DLC 19 Speculation

IDK, the longer the game goes on the less I care about all those things and the more I just care about the game itself and what it has to offer.

Don't get me wrong, I loved all the special live streams and the cool ways of teasing a DLC, but at the end of the day I value all the pieces from for instance the South America Pack much more than I'll ever value how it was teased through social media, no matter how cool it was. That doesn't mean that I disliked it and that I don't think it would be better if we at least moved a bit more into that direction again, because the last stream wasn't anything to write home about; but I'm not feeling sad or disrespected either.
Sad or disrespected might be the wrong words to describe my feelings about it. But I noticed that I can still remember the good feelings I had when packs where announced that had those special live streams. The excitement with the eurasia pack, the speculation with the ocieania, I actually also still sometimes smile when I remember Tims slip up with the red river hog the moment I click on them in game. Are these memories neccessary for me to enjoy the content? Of course not. But they made me grow fonder of the game in general, because I could expirience the love that was put into it. I can not say the same thing for Planet Coaster 2, so I am far less forgiving about the state the game is in, far less forgiving about bugs and litttle annoyances here and there, which makes me a customer that is far more on edge than before. And that is neither a win for Frontier, not for me.

With the form of the DLCs I'm a bit torn. You mentioned in previous years that we get far more content with the current DLC format and that less is hidden behind a paywall and I agree. I learned to love the current format because of your well rounded facts about it. At the same time I can see how game development is limited when the cash flow is smaller per sale. Meaning I believe we would have had a far better chance of seeing bigger features like animals interacting more with their offspring (carrying them, nursing them etc) when we had a dedicated bigger Expansion packs to - say - small monkeys.
There would have been more funs to make a great aviary feature and tons of flying birds if we had a 40 Pound DLC with 50 animals (most of them reskins).
(I don't think a sole monkey or bird dlc would sell well, but this was just for the sake of explaining my point.).

So for the sake of bigger leaps in the development of the base game down the line, I love the collectable dlcs we have now and would still be fully supportive of bigger Expansion packs occassionally in addition.

Honestly I was gonna make an “animals I have seen” pack, but then I remembered it would have been filled with birds. Especially the waterfowl I have seen. Like that’s ever gonna happen.

If you had to make a pack of only animals you have seen in the wild what would be in it.
Most of my exciting stuff has already been added but I would 100% pay for:
  1. Elk/wapiti or black-tailed deer
  2. American black bear
  3. Island/American gray fox (with climbing!) or coyote
  4. California quail (or wild turkey since quail are so small)
  5. Black-tailed jackrabbit
  6. Virginia opossum (technically introduced in my area though)
  7. House pick from the water-loving crowd:
    1. Sea otter
    2. Green sea turtle
    3. Great blue heron or brown pelican
    4. Mallard
    5. American coot
  8. Walkthrough exhibit: California leaf-nosed or Mexican free-tailed bat (hard to identify bats at a distance)
    1. Alternative exhibits: Pacific banana slug or rough-skinned newt

Well if its final I want this
1) Walrus
2) Musk Ox
3) Pere David Deer
4) Golden snub nose money
5) American Black Bear
6) Mountain Goat
7)Gaur
8) Nigail

ahhh nvm there are too many still need at least two pack this year to conclude. LOL

To limit myself even further for ✨ funsies✨, here's a pack of animals made up entirely of species I've seen within an hour of my current college campus:

Birb's Midwest American College Animal Pack (these animals actually all attend the school with me 100% real trust me besties)
1. Wood Duck YEAHHH BAYBEEE 💅
2. American Coot
3. Canada Goose
4. North American Ruddy Duck
5. Virginia Opossum
6. Eastern Cottontail
7. North American River Otter
Bonus exhibit animal is my boyfriend's bearded dragon who is totally native to the area and definitely wild.

We get American black bear and wapiti around here too, but I have yet to see them and I'd prefer stuffing this pack with birds even if I had.

