There's no throttle software installed. I did relocate both devices to the front panel USBs once I got the DK2 installed, so we'll see if the throttle disconnects continue. I also tossed the MSI USB speedboost software, because I could absolutely see that causing issues.

You should install the software, i had to so it could work, just choose your model and download all you want, install what needs to be and maybe reboot ?...

Um, no, it works out of the box in win 7. The software is just for advanced customization, but Elite's mappings are extremely advanced in their own right, and I find I don't need it. Now, if you use it for other games, then maybe you do need TARGET. My stick is pretty much Elite only at the moment.

Yeah, the X52 Pro drivers nearly killed my pc. So many bluescreens... I'm not a computer expert so replacing the motherboard on my Alienware was out of the question (I'm a geologist, not an engineer). The drivers for the old X52 worked fine, but the roll sensor in the joystick was worn down and my ship kept rolling on its own.

Finally abandoned both and got the T.16000 with TWCS throttle. A nice set, but the throttle is a little sticky. I had to Velcro it to the table to keep the base from sliding all over the place. Also, the little stick for the vertical/lateral thrusters is WAY too sensitive. If it's moved down by so much as a millimeter the ship will start drifting downwards at 11 m/s until I slightly nudge it back up. Tried adding deadzones in the options menu, but I still haven't gotten rid of that sensitivity issue completely.

Did you use the TARGET software for the deadzones? I had the exact same problem and editing the deadzones with TARGET fixed it.

Hey

First ever post here, I have searched, and googled and allsorts, but I can't find the answer.

I have a cockpit that I use for DCS.

I'm getting into Elite Dangerous and I'm struggling with mapping my (extensive) set of controllers.

I have the following:

TM Warthog Throttle
TM Warthog Joystick
TM (Cougar) MFD's (2 of them)
Saitek Flight Switch Panel
Saitek Flight Radio Panel
Saitek Farming Side Panel
Crosswind MFG Pedals

Ok, so my *main* question is the with MFD's.

I've seen the old posts from 2014/2015 that said that Frontier didn't support them, but it seems they kinda do not - but only soft of.

I'm not using a TARGET profile in Elite Dangerous - Just usual HID plug and play.

However the problem I'm getting is that each button on each MFD is duplicated on the other MFD. i.e. OBS1 on the left MFD can be assigned in Elite Dangerous's control options to a specific binding. However, that also means that OBS1 on the RIGHT panel has the same assignment.

So basically, Elite Dangerous is seeing BOTH panels as the SAME panel, despite them being two different input devices.

Can anyone please tell me if this is a bug / a lack of dev support, or is there some workaround I haven't come across yet?

Thanks

Firstly - welcome, great setup and you should have mucho fun in E D with that.

Mainly - I use CHPro rather than the warthog or crosswind and don't use saitek anything - I do have the two Cougar MFDs though (finally he gets to the point!) so in regard to your issues there:

E D sees each MFD as a separate "joystick" so button 1 on the right hand one shows in the options controls screen just as "Joy_1" and button 1 on the left hand one shows up also as "Joy_1" but they are recognised as separate inputs (so in effect as separate joysticks). In the bindings file you can see that it identifies these as e.g "<Secondary Device="044FB352" Key="Joy_4" />" and "<Secondary Device="044FB351" Key="Joy_6" />" so E D clearly differentiates between them. I should point out that I don't have TARGET installed.

I was initially worried that the game would only recognise one MFD as I half-recalled seeing that there was a limitation of 4 input devices but I need not have worried, all 5 (joystick, throttle, pedals and 2 MFDs) work just fine.

To show that each is recognised separately, here is a pic from the mcdee site of my current MFD bindings, I have left a load spare as there are controls coming in the next update that I want to map:

Hope you get yours working. :)

Custom Binds Confusion

Hi.

I'm a noob to ED. I have a Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X (Version 2). I also only play ED in VR with my HTC Vive.
I had ED on my Xbox One but never really got into it.

Now, playing ED on the Vive really does make it much more interesting & entertaining.

So, my question is:

What is the difference between Custom.1.8.binds & Custom.2.0.binds?
If I modify/replace Custom binds do I have to set the controller within ED Horizons as 'custom'?

Also, when using modifier buttons on my HOTAS does this mean they work like shift or control keys?

It is a real pain having to remove my Vive HMD every time I want to check which button I need to press.
Is there any way to have the JPG, (as generated on https://www.mcdee.net/elite/ which is brilliant BTW & TY), show 'in' the cockpit. I have tried using OVRdrop which works fine in other SteamVR apps. But focus needs to stay on OVRdrop which of course in ED this won't work as ED doesn't see controller input when the ED window is not in focus.

Anyone else having these problems? Have you found any solutions?

Thanks...

Hi. This is my first post in the ED forums.

I'm an ED noob. I play ED/ED Horizons/ED Arena only in VR using my HTC Vive & Windows 10 PC.
I have a Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X V.2

So, my initial questions are:

What is the difference between Custom.1.8.binds & Custom.2.0.binds?

If I modify/replace the custom binds, do I need to set ED to use 'custom' controller? (Yes, I am that much of a noob).

It is a real pain having to remove my Vive HMD every time I want to check a controller button assignment.
Is there any way I can have a picture of my button assignments 'in' the cockpit?
I use OVRdrop for all my other SteamVR apps and it works well.
But because OVRdrop will only work when windows 10 focus is on the OVRdrop window,
ED won't work. Because ED won't take any controller input when the ED window is not 'in focus'.

