Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Wow, that CG really kicked up the price! Won't last though, but some good cash. Most I saw when I was mining was about 245k on a couple carriers.

But I don't carry any cargo anymore, so pirates aren't an issue. I prefer not getting shot at!
The price for a required commodity at a CG station is usually well above normal prices often enough so that you see players advocating selling to the CG station to take advantage of the price but not signing up to the CG so the sale isn’t counted and the CG lasts longer so they can keep getting the high prices.

That's just freaky.

I can't remember coming across this before, Bacterium Volu, 7.74 M smackers.

Been a bit out of game tbh, busy finishing and polishing this video, which is my entry in a current running JustAbout competition - hope u enjoy …and please give it a like if you do :)

I watched, and gave it a like.

But if you want my honest reaction, I didn't really enjoy it. The first part made me feel a bit ill, with the way the picture kept fading out and in and out again. There was some cool stuff in the middle, inside the station, but then it started spinning in a weird way and again it sort of bugged me, which I found odd because I don't normally get motion sickness.

I also hated the music. :p

It looked professional, though. It just wasn't to my taste.

Thanks for the vote of support, even if it wasn’t your cup of tea as such ;p

LOL, I'd loved to seen that! I've wondered how it would look from the surface of a planet when a ship came screaming in and hit the planet like a meteor.

I use a 3D Shield Generator/Grade 5, Enhanced Low Power/Stripped Down, and one OD Shield Booster Grade 3 Heavy Duty/Super Capacitors. I've only got to Grade 1 Armour, Heavy Duty/ Deep Plating. I don't have discovery of the other main engineers yet, some I likely won't, so I've engineered about all I can for now.

And yes, Guardian FSD Booster, with a 5A FSD (SCO) Grade 5 (Increased Range/Mass Manager), Sensors (Lightweight) and Power Dist (Engine Focused/Super Conduits) all Grade 5. Thrusters Grade 3 (Dirty/Drive Distributors).

I have two other Shield Boosters Grade 1 and 2, but decided to use one for now for weight reasons.

I'm quite happy with it.
Oh, we're getting the exact same 78Ly range even though we have different builds. For some reason I thought you said 82Ly.

I've not obliterated a ship by forgetting to check a planet's gravity but I've come scarily close. I check maybe 80% of the time these days since I've still not fully learned my lesson. The shields are mostly for that kind of scenario so I won't buy my first booster.

That's an interesting way of looking at it. If you're a regular miner who can hit that 75% in a quick session, there's probably no need to sign up until maybe the day before the CG ends.
After saying I wasn't interested in colonisation, I am now looking into it :D Hypocrite much, Tyres?

I have no idea what I'm doing at present, other than visiting a station with a contact and then choosing a system.

I love going into situations with my eyes wide shut.
I've been slightly intrigued but have liked posts both pro and anti since I get the sentiment.

Your second post makes me wonder if I'm missing some extra grind though.

I completely forgot to quote this, but for some reason it made me think of 90's white glove acid house.

Hi All :)

I've been quite busy doing real life stuff at the moment, finally got round to re-felting a large shed in my garden, which is something I've been putting off until the weather was better / drier. Well, the weathers favourable so I had no excuses!...I used to enjoy doing this kind of stuff at one time, but nowadays I'm suffering quite badly with arthritis in my knees, back and shoulders, it's not too bad if I take painkillers, but oh!....after I've been up and down that ladder a few times this week and the next morning when I get up...it hurts! :D

A good Time to go out exploring in the game though. I set up a roughly 490 ly jump in the morning, close down the game after breakfast and come back to it when I take a break from the RL stuff lunch time :coffee:. I see if there's any interesting spots nearby, if so I make a note, or land down on an interesting planet, then close down the game again and come back to it in the evening...if I've got any energy left! :D

Currently parked up in the PHYLUCS systems but generally heading out to the north east on the Galactic map. I think I might make this trip a long one, or until I've used up 4500t of tritium, then I'll turn around and head back in. I've got 11000t of trite on the carrier so that's roughly going to be 40-50 jumps out and obviously the same amount used for coming back in...with a 2 or possibly 3 thousand tons in reserve to be on the safe side.
I'm already in some unexplored / unclaimed systems so if I keep going out on the same plane as I am now there's a good chance I'll see no discovered systems from now on.;)

Once this sheds finished (and a few other minor jobs) I'll be putting a bit more time towards the game.:)

Jack :)

Here's my build...Mandalay - 78.8Ly

BUBBLE BILLIONAIRE!