I guess I could also put whitetail deer since the pack is very waterfowl heavy and I've seen them plenty but I just... don't really want to.

The only pieces of scenery are these massive silly bird statues we have all around this unserious ass state. The species aren't in the pack because I haven't seen them (among other reasons), they're just there to tease you lol. Think of it like the tamandua bench in the SA pack or the dromedary sign in Africa pack before we actually got that guy. Except these aren't mammals, so our chances of ever getting them would be significantly less even in this reality lol.

As for animals I've seen in the wild elsewhere, the only two I can think of that wouldn't be loaded with non-habitat birds:

Kenya Pack:
1. Grey Crowned Crane
2. African Sacred Ibis
3. Helmeted Guineafowl
4. Nile Crocodile
5. Bat Eared Fox
6. Vervet Monkey
7. Waterbuck
8. (E) Red-legged Millipede

Florida Pack:
1. Sandhill Crane
2. Roseate Spoonbill
3. American White Ibis
4. Brown Pelican
5. (E) Green Anole
And there's a bunch of manatee scenery with no manatees lol. The free update makes the green iguana a habitat animal just so it can roam around as an invasive species in your Floridian zoos lol.

I'm aware there's absolutely no precedent of Frontier doing this beforehand, but since we know now that PC2 is set to receive Western-themed scenery in their next update, it might be neat if PZ's next DLC kind of followed the same theme, with something like a...

Southwestern Animal Pack?
  • Desert bighorn sheep
  • Coyote
  • American black bear
  • Ocelot
  • White-nose coati
  • Black-tailed jackrabbit
  • Greater roadrunner
  • Western American scenery pieces
Tried to keep it semi-realistic; only one ground-dwelling bird, presumably quite a few reused rigs, and bare minimum South American reps :p
i kinda want a pack with west theme with native america pieces and wild west so since people are saying there is one for pc2 maybe they will use some things for pz, im just not sure about the animals since we do need more south america but i would love the ocelot (we can sneak him in it) the mustang a jackrabbit, the black bear....

Well after reading 5 pages of homework (forums) I've finally caught up and things haven't really changed lol. I am excited for the news at the end of this month, I now won't have to worry about missing it. Better be the actual reveal though because if they build up a month of hype just to show the splash art and say another 2 weeks of waiting I'll be disappointed. Not much to speculate on since Frontier seems to be all over the place. I've already guessed either South America 2, Adaptations, or my most confident, Goodwins Animal Pack.

Not sure if it was intentional or not but nothing about that stream seemed designed to "build hype" for Planet Zoo. It was literally him rushing through a 10 second schpiel about how PC players will get news next month. And it was probably done just to head-off questions about it (however poorly).

I don't see any reason why they would do anything differently than last time. Because the timing between that stream and the likely release date for the DLC is the same (~2.5 weeks). Hoping for more but not expecting anything other than the key art. But, TBH, the key art sparked some pretty lively debate/speculation last time!

Everybody always says they're burned out on speculation, don't want to do it, etc. But the second we get a tiny nugget of info everybody wakes right up! 😄

I really hope its not the key art but a much more thought out teaser the key art ultimately is too easy for speculation we know what the animals are almost instantly and its only the pack theme we are left guessing.
I would like to see a teaser that actually teases something a screenshot from a zoo that has a few habitats visible at most 1 clear animal and a few hints like a pool or water an aviary, some new decorations or partially hidden animals something where we wont know for sure until it actually releases.

I think they'd probably try to distance the comparison between a free update theme and a paid DLC theme when they're this close together, it'd get scrutiny on the scenery.

To be fair, the theme could be obvious this time, so they might not go for the key art.

I suspect the alternative is a promotional animal screenshot or two, which might have scenery in the background.

Let's make a simple guess. In the new DLC, what do you think are the probabilities of cats, bears, dogs and monkeys appearing?
Feels like a Cat and/or Dog is guaranteed. Bears and Monkeys seem pretty low likelihood.
