themes that convinced some higher ups to keep things going.
To be fair, I think you got it the other way around. I don't think the higher-ups needed convincing; if anything I'm pretty sure they made the decision to keep going forward in the first place.

Planet Coaster 2 launched to an incredibly rocky start and Planet Zoo seems to be the obvious safe bet for them to compensate the losses, I don't think there was much convincing needed given Frontier's situation.

But I wouldn't be surprised if we got handful of flyers as a hint for PZ2 (and for feedback) like JW got Pteranodon
This community has the tendency to interpret all kinds of things as hints for something which never come to fruition; because in reality it never was a hint to begin with because that's generally not how things go. I think the only reason the Pteranodon got added to JWE is because it was part of 3/4 movies that were released by that time. Not as a hint or way to gather feedback.

What is everyone's dream Neotropics Animal Pack?
I'd like:
  • Ocelot
  • Bush Dog
  • Patagonian Mara
  • Black Howler Monkey
  • Roseate Spoonbill
  • Geoffroy's Spider Monkey
  • White-nosed Coati
It has three carnivorans, though... The Greater Rhea would be anniversary animal though.
Coati
Rhea
Mara
Howler Monkey or spider monkey
Squirrel Monkey
Ocelot/ tamandua
Spoonbill/ flamingo

If I say this roster enough hopefully it’ll happen 😂

To be honest I haven't played either of JW games so I'm not completely familiar with chronology.

I know that the first game ended with Pteranodon in DLC and that the second one started with flying reptiles from the get go. It's logical to me that there was connection there.

But sure, at the end of the day, I am basing this on my own assumptions

Here is the number of times that made me think flying birds (in some shape or form) would come to the game, and yeah this was my ability to interpret things to fit my narrative lmao:
  1. JWE1 ended with pteranodons
  2. Mesh exists
  3. We got eggs once
  4. Deep diving was added (maybe we could get other complex animations!)
  5. The WTE was added
  6. Gibbons were added with unique animations to enrichment items (maybe perching and nest boxes are next)
  7. The special stream for the Oceania pack (this animal is a pollinator, I still find this one funny haha)
  8. Anytime in the past Frontier said they are adding anything long requested, lmao, lol even
In hindsight it’s honestly kind of funny. There was a 2-3 year long period I was convinced flying birds were coming. They were definitely “fun” times.

I was talking about the movies haha, not the games.

Of course there is a connection, but the connection is merely the movies featuring aviaries and flying reptiles. Sometimes it's just not that deep 😅

Don't forget the time we thought birds were coming because they added eggs. Or because they added mesh pieces. 😂 Good times.

Maybe that's why we haven't received more mesh pieces after the Africa pack. Frontier doesn't want to make us think again birds are coming if they add more mesh pieces. So here we are without triangular mesh pieces or gridded mesh pieces for our cats and monkeys 😭

Honestly my theory: they just haven’t thought about it and there hasn’t been much of a community uproar for it. Also if I’m being honest Frontier took years to finally give us some generic zoo props in the Conservation Pack. Mesh pieces are up there with educational themed props, essential in real zoos, not so much on Frontiers radar.

And yet somehow we still all struggled with deciphering it last time lol
Thing is we didnt almost everyone was side zookeeper except the few people who kept trying to force a highlands pack.
On top of that combined with the dictionary leak we literally had the whole pack minus the bear predicted when the key art released. Funnily enough the dictionary list was so bad and random alot of people assumed it couldnt be the pack.

Let's make a simple guess. In the new DLC, what do you think are the probabilities of cats, bears, dogs and monkeys appearing?
Well, if it's South America, the ocelot will be there. If it's North America, I dont see much hope for the bobcat. If it's world wide or biome, I would say 60%. Anyways, for me, as long as it has a cat, they can take my money. I really hope we get a dog. I would love the coyote, but I need the egyptian wolf or the jackal, at least. And if we get the coyote, I doubt we will get those, so I'm hoping we get a fox or the bush dog instead. idc about monkeys, but the community loves them, so I think they are the most likely. The bear only if its a North America or forest pack.

The eggs were the only time I was completely sold that birds and egg laying was coming.

