Panther Clipper Captains!

am i the only one who thinks "panther" before "imperial" when people are talking about the "clipper" on these forums?

gets sooo confusing when i think people are talking about a ship that isn't in game yet. then a few seconds later the penny drops and i catch up :)

I never understood why they called it the "clipper" though.

A clipper buckets along at a very high rate of knots, whereas the panther has to be the slowest ship in the skies.

Unless they mean clipper as in "I clipped your smaller ship as I went through the doors (and totaled it)"

This ship seems really amazing, I wonder how much cargo it will be able to hold.

Some speculated about 900-1000 tons ? Something like that... 700 would be too low for an upgrade of that kind. Now i guess between 800-1000 tons seems reasonable.

What do we know about this ship? Price? Cargo place(maybe 800~1000)? and when it will come into the game?

Additionally, it will be the bigger brother of the t9, how will it fit into the station!? Oo

I've had more hours at the helm of the Panther Clipper than any other vehicle, in any game, ever.

Sadly I fear I won't ever be able to afford one in ED.

Yeah, that was me. Had enough shield generators that I just let them bounce of my hull. An utter OP tank. But boy was it fun! Leaving a famined wasteland behind you and shortly to become obese population on the next rock you visit. :)

Same tactic here ! :D

It was quicker to lock a target, engage autopilot then accelerate to ram than try to shoot at it. So good memories

Progression wise somewhere in that area makes sense; got the T6/Asp in the low 100s area, T7/Python in the mid 200s, T9/Python around 500. So being up around that level would follow.

It used to carry 2,100 Tonnes

I guess they will have to squash it down and hide the huge turrets for the letterbox! - So many squashed ships to come, I think stations should have warning lights and sirens when one of these beasts approaches the toaster!

I really hope we get flak turrets too! - Such a slow ship - a well organised fleet of fighters could cause it some trouble.... could?

For that, we have to get fully working wings first.

Any ideas about the pricing? Or any ideas when it comes ingame? Iam so hot about this, need moooaarrr cargospace! :D

No Idea - It was the ultimate ship back then, so I would guess >300,000,000 and probably a Billion fitted! - That said, if it ever became possible for a sole Viper or Eagle to take it's shields down it would be a VERY sad day in Elite History!

I fear it'll be nerfed.

Back in the day you could forget about guns and just stuff it full of shields. All other ships were just flies on the windscreen.:D

It only had one weakness. The acceleration was so low c.f. the other ships that if you landed on a heavy planet, it was possible to get into a situation where G > ship's max acceleration and you couldn't take off.

I can quote a second one. If a ship was big enougth, even with maxed shield they can do a little of internal damage when impacting against the windscreen. It was not funny when this damage apply on the drive unit. Instant 400 tons of scrap (from memory) and no mobility. :-/

Okay it had happen only one time...

We must recognize that it will be hard to resist at the charm of this Panther clipper

From the size of the concept-art and the size of the letterbox of the stations it may have less cargo space than the Lakon type-9. Why not if it gain a tad more manoeuvrability and firepower.

Loved the Panther but if you really wanted to go epic, you needed the next ship down, the Puma, because that allowed a fuel scoop to be fitted which the Panther, for some strange reason, did not.

My greatest FE2 adventure was limping a damaged and rapidly failing Puma home, halfway across the galaxy, following a misjump. Couldn't have done it without fuel scoops..

If it carries 2100T like the original it will cost in excess of 500 million and cost around 1.5 billion to fit out completely A grade.
That 2100 tons was without drive or any equipment. The class 8 drive took 700 tons of that alone. Add 200 shield generators and you're left with 600 tons space where to fit all other equipment (including weapons) and fuel for hyperjump. 20MW Beam Laser takes 75 tons, fuel IIRC was at least 40 tons for max jump - 400 tons cargo space. :)