In looking for postings regarding ED binds for the T-Flight HOTAS. They all include camera controls,
which of course I don't need. My Vive HMD is head tracking. How best should I re-assign these controls?

Has anyone else had these problems? Did you manage to find a workaround?

(Quick shout out to whomever created https://www.mcdee.net/elite/ Awesome utility dude. TY. Although I have questions about that too. I'll save those for another post.)

Thanks...

So..... long time lurker, first post...

I am relatively new to ED - I played it solidly for a few months a couple of years back but have only just got back to playing properly and am really logging the hours now...

I have a quick question on HOTAS X bindings... I recently found a very good set up online (probably from on here and apologies if I can't remember who's it was!)

Anyway, I like the set up and want to adopt the bindings as I am currently flicking between basic HOTAS use (throttle, pitch, yaw firing etc) and keyboard / mouse use. So my question is in order to set these up, do I start from a blank key bindings set up and work through the relevant areas to assign the buttons?

Here is the set up: https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1Vd2CvlJCNxLmTUdn_jVgBoNGAHRPgFKdcxudHIj95Uw/edit

Also, how do you guys have the SRV controls set up on the HOTAS?

Thanks

Years ago I bought a 3D mouse... It was essentially a 3 button mouse mounted on a joystick that had 6 axis instead of the usual 4. You pull up or pushed down to get the other 2 axis. I can't remember if it had a twist axis. I never really got comfortable with it and went with a regular joystick instead. I can't remember what the name was and it may have been long enough ago that it was out during Windows 3.11 days, certainly no later than Win95.

Our cad jocks use the larger versions but I can't see this working very well as you can't fly and press buttons. Might be fun to experiment with the smaller fool around with.

Um, no, it works out of the box in win 7. The software is just for advanced customization, but Elite's mappings are extremely advanced in their own right, and I find I don't need it. Now, if you use it for other games, then maybe you do need TARGET. My stick is pretty much Elite only at the moment.

I've never liked the target software as it tends to crash and you have to start it up every time you use it. It's not very intuitive either.

I'll shamelessly do a bit of thread necromancy here: Being a highly casual player and CH Fighterstick + Pro Throttle owner, I've had to deal with "relearning" my key mappings after a longer absence from a game in the past. A long list of control mappings with memorable names like "Joystick 1 Button 5" however was the worst possible way to do this, only slightly beat out by just pressing everything to see what it does.

That's why I looked for reference sheets to fill in and print my mappings. The official "kneeboard" resource provided by CH however is visually an outdated eyesore of a joke (http://www.chproducts.com/13-29620-Downloads-and-Community-Links.php.html, http://www.chproducts.com/files/chproducts/Retail-Kneeboards.pdf). Just like printing labeled high def pictures of the actual devices would mainly serve to empty my printer's ink.

That's whyI decided to do a properly scalable reference image (.svg) of the Fighterstick and Pro Throttle to label and print as I see fit. If anybody has a use for these maps, you can find the original .svg files here:https://github.com/BurnyBurns/controller_maps

Suggestions for what I messed up and how to mess it up less are very much welcome. The placeholder labels in the .svg files ought to be replaced/improved, but I couldn't motivate myself to do it so far. Software used is Inkscape.

E.g. my Elite Dangerous reference exported to .png (transparent background - needs a forum layout with light background color to display properly). Yaw is mapped to the rudder pedals and therefore ommited on the sheet, as it's sufficiently easy to member. ;) The "eject cargo" function has also since been removed - activating it through the side panel if it's ever needed is quick enough and has about zero chance of happening by accident.

chproducts_layoutburncvsog.png

I'm of course aware of the fantastic reference sheet generator for Elite, but in the end I wanted a more printer friendly while also scalable sheet I could layout freely.

Suggestions ...............

As a complete dunderhead when it come to graphics is it possible to make available blank .png versions of these? I tried using gimp and LibrOffice Draw but got error messages and I don't really know what I am doing with those to be truthful.

Sure, here you go:

chproducts_combat_stiblb3f.png

I don't know if Gimp/LO Draw support editing .svg files. They're vector graphics, but really, at their core their basic text files. These contain text descriptions of the paths that form the image, which can be rendered/exported by a vector editing tool - like Inkscape - to an image file format. At whatever resolution you'd like. Vectors are well suited for these kind of diagrams, because something that fills and looks good an an average monitor doesn't when printed out, as the dpi value for a decent printed image is a lot higher than what you get on a monitor.

I have a X52 HOTAS but I find I am lacking in the control a bit, I would like a mini joystick similar to what the X56 and even the TFlight Hotas has on the throttle. To that end I have thought of purchasing one of those small bluetooth controllers you see on ebay for android devices and using it on my PC. I would most likely Velcro or otherwise secure it to my throttle and use it either with my thumb or my index finger.
Does anyone know if one of these little controllers works within Elite? I will find out soon as I will purchase one this weekend but if anyone can confirm whether it works or not before I buy it you could save me like 5 dollars and some frustration lol.
Here is what I am referencing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Bluetooth-...091629?hash=item2394032dad:g:vMIAAOSwuAVWurc4
I would mount it similar to what this person did: https://imgur.com/5fYwCf3
Sauce: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/7b6plg/x52_joystick_button_mod/

Kinda wish I could remove the mouse from the throttle and replace it with a mini stick :p
