I have an A3 shield in my 120t-hauler-Asp for now. It goes down pretty quickly even under sidewinder fire, but it's still a LOT better than nothing.

Capacity = (Ship shield rating)(1.61Erf(0.624[Shield Optmal Hull Mass]/[Ship Hull Mass])(1 + 0.075*[Number of rating levels above E])
This is the Formula for finding the recharge rate of cell banks or shield strength of a generator if your interested.
The exact numbers are still unknown however the values are correct in relation to each other. for example the Sidewinder A2 shield is 76.9% Stronger than the E2

CORRECTION

THIS FORMULA HAS BEEN DISPROVEN
We are currently field testing all the shield generator strengths and cell banks vs all weapons combinations ...

there is a huge amount of data to collect so a final result will take a few weeks to compile ( as we work and cannot play 24/7)
an updated formula for determining strength is in the test stage. Please be patient.

New Formula being tested
Shield Strength (in MJ) = 0.53821 * [Ship Shield Rating] * [erf([1.0228] * [Shield Optimal Hull Mass] / [Ship Hull Mass] - 0.66391) - ([Number of Rating Levels Below A]/17) + 1.04749]

Shield Generator Needed

Hi guys,

I'm trying to upgrade the shield generator of my ASP with something better than the stock one.

Right now I have a Class 5, Rating E Shield Generator.

I would like to get a Class 5, Rating B/C - anyone knows where I can get one?

Thanks!

Any High Tech station in your neighbourhood.
Also I would sheepishly recommend sticking with C5. I make do with D rated C5 shield quite successfully. Plus it's lighter.

Thanks for the info - I already looked around into high tech stations, but I wasn't able to find one :(

Can you suggest any station?

Not particularly, sorry. I don't know where you are. But I operate around Achenar and every high-tech station in vicinity have surplus of stuff.
I bet it will be the same with Federation and Alliance core systems.

Once you are in high-tech system, be sure to check your system map and look at the stations there. Not every station in high-tech system is also high-tech. ;)

It is Intentional, not a bug.
It takes more than one shield cell to completely fill the shields of a higher class shield generator, than the cell bank. (this is confirmed by testing and Dev responses)
for example an E2 cell bank in a viper will only fill aprox 45.4% of an A3 Shield Generator in the same ship.

+1
A B4 cell bank in a cobra will only fill approx 90% of an A4 shield generator whereas an A4 will fill it to 100% every time.

Is this not happening because multiple shield cell banks were never intended to be used? I have seen threads complaining they are too powerful and unbalance the game creating invulnerable ships. If only one bank were allowed it would help to correct this.

This is intended and confirmed by a Dev multiple shield cell banks are sometimes nessisary to fully charge larger shields

It also must be noted that not all shield banks were created equal.
If your fitting multiple shield banks on larger ships you will not get 100% recharge of your shields.
Your shields may require two or even three Shield banks to fully recharge them.

For example an E3 Shield cell bank will only fill a Python with an A7 Shield generator 26.6%

Shield Cell Bank info on HUD?

If I decide I want to use a hotkey for my Shield Cell Bank and not put it in a weapon group is there a way to get your Shield Cell Bank inventory to show on the HUD?

If you put Chaff to a hotkey it still shows up even when not in a weapon group.

Thanks.

I don't think so, but I would sure like to see one.
Or maybe some visual feedback that shows that you actually fired one off. Don't know if it's because the cell bank i have is low grade, but they charge the shields so slowly it's hard to tell if it actually kicked off or not.

Yeah it's odd it doesn't show like Chaff does. If I put SCB on a group it does show up but I don't want to do it like that.

I was wondering the same, I'm pretty sure the answer is no, the only way to check what you have left is to check the modules panel, not ideal when you're in the middle of a scrap.

I can actually hear it kick in if I'm wearing headphones and definitely see it doing it's job, although I always lose count of how many i've used.

Add Shield Cell Bank inventory to show on the HUD?

If I decide I want to use a hotkey for my Shield Cell Bank and not put it in a weapon group it doesn't show on the HUD.

Can SCB do the same? Thanks!

Oh well, that's too bad. Strange Chaff works like this put SCB doesn't.

I made a quick post in the Suggestions forum about. Who knows? Maybe some day?

On the subject of mapping Shield Cells to a HOTAS button... I've done this but I have (had) two shield cell components. I am now sure that when I hit the button it fires BOTH of them - this doesn't happen if you map to a fire group. Anyone else seen this or aware of it or it's a known bug or... ?

Go into your right UI screen, select "modules" and disable one of the shield cell modules, then you will only fire one shield cell when with each keypress. When you've used up all the shield cells in a module disable that module and enable the second shield cell module.

It's relatively kerfuffle-free.
