I hate Cobras.

Over the course of me trading in my Type-9, I have developed a profound hatred toward Cobras.

So far, I have encountered three types of pirates: one, NPC pirates, which are no problem in most cases unless they're in a Dropship or Clipper and would lead to a rather lengthy battle; and two, the types would ask first then shoot later. Those are either too green and are too caught up in their pirate play, or very experienced and understand the value of the ship, and for the former I would simply open fire, and for the latter, well, they would probably ask again when my hull is at around 10% and at that point I guess I would just drop what they want for the sake of it.

The third type is what I would call "rabid dogs", because they would open fire on sight and would not stop until you explode. And since I'm in a T9 which hauls a massive load, the chance of some my goods surviving is almost guaranteed.

And I hate them. For obvious reasons.

And they're always in Cobras. Of course it's Cobra. Because it's only ship that suits that role. Sidey is too wimpy, Eagle can barely carry anything and Vipers are mostly used by bounty hunters. Those that can afford anything above that probably worked their rear off and understand the labor that goes into those ships.

Because of them, I had to find trade routes that are relatively low-vis with profitability at only 2000Cr per ton per round trip. And whenever I finds a trade route ending in a new system, I'm always fanatically looking around for hollowed signals, and whenever a Cobra pops up my heart begins pounding hard.

I've had two encounters with those that I call rabid dogs. I've run into Cobras that don't really understand what they're doing, and then I run into another one carrying chaff launcher and I got exploded. Total loss around 7 millions. With a burning ball of fury rampaging within, I replaced all my weapons with seeker missiles - fixed weapon in a T9 is impossible, gimbal/turret are junk against chaffs. With five missiles, even if the pirate is carrying Point Defense, there's still a chance at least a couple of missiles will find their ways through.

And today I got interdicted by another one of those rabid dogs. I finally had the chance to test out my new loadout, and I'm very glad to see that after four rounds of alpha-strike his hull was down to 2%, after which I didn't hesitate to go ahead for a fifth. Oh boy it felt good. So good. My shield was gone and my hull was knocked down to 65% but UGH IT FELT GOOD.

Anyway, just letting off some steam.

Sorry you've had bad experiences like that. The BHS (My merry band of pirates) do run around in cobras for the most part, so that made me laugh. However, our directive is to always open comms first and negotiate. On top of that, our plan is to pop the cargo hatch on a ship, not pop the ship.. murder gets expensive!

I like you. I think I didn't like you before, but now I like you.

It is irrational unless it is the same guy who blew you up. To him you're a rabid dog. That is the point.

Stopped reading right there. I believe your point is that you're crazy.

Yeah, I was doing my own business, hauling my cargo and waiting for my payday when I land. He interdicted me, opened fire on me without comm and with a clear intent to brutally murder me for my cargo - no hatch limpet, no comm, not even deterring after me returning two waves of missiles, lasers burning through my shield and missiles for my hull (mind that he used missiles, not gimballed cannons because he was expecting me to be chaffing which means he's been doing it for a while). He was not stopping, so I did the sensible thing and blew the crap out of him because otherwise I'll have to pay 5 millions to buy my ship while suffering another 2 million loss from cargo.

And I'm the rabid dog?

I will cease to argue with you from now on. It has become even more pointless than it is and I deem you either to be one of them rabid dogs, or your level of intelligence not up to par. Gosh I feel stupider already just by bothering to reply.

Erm go stuff you over large caboose with biowaste........................

Cheeky clod of earth, labelling all us cobra owners in the same boat (ship)!

And stop blocking the exits fatty!

Look, you need to think with perspectives. I've been mugged brutally multiple times by Cobra pirates, so whenever one pops up on my radar I assume for the worst. And I'm not one of those NPC T9's who get their rear stuck in the keyhole and can't figure out where's the front. I dock and fly my T9 with the grace of a humpback whale.

