Ugh, I just don't have it in me to redo all this right now. I was getting a bit bored, this makes the perfect break I guess.

nostromo and joystick

Hey,

Im using a nostromo and CH pro joystick. I am still configuring my keys for the nostromo to a suitable ED config.
I found that the synapse 2.0 did not cover the nostromo driver wise, however it was plug and play initially. I also used the legacy drivers for nostromo. Probably avoide synapse if you can help it.

Dual Joystick updates (Identifiers), and additional control toggles (thrust axis switching)

As space flight is radically different to other simulations, using two joysticks allows you to control movement vertical and lateral thrust, with access to other key controls when landing or in combat, but two identical joysticks have the same button tags.

Requests

1. Can you add an identifier to each joystick so when configuring controls, so you can see whether button 10 -for example, is allocated for Joystick one, or Joystick two.

2. Consider adding a toggle switch in normal flight - so the axis assigned for vertical thrust can be switched to forward/backward thrust with a key/button. This would be a three way toggle. (this could show as a secondary axis under a toggle function enabled, and axis transform entry underneath vertical thrust)

Toggle one (default) is the vertical thrusters behaving as normal, Ideal for landing and combat

Toggle two (main thrust hold) is main thrust, but with the thrust effectively holding until corrected as you would with assist off. Ideal for long range cruise/flight

Toggle three (main thrust burst) axis is main thrust but behaves as normal, ideal for short range travel

3. Add a curve control for roll, or enable a slight softening of assist on roll when set digitally according to a slider setting in the control menu - for elegant station entry - so the craft continues to roll slowly when toggled (and an automatic toggle option when within 3km of stations until rotational correction kicks in)

As an example for the main controls I have

Left joystick (left handed) controlling

Yaw, Pitch, Roll, Thrust

Cycle Target, Cycle Subsystem on HAT
Select/Cycle Fire-Group on Fire 5 and 6
Fire 1, 2, and the two select target options in Fire 1-4

Right Joystick

Vertical and Lateral thrust (yaw unassigned currently)
Throttle assigned to zoom when 1.1 becomes available

POV for power distribution and boost
Fire 2 for Power distribution reset
Fire 5 and 6 for assist toggle and gear toggle
Fire 1 for Deploy hardpoints
Fire 3-4 for Shield Cell, Chaff

Left Joystick Base Controls

Left Hand side: SC Only, HS Only, SC Default

Right Joystick Base Controls

Left Hand Side: Cycle Non-Hostile Radar Contacts

If this were done you could assign everything two joysticks, with one hand alternating to the mouse only for rare occasions, or to use the focus override key if not assigned to the joystick, along with a few Panel Keys

They main joystick has the UI focus controls overridden, and the two joysticks can also combine to fully control the map if set up (or a joystick and mouse could continue to be used)

Summary

Both personally and for Space Sims this type of control axis switching could expand on the Focus system to define a common method of control for more complex simulations in the most effective way possible, as a single thrust control just doesn't cut it. It would also sell more flight controller sticks, but to be fully versatile this toggle feature would be needed to avoid continuously holding the joystick forward, and to overload the axes in a way that enhances control for different situations.

I liked the Nostromo back when it was from Belkin, but at least Razer's first generation software was too greatly fail (D-Pad wouldn't chord, so on).

Right now I'm running a Logitech G-13 has my "gaming claw" or "pad" and a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro as the stick. 'Course, you won't be operating the throttle slider when your other hand is using the gamepad, but that's the only major drawback.

Also, I want to say that I'm so happy to have found a recent game where mouse input is not simply better than a stick. So nice.

Alas, what folk choose to do with my name I've no control over!

Have you been searching for your name again? I think that, secretly, you like it and come on here with fingers crossed for another mention? ;) Thankfully, with such an influx of new people, and nothing relevant to apply the term to, the meme is dying a natural death. :)

This was actually something I picked up in one of the books. They used the term "Jonty" and it struck me that an awful lot of people would have no idea what it meant!

