The Route planner discussion thread

- Merge Threads

Route planning only works for a short distance (about 50 ly).

For the planning of longer routes it will be very helpful to be able to plot a line from the current star to the destination star in the galaxy map.

This way we could easier plot a course to a star that is further away tham 50 ly.

I really don't know what all the fuss is about. I take a quick peek at the Galaxy Map, remember the forty-five star systems in order, then just select them as I jump from the Nav panel.

Of course, it helps that I have a bionic brain...

Is this where we file bug reports?

Gamma 1.05

I accepted a delivery job from Oramus Legacy in Amait to Legendre Ring in Breksta. The cargo was 3 Cobalt. When I went to plan my route in the Galaxy Map there was no way to get to Breksta. It was too far. I'm in a starting SideWinder with an E2 FSD. Thanks for the bug fine.

Probably not really a bug. If you dumped some modules you could extend your range for example, or sold some other cargo for example. The game cannot work out how you're going to get there. I've finally worked out how to do this without losing the mission screen (probably obvious)
Bring up the mission. Note the destination system.
Tap "1" and bring up the Galaxy Map
Find the system. Plot a route. Jumps only take a few seconds, so you only need to worry about deadlines under 20 minutes or so if you're flying to a binary system. Or if the phone rings!
Set your first destination (usually you only EVER need two jumps in the Sidewinder or Eagle.)
Tap "1" again (I used to tap "2" and wonder why I had to delve back through menus). Focus switches back to the station, and the mission screen is still up.
Accept the mission if you could get there successfully. Otherwise find another mission or look at Commodities for that run.
You can now Launch, spin to the target, Hyperspace and if necessary immediately get setup for your second jump.

I've done exactly what you have (in my case the destination WAS reachable in the Eagle, but it was around 16 circular jumps to get 11Ly from my start point!! We learn the hard way I'm afraid...

Sandro Sammarco - Lead Designer, he's been here from day one (and before). Mostly (from our end) he provided the DDF with discussion material and yes he's just great! :)

Well, they're obviously busy "getting 'er done", so it's understandable that the people in the know haven't been around all that much.
When they DO drop these bits of info and are a bit more present, it does wonders for the general mood around here.
I believe, a fair portion of forum discontent (here and elsewhere) stems from a perceived lack of information and communication.
In my experience, only few developers weigh "showing your face" high enough, and that's strange when you consider how much gamers value being kept in the loop.
Hopefully, with the pressures of an imminent release soon to be lifted, they will find the time to drop by on a more regular basis.

Great news about the route plotting...keep at it !

Yes!

Man, I've been asking for this since beta 1, it's amazing that they are adding this in, it will make it all so much better.
No longer will I have to write down each system in my journey

Great news as the current dimdim navigator for long journeys was a real bind
thank you very much

This is good news.

This is part of my enjoyment of this kind of game slowly but steadily everything will improve. In a years time I will look at the current mechanics and say 'Can you remember in Gamma when we had to ...' and ' ... you guys have got it easy.' then I will know that have fully become my own granddad.