What is everyone's dream Neotropics Animal Pack?
I think the one everyone's kind of expecting (tamarin/squirrel monkey, spider/howler monkey, coati, mara, rhea, spoonbill/ibis, and ocelot/oddball) would be a great way to go. If we're talking about unrealistic dreams, there are well over 30 neotropical animals I'd gladly pay $1.50 or more to have in PZ.

For habitat animals, the biggest gap I see in the neotropical roster is small monkeys, especially tamarins. They have more than 2000 combined holdings on Zooteirliste, are adorable, and are great conservation species. The golden lion tamarin is my favorite zoo animal, period, but the cotton top and emperor tamarin would be great to have as well if they can manage to add a few at a time. There are even more of that family that I'd be willing to pay for or at least install mods to obtain. Howler monkeys and spider monkeys are also pretty common; the unique/scary vocalizations and especially the brachiating would also be very interesting to see in PZ. If neither is possible, a tufted capuchin would be way better than nothing. Adorable squirrel monkeys and sakis are also common in zoos, and some oddballs like uakaris and sakis would be nice to have. Many zoos near me keep South American monkeys, and I would like to see at least a few more in PZ.

South American birds are also pretty common. Macaws are a favorite candidate for inclusion, as are toucans. I've seen both fairly often. Hoatzins aren't kept in zoos, but they are my favorite flying birds. I've also seen many mixed wetlands habitats featuring South American birds, especially American flamingos, scarlet ibises, spoonbills, white faced whistling ducks, and occasionally curassows. The versitility of an ibis rig and the wide range of the duck make them my favorite options for that zoo niche. Such enclosures can also feature sloths, which we already have, as well as large turtles like the Arrau, tamarins, Amazon river giant fish, and agoutis.

I've also seen many non-primate climbers. The South American coati is the community favorite, and they are very common in zoos. They would be cute and fun to watch. I also really like margays for their giant eyes and educational value as hunters of my beloved tamarins. The ocelot is preferred and more common in zoos for that small cat clade, and I'd be about as happy with it. I personally like tamanduas at least as much as coatis, and Brazilian porcupines are pretty cute.

Non-tropical South America, especially Patagonia, also needs some love. The rhea and mara are super requested to fill that niche. Burrowing owls and Andean condors would be good if we get flying birds, and a tegu would be cool if it came as a habitat animal.

Beyond that, the pudu and lowland tapir wouldn't be too bad for ungulates, but I'm mostly watching for monkeys and birds. Bush dogs are a pretty good option for an oddball canid, and there are plenty of unpopular not-foxes, some of which I might install mods for. The Carribean and coasts have some fantastic options, including brown pelicans, sea turtles, manatees, American flamingos, and rockhopper penguins. I wish we could get them all.

If you had to make a pack of only animals you have seen in the wild what would be in it.
Away from the computer as usual for the weekend, catching up on lists and whatnot. Let's see...for this, most of this will be Southeastern America, but I have lived in other parts of the country as well, including Hawaii as my dad was military.

Nene Goose - we'll start with Hawaii why not.
Coyote - Southeastern US/midwest
Wild Turkey - Southeastern US
Opossum - Southeastern US
Eastern Cottontail Rabbit - Southeastern US
American Black Bear - Southeastern US (from a VERY long distance)
North American River Otter Southeastern US (specifically Florida in this case

I see Whitetail Deer quite often (more than any of these to be honest) but I refuse to add them to any pack ideas. They're beautiful creatures in real life, but boring to me for zoo inclusions.

I really hope its not the key art but a much more thought out teaser the key art ultimately is too easy for speculation we know what the animals are almost instantly and its only the pack theme we are left guessing.
I would like to see a teaser that actually teases something a screenshot from a zoo that has a few habitats visible at most 1 clear animal and a few hints like a pool or water an aviary, some new decorations or partially hidden animals something where we wont know for sure until it actually releases.
I'm with you! I'd definitely enjoy a teaser that's a little more "involved." But I think teasing the key art again (like last time) or a single animal (like the peccary) is much more likely. Honestly, I think my "ideal" teaser at this point would be something done via socials ahead of the Unlocked that is similar to what happened ahead of the South America pack reveal. A thematic, story-driven teaser that emulates the "special" livestreams through a series of screenshots teasing critters with hints in the captions.

