Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Hi All :)

I closed down the game whilst I was sitting at the bar (nobody in the bar offered to by me a drink btw....miserable s$%&* :D).
When I booted up the game this evening I found I was placed just outside of the hanger lift and standing in the concourse!...did I fall asleep at the bar and was sleep walking I wonder?
I wonder why the game didn't for some reason pick up where I left off (sitting at the bar).

Jack :)
Pan Galactic Gargleblaster can do that to you.

That's a tall order.
"land anywhere" would restrict you to a small ship. Small ships are small, so your profits in cargo or passenger runs will be restricted.
Apart from that, the best general purpose ships are probably:
  • small: Cobra Mk. V
  • medium: Corsair
  • lange: Cutter, with the Anaconda as follow-up, until the Panther Clipper is released

The release of the new generation of ships has definitely upped the stakes, it's become very hard for the old style ships to compete against that. If you try them, don't start with the CMV, she will spoil you for all other ships.
As a medium all purpose ship i still use the Python Mk1, at least until the Corsair becomes available in game.
It's tough enough to fight off pirates, and can be fitted out for almost anything.
The SCO ride is quite a rollercoaster tough.

Hi All :)

At the moment considering what I can build in one of my claimed systems.
I would like to start building a planetside port of some description but I'd want it to be able to take a large ship landing pad over a medium one as it would give me more leeway in that respect. So I'm dithering over that! :D...Lots of hauling though, so given my realization that I don't really enjoy that part of the game to any great amount needed to do this. 🤷‍♂️
I suppose it's not so bad given the unlimited time period of building now that my system is established, at least the choice is there to do or not do.

I'm tied to the house and phone currently as we've got the gas board coming to do a yearly service to the boiler. I reckon I'll just pootle about in my system with a bit of 'combat' as a distraction in the meantime.🥱
The SCO ride is quite a rollercoaster tough.

Yeah, I've got an SCO drive fitted to my Imp Cutter....almost uncontrollable! :D

Hutton Orbital.
Well, Yesterday I accidently picked up a shipment to the wilderness. After a bit of internal debate, I give it a go. My Mandaly hardly burned any fuel when I was not in SCO, but I still wound up setting an alarm and flaking out for 2hrs. When I got back to keyboard I was about 10K light Seconds out. Another boost, Delievery made. And thats done. Note to self, Never do that again. (At least the math worked out, and I did not overshoot the target.)

494m you say? Of the 500m required? You swine.

What exactly are you looking at here? Do you get an indication of where the next sample is based on what you just scanned? It's not something I'd even noticed.
Yes that's on the suit's HUD right at the top. It shows you how far you are from the SRV, the ship, and the previous two samples you've taken.

It doesn't indicate where the next sample is; in this picture I am standing to what I hoped would be my third sample but I'm too close to one of the previous two so I can't sample it.

I actually jumped a ravine to get a more distant sample in the end, and the jump was pretty marginal...

EDIT: remembered the inb4 this time, which is I also have both SRV Survey and Observatory to tell me when I'm far enough away so I don't actually use this in-game display much.

Power Plant zapping with the rails is fun. An Anaconda blew up almost instantaniously after its shields went down. Though it's all a bit confusing since I've never really done module targetting. The plant went from 100% to death with a one-hit-quitter and I'm not even sure if it was the rails or cannons which did the damage.

That was my first mission spam test though. More experimentation is required. Though I feel satisfied enough in their usefullness that I'll probably go decide on an engineering option next time.

Oh, that's cool even if it only shows you how far the last locations are. I'd still have to land the ship to check the HUD but it'd at least tell me how far I need to fly for the next sample if I was still too close.

Since you asked ;)

Decided to take my alt back to the Bubble today for the current CG since they might get some juicy merits and a bobbly. Left the carrier with its exploration ships where it is near the Core and am heading back in the Mandy at speed (I'd left all my non-exploration ships in the Bubble). Haven't heavily used Neutron stars before (just for fun now and again - my exploration efforts are usually leisurely) - man, you can cover some ground! The long range route planner in the Galaxy Map seems a bit pants at using them, but whenever I happen to arrive at a KGBFOAM to refuel I replot the route and it seems to notice nearby neutrons and update sensibly. Rinse & repeat. Back in the Inner Orion Spur already, hopefully should be home for tea and tiffin after another game session.

Actually, it wasn't just the CG that made me return - I'd found myself thinking "aren't there any interesting undiscovered black hole systems around here?" and realised it was probably time for a change of scene.

Getting withdrawal symptoms.

What's going down in Groove Town, dudes?
Well two new CGs have just started unfortunately they involve Conflict Zones including on foot ones. The rewards are interestingly engineered seeker missiles. The good news is they should run to the 26th. We can only sign up for one side but if it wins and we get in the top 75% we get more weapons.

I might have a go at the ship side once I have finished the primary port of my colony.

I mistakenly thought Youbee bonds from random ship combat would be enough (it was kind've a combat zone), but by sheer coincidence I thought I'd try ground CZ's next anyway, for the first time in a zillion years. I haven't even unlocked Thingyface.

Anyway, just one match almost put me in the top 50% so it was worth it. I may do a mix of both.