Hey I'm pretty sure I've seen you a couple of days ago on MWO forum :D

Yup you have :)

(and I'm a dirty [but fair] pirate)

...and now I have the mental image of when airplanes first came out for carrying cargo, and people no longer had to transport EVERYTHING across the oceans with ships, of some pirates sitting there watching the planes fly safely overhead, and yelling "COWARDS!!!!" at them. :-D

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I am a novice/surveyor/merchant/midshipman/lord in a Cobra MkIII. My Cobra is in A4 class shape, military shields, A4 shield generator, A4 frameshift drive, two D-class lasers, dual-turreted cannons, etc. It is really top of the line. I had heard about attacks by other players and NPC's when I first started, so I bulked up. It was a defensive strategy. It has taken me since early December to get it that way.

I've never interdicted another player or NPC. I am friendly to Federal, Empire, and Alliance.

Not all Cobra drivers are bad guys. But if you catch me, . . . !

edit: Oh, I love being interdicted by "wanted" pirates/ships though. Please stop me, as I want your bounty too. I troll (as in fishing) for pirates sometimes, with a couple of tons of Palladium in my hold. (I hate to hear a pirate whine about me not having anything in my hold.) :D

A trade ship taking out dedicated pirate vessels?
T9's must be nefred! Seeker missiles, clearly, also need a nerf!

Seriously though, good job, Op...

I would not appreciate being interdicted by some transport cargo ship wanting to "kill all cobras". (and that sounds kinda silly, btw)

I'm also a "non-rabid" Cobra pilot, A class too. Though flying an Asp right now, and use the Cobra for smuggler runs and bounty hunting.

Honest, lasers and mc's are really only any good for piracy, most PvP types who are out to kill players bring heavy hitting weapons with expensive ammo - dumbfires, rail guns... The sort of things that will kill you with 3 or 4 well landed shots.

I try to avoid those guys! Though I did take one out at Nav Beacon a few days back - he shot his dumbfires from way too far away, which worked out well for me...

Z....

It is relevant. I'm not flying a T9 to blow ships up, I'm there to make profit. However, my ship got blown up by a Cobra pirate before and now I'm taking my turn to blow them up - I was the one interdicting them, btw.

The satisfaction is from vengeance, not from blood thirst. Unfortunately poor Valan here doesn't seem to comprehend the concept of context.

So that's like some bloke cuts me up in a Ford Fiesta. I give him the finger and he forces off the road into a ditch, runs up and stabs me in the gut.
Thankfully I survive.
The next Fiesta driver I see, I pull along side and blow them away with a shotgun. Justice served.

There's something missing in the logic for me :)

Yes there is. It is your brain.

Are all Ford Fiesta drivers arses? I don't think so. Are most pirates flying Cobras? Most likely. Your comparison is invalid.

Here is my solution

ECMs
Chaff
Max out on:
Shields (yes...give up a slot for some decent shields)
Power coupling
Thrusters
Power plant
FSD

When you get interdicted.....

Fire off Chaff, ECMs as required
Hit 2 pips on SYS 4 pips on Engines

Thrust, thrust, thrust

Charge FSD.....jump to safety.

I have been interdicted by all types of PC pirates, griefers, murderers.....total deaths so far....0

That said....there was one occasion, in my type 6, i have a full cargo of rares which i had spent a whole week collecting....i was on my way to the farthest reaches of the empire to sell my valuable cargo....i got interdicted, he was a murderer...just wanted to kill me....i managed to escape but had 45% hull left and a breach....i managed to land and repair with about 10 seconds left. I sold my cargo there and then. I was shaking like a leaf...the most exhilarating experience so far in elite.

I feel ya bro. Similar thing happened to me, though I was in my T9 and the pirate was a Python. Imagine docking a T9 with about 40 seconds of oxygen left.

So your basic premise is that, because most pirates (in your conjecture) fly Cobras, then all Cobras are evil?

I see observer bias, you should look that up. It is a well understood phenomenon.

You're in a trading ship, which is a defacto target for pirates. So you'll get interdicted mostly by pirates and perhaps a number of psychopathic murderer types.

This is all you see though. "Oh I'm being interdicted again."

I bet the percentage of pilots who fly Cobras who don't interdict you, vastly outnumber the pirates/murderers in Cobras who do interdict you.
