I voted yes for a steam key but there a +'s and -'s to having it on steam
The upside is that giving out free keys to all us beta backers etc allows us to having our second commander slot without any work from FD. Updates will run automatically and steam seem to be a stable platform (even EvE is on steam now a decade after it started)
Still dont really like steam but i come from the age of owning a physical copy of the game rather than digital downloads. Still feels like you are renting the game rather than buying it but thats just me i suppose. The biggest problem i have with steam is the release times,
many games i have brought were it says release date for example is 2nd April, so log into steam at midnight to play the said game and then have to wait til maybe 5 or 6 pm to play because the game only releases on US time. Steam is a global delivery system and as such should deliver games at Midnight Zulu in each specific country. Cities Skylines was a primes example of that, uploaded to steam the day before release by the developers but had to wait til 4pm to play it.
The downside is that no key i will probably buy it on steam and also buy the boxed version which is now out (to go along with my other boxed versions of elite since the bbc version
