The Apple app is already out.

Any Apple users care to tell us what we are missing/getting please.

Nothing really, haven't been able to get it working as it doesn't go past the login screen :/ and from what I've heard on these boards that do get past, well... We ain't missin' much.

I miss the days when a phone was just a phone, I wish these useless apps for everything that come out now would just disappear into the void as they are totally pointless.

or am I just showing my age?

It is showing same problem like ppl on this forum have with ED solo, content, mmo, pvp etc, just buy old phone and forget about apps, do not remove apps for people who enjoy them...

Your thoughts are very sensible, you are right! Probably the app is superfluous..... I'm only a bit curious! During a coffe break.......... look at my ship for 2 minutes..... yes, a new cell bank to mount!!! Why not? :p Yeah, probably superfluous anyway!!!

I know right. An app that connects directly to the game where you can plot course and check market now that, that is an app worth getting. Does this app exist?

There was a fan made app that showed goods, routes, prices etc. It was removed from the Play Store because the upcoming official one covered the same and more

Seems odd that they didn't ship to Android first considering it's 81% market share...

But massive device fragmentation and thousands of screen size/hardware variations to support, versus iOS, which has about 6. Regardless of marketshare, supporting iOS is far simpler. You're not missing much anyway, the app is pretty useless.

iPad/Android/Windows/Flash/Web app

You should make me an app that I can run on any of the devices in topic that displays the screens in cockpit, in a touch screen I have. I can then just use my tablet(s) to do the same work I would otherwise do "in game" -> more immersion. Kind of like the battlefield 4 app that can be downloaded.

Well there is an iOS app you can get, looks pretty nice to but I've never been able to log into it, from the reviews on the app store many others have the same problem.

It sounds exiting anyway ☺ It would be nice to use the keyboard on my Nexus 7 in game. And also some nice looking app that make all nongamers shake there head and make a "wierdo" statement.. :)

+ It's silly to limit this to a IOS app since so many use androids and laptops/surface tablets. One could do a web page plugin from it and just load it in to any device supporting html5 for example. Well I suppose a lot of people myself included would prefer to use a dedicated app even if it just opens a web page. Heck, with 500.000 potential customers already it would be worthwile considering a low cost custom built android tablet tailored to be used in this specific manner + built-in desktop or monitor mounting kit. Take my money please!

Well. The iOS app has ceased to work on release anyway. So you are missing nothing. Shane really. Used to use it for trade. Be docked. Get market info. Leave on screen. Go to another station. Compare. :-(

App for controlling in-game side menus (PC, android, iOS)

Hi.
I was wondering if it will be possible to have feature that would allow us, via some external application, to display data from side panels on secondary monitors?
For example, I currently have one main monitor (27'' DELL), and one side monitor (19'' Samsung), but I also have one spare 19'' monitor that I can connect as third monitor on right side of main monitor. And it would be nice to have side menus/panels always displayed on those side monitors like on this mock-up image:

And to expand on that idea, to have mobile app that will allow us to have this side panels on tablets and/or mobile phones, that can be controlled via touch screen and will send data back to game via USB or WiFi. There are many applications that can be controlled via mobile; for example I have remote controller on my phone for controlling XBMC program that runs on my PC for watching films, so I believe that this feature won't be that big of issue to implement in to game (game would need to have options to setup wifi control by with ip address, port and other stuff)
And this would greatly increase immersion and won't be that expensive option even if you don't have tablet you can use, because pair of cheap low end tablets will work with no problem.

Here is how it wuld look like:

I saw a YouTube video of a guy in Germany that had 3 tablets bound to different parts of the control consoles. (And 3 video projectors)
CNET also had a short article about the same guy and they list the program and equipment he used.
I was thinking of reading the article again to find out the info. I don't think it was a complete view but he bound functions he thought were useful.

If you could find that clip, please share it.
But from your description, it sounds like he just used tablets as "switch board" with bunch of on-screen buttons.
My idea with tablets is that you have fully functional UI panels from game that react to touch commands; basically you would be able to activate menus just by pressing them on screen. And beside that, those side panels would be always on, so you would be able to always see data on them, without need to switch your in-game view or activate them.
But this feature would need to be supported by game it self to work.

Basically it would be something like this (skip to 3:10 to see remote in action):

The forum won't let me post a link but if you go to the CNet web site, search for Elite Dangerous and read the article titled: Gamer captains an amazing starship from his living room

Note: The article also includes the YouTube video

Excerpt from the article:
The setup also includes a custom touch interface dashboard, comprising three Treckstor Ventos 10.1 SurfTabs, running on Roccat Power-Grid software; voice commands available using VoiceAttack software; head tracking and gesture control using TrackIR and Leap Motion respectively; a Saitek X52 Pro HOTAS joystick and Logitech G19 keyboard; a Crossfire2x Sapphire RADEON R9 290 Tri -X OC video card with AMD Eyefinity, resolution 5,760x1,080; and sound via a Logitech Z-5500 5.1 surround system.

I do like your idea of have an entire side panel on a tablet or 2nd/3rd monitor