I just hit 1 Billion credits, all in the Bubble hunting Stratum. I think I'm ready to make a 5k run from start so I can unlock a couple more engineers.

I didn't know these stats existed, you learn something every day. My first few weeks with ED was me stumbling along, leaning what did what and then deciding to ear my fortune doing the exo-biology thing and it was quite a while before I learned about engineers regarding my ship and personal upgrades on suits & weapons
I'm just a laid back commander really enjoyng it bit by bit.

Um.

No, not for me :D

I finally found a system that looked halfway decent in which to build a small port. Then I looked at the requirements needed to get it built. Just too much hauling and scratching around for resources involved for my liking.

Glad I looked into though as it confirmed my suspicions.
For values of small port equal to outpost it isn’t too bad I have pretty much everything needed, subject to RNG, loaded on my carrier ready to go once I stop dithering.
There is plenty of time (four weeks) for the first station, it doesn’t have to be done in a few minutes unless you have hundreds of friends helping.

But how would I get everything in the game on day 1? :p
By starting at day -14,000?

update on my trip to beagle point in fc, BIG MISTAKE MADE OOOPS. the spansh route plotter estimates trit used, one system to next 75t,but thats on a basic empty carrier,my usage is 123t,never gave it a thought till to-daylooks like a non runner for my attempt, but not losing my fc and am heading back, better safe then sorry as they say.ive enough fuel to colonia and prob halve way to the bubble, but the bridge route should top me up i hope, lol silly me.07 all.

Nice. I didn't realise you were kind've early in the game. At least, I'm assuming you are based on the fact that you haven't made the 5k run yet.

It's interesting to compare builds. You've obviously gone for a more streamlined, exploration specific build whereas I can't resist adding a little more multirole capability to any ship. Hence the hardpoints and utilities. All probably to my own detriment but it's just the way I like to set up a ship. Maybe that'll change over time since even this Mandalay is probably less multirole than I would've made it in the past.

I'm not sure why it says the range is maxxed out at 70Ly. It's currently at 76Ly with more tinkering to do.

I'll have to check out that Exploration Buddy app. In fact, I just checked and it's already in my start menu. Doh!

I think that is the best way to enjoy the game. As they say, "The grind is in the mind."

o7
Indeed. I was basically out of the game and mostly here to gripe. I didn't start to enjoy it again until I deleted my account and started fresh with a slightly different perspective. Now I'm like 'YOU'RE ADDING TOO MANY SHIPS, FDEV!'. I use mats to engineer ships and then some new thing comes out which I may prefer more.

Well, yeah, effectively I'm new. I got the game in 2018, played a few days, then moved on, I was heavy into iRacing at the time. Kept an eye on space games over the years, then decided to come back this year since I already owned the game. Following the adventures of SpaceX has renewed my interest in space stuff, so here I am, for better or worse!

Yes, I built with exploration in mind; lightweight, range, and handling.

The Mandalay is so nice, I bought a second one that has a more heavy build. And it doesn't yet have the engineering this one does, 56Ly I think. I now have the cash, and materials mostly full, but I have a trip to make so it can wait.

Try using Corialis, add and removed modules and see how it affects weight. D-class is key, then down-scaling to a lower grade module for the slot. Obviously, more mass is heavier and slower. My build is based on a build I saw in a video, but I played around with it to see WHY it was longer range. Some modules don't have an efffect as much as I thought. Hardpoints add weight. All Hardpoints will get me is dead, so no hardpoints for Lefty!

My question is, is the pre-engineered better than engineering my 5A FSD (SCO) myself? Both of my Mandalays are 5A Grade 5 (Thanks Felicity!).

Yes, ED Exploration Buddy is a handy tool, as well as Spansh.

EDIT...

I looked at your build and I can see why you don't have quite the range. You are using 5D Power Plant, Distributor, and Thrusters, I use 4A PP and 4D Distributor and Thrusters, half the weight.

Also, your Sensors are 5D like mine, but you chose Wide Angle, I use Grade 5 Lightweight.

And you have a 4D Shield Generator (4T), mine is 3D Grade 5 Enhanced Low Power/Stripped Down (0.9T).

And you are carrying Hardpoints that total almost 9T, mine is zero!

Those scanners add weight too, 2.6T.

So yeah, if you want more range, drop weight! Decide if that works for you, or decide if it's a fighter or an exploration ship.