I genuinely believe that it helped contain the number of rude and mocking threads, and negativity in general. That shouldn't HAVE to be the case, but I believe it is in the case of this forum. I believe that if people believe a post of theirs is likely to obtain more negative than positive rep, they'll think twice about posting the negative content.

The flip side, of course, is that currentmy anyone can basically say anything (with moderation), which does foster a more open dialogue. Unfortunately, many posts of late seem to prove that we need the looming threat of negative rep to ensure we continue to act cordially.

Just one guy's opinion, of course, but the forum did seem more "positive" overall, and the tone a lot more civil generally, when negative rep was still a possibility.

And just for the record: I only ever doled it out if I received it and felt it unjustified. I virtually never gave out negative rep, but clearly many others did given the negative overall rep of certain posters.

Nonsense, any non die hard fan-boi opinion was nuked, there was no balance of opinion. Remove rep all together.

I really miss the comments in the rep. I dislike repping someone and not being able to tell them what it was for. I rarely used negative rep but when I did I felt it was justified and I explained why I was doing it.

Send a PM.

I can't say I miss neg repping. I was given neg rep by some [chap] ;) on here, simply for stating my personal opinion (in a perfectly reasonable manner) in one of the long-running discussion threads. It wasn't even like I was insulting anyone, I just committed the heinous crime of voicing my opinion on one aspect of the game, which is surely what these forums are meant for. Instead my opinion caused this reaction from one rather emotional chap:

Someone_Is_Wrong_On_The_Internet1.gif

I agree that it's a good feature in principle but, people being people, there'll always be a few tools who abuse it as long as it's there.

I'm not bothered about not being to neg rep posts, but I would like to add a comment when I rep someone.
Anyone know how to do that? Brett?
It's turned off, they decided to not have a comment go with a rep point.

The changes started by removing the comments first as these were used quite often to insult other member(s). After removing the comments the number of unjustified neg reps have drastically increased, meaning it became another way to abuse. If comments are turned back on again nothing stops from giving positive reputation and leaving nasty comments about it.
That seems to be a rather futile effort :)

I'd like to see the comments returned... But if someone is abusive to someone else, just ban them! We don't need those types round here anyway.

I don't see why a few bad eggs should spoil our great community. Just kick em out of the airlock into the cold vacuum of space. ;)

i have an x52 pro that i have modified for thrusters
It`s a psp thumbstick that replaces Rotory 1 and 2 and a small pushbutton that replaces button i.
i removed button i and placed the thumbstick in the hole, drilled a hole to the left of it for the button replacement.
i have mapped the thumbstick to thrusters and the button is boost and landing gear when shifted
cant seem to post a pic (post count to low)

I'm currently using two sticks and pedals - right stick with pitch/yaw/roll, left stick with lateral thrust up+down/right+left and the pedals for throttle. Works like a charm, but takes a little practice to get used to.

I'm in a same process right now (psp joystick) but I want to place mine where throttle hat is. Please post some pictures - you can always post a link to imgur.

Without having to add a second pcb I presume - clever

X52 + an additional joystick is exactly the setup I'm currently using. That's only because I play perma FA-off and the extra-precision on thruster-control the second stick provides is more than welcome thought. I'd probably play only with the HOTAS if I played with FA-on most of the time, with thrusters bound to the throttle's hat.

2x Cyborg V1s + Thrustmaster Ferrari pedals for throttle. With the Cyborgs having 5 buttons plus 1 trigger and 1 pinky button each, you have more than enough functions. I have right stick for miscellaneous flight stuff (jump, boost, ui focus, silent running, etc) left stick is for targeting (ships, subsystems) as well as throttle, (100%, 75%, 50%, 25%). I had the throttle buttons bound for when I didn't have the pedals, now I have the pedals I use them mostly, but the buttons are good for supercruise.

The 2 green blocks is what i used to reference the pots on rotary 1 and 2
wiring_stick_2_engadget_howto.jpg
A=VCC
B=Up/Down
C=Ground
D=Left/Right

wire Colours inside X52Pro to the rotorys. red is VCC, black is ground, blue X or Y and purple X or Y
the wires are connected to the 2 rotory potentiometers
i cut these and connected them as above

Hope this helps