I remember thinking it was a Zookeeper pack because of the keepers in the background and people telling me I was wrong!
I never really committed to one theme over another but... The keepers are really the only thing that stuck out to me as "zookeeper"-y in that pack. They stuck out like a sore thumb! I'd argue, from a theming perspective, it was one of the more perplexing and "non-committal" bits of key art and that the art doesn't fully align with the theme. Highlands really would have made much more sense based on the art alone.

Hopefully the next one isn't as all over the place if that's how they opt to hint/tease. Haha.

Don't forget the time we thought birds were coming because they added eggs. Or because they added mesh pieces. 😂 Good times.
I'll take it a step further and suggest that the first round of "OMG birds!" came with the South American pack teaser wherein they mentioned hearing birds in the distance... But the eggs were the one that really got my brain turning for the first time.

My pack would look pretty similar to yours, TBH, so I won't bother reposting. Hah! Except that I'd swap out the spider monkey for the golden lion tamarin or the tamandua.

I guess to expand on this further, why add flying birds now 6 years into development? If the DLCs are selling well enough without birds I would be shocked to see Frontier flip the script.

Maybe they want to boost PZ sales due to PC2? Even then regular DLCs sell fine and then you got to take development into cost.

I mean if we get flying birds, or even a good bird variety in the WTE I wouldn’t complain. I just think there is a super low chance of this happening.
It's a good point, but something like flying birds might have the ability to bring back people that checked out years ago, which could be valuable, in the sense that they might purchase other stuff they missed.

Looking at the finales for JWE1 & JWE2, both have that quality of bringing people back, JWE2 less so. PC1's finale could be argued to be along similar intent, being a Media tie in, like their first DLCs.

Don't forget the time we thought birds were coming because they added eggs. Or because they added mesh pieces. 😂 Good times.
Or because they added bats.
Zhe mesh pieces didn't fool me, but the eggs and the bats... I mean, if I was hyped about flying birds, it would have been on the edge of cruel. THOSE were hints I blame no one to jump on. But there were countless other ones that were used at "hints" that equaled the german saying of "having a bird" - being out of their minds.

Two monkeys + a coati in the next DLC, mark my words. And an overhaul of climbing mechanics / improvements to animations is the explanation for the 6 month wait.

That's my prediction and when I'm wrong, I'm gonna be pretty mad about it. No more miss nice monkey guy.
I really doubt they overhaul climbing, as much as I would love it to happen. The reason for the 6 month wait is them being understaffed and people probably even hopping around between converting console DLCs and making the new DLC for PZ and - who knows - even helping out rescuing PC2.
I am hopelful about the Coati... and if they never add a squirrel monkey I will never understand.

Anyway, didn't follow the last X pages, where do we stand now? Sounds like some are assuming we might get more than 1 DLC? I would have called everyone delusional for thinking that a few month prior, but now I actually wouldn't be completely surprised if they would do sooomething to keep things going and "fund" PC2 that way.

Aside from the obvious lack of flying birds in the game, I think we're also lacking non-flying birds and a pack focused on them could satisfy a lot of players with some really cool additions. Here are a proposal with a DLC on the model of the Zookeeper Pack (7 new species and different assets), species including 4 reskins used a similar rig animations (animals with a *R ).

BIG BIRDS PACK
7 new species + 95+ stunning scenery (Assets for big aviaries like marquees, nests...)
Update : Brooding behavior for all the new species and add for : Ostrich, Swan, Casoar, Flamingos, Crane, Kiwi, Chicken, Emu. (Not for pingouins)
Functioning : When the female is expecting a baby, a nest appears in the enclosure and the woman remains there during the brooding period. The nests look different depending on the species.

  • Secretary Bird (WISHLIST N°3 • AFRICA)
  • Great White Pelican (WISHLIST N°4 • EUROPE / ASIA / AFRICA)
  • Grey Crowned Crane (WISHLIST N°5 • AFRICA) *R
  • Rhea (WISHLIST N°6 • SOUTH AMERICA) *R
  • Southern Rockhopper (WISHLIST N°9 • ANTARCTICA) *R
  • Southern/Abyssian Ground Hornbill (WISHLIST N°15 • AFRICA)
  • American Flamingo (WISHLIST N°12 • AMERICA) *R

What do you think of this general idea?
