Ok so here's another one (also from Asia btw :p)

Yay! Where? HK, Taiwan, Japan, Korea? None of the above?

I launched about an hour age and now only about 1,600 ly from SOL, still trying to find img host so I can show images of my departure

Well if you use an Android phone you'd probably have a google account. Google Plus comes with a "Photo" thing. You can use that :)

Rankaze, FoxTwo - chill on the ramming convo por favor. There's a bunch of other threads where you can actively chat about this without diluting our fine Buckyball experience. :)

Don't make me send you to Hutton Orbital without supper. :p

Apologies for the US Centric football ref... I lost my soccer dude with the yellow card. Use your imagination.

Hey Bucky I have emailed you screenshots of the start of my run, hope you receive them allright. Still on the way now :)

From Indonesia. How about you?

Unfortunately I use Apple, but I have emailed the screenshots to Bucky, at least to qualify for an entry first :)

CMDR name : Zergling_
Ship name : Asparagus
Ship type : ASP

I'm not sure if imgur works there but I uploaded all my stuff there. Also what fox said, and if I'm not mistaken you can also upload straight from your computer to ED forums. Plenty of choices, which will you choose.

Also good luck, it gets fun around the core.

Zergling's entry has been processed after a slight transponder glitch and the Asparagus is already 2,000 LY on its way to Sag A*! Zerg, if you're reading this, get back to piloting! Don't waste any more time, you're good to go! Good luck and congrats on going from "I think I might do this" to "I'm 1,900 LY out" in the space of a couple of hours! Ladies and Gents, this is a true Buckyballer in the making! :D

As for where Zerg's from, with a name like that I'm gonna have to go with South Korea, Starcraft capital of Sol. ;)

And...

Zerg be ready for galactic map insanity when you get to the core. Somehow I need to make this sticky or post it in the first message... Zerg, when you get close to the core your galmap will overload with the zillions of stars close by. Turn on "Realistic View," try to plot routes in multiples of your jump range, or exit the game and restart to free up memory, but just be ready... The last 1,000 to 2,000 light years may make you want to pull your hair out. Poor CMDR TerranBlade was forced to abandon ship because of it. Good luck!

I don't think any amount of warnings can truly prepare one for the frustration that is GalMap Insanity near the core.
It's just something you heed the warnings, but still have to experience it to understand.
Bit like seeing a 'Wet Paint' sign and having to touch it anyway to be sure.

It might amuse you to know, that "Zergling" can also be a fully qualified CHINESE name - usually for a female. Males seldom have a "ling" (零,铃,玲 etc) for a second name. Plus with the recent modernization of China, it is not outside the realm of possibility someone there might just want a "western-sounding" first name like "Zerg" (责任感, phonetically. Yeah waste of characters to use 3 to make the phonetic equivalent of "Zerg").

Or it could easily be explained that he's a westerner based in Asia for work... :D

Or, an Asian country like Singapore (eg me) where English is the primary language and our native tongues relegated to being "second language" officially.

Personally, I only experienced it very briefly. Maybe because I went up about 100 to 200 LY from Sol so there might be LESS systems "up there" than in the middle where everyone else is... might help speed up Galmap.

Amen, brother. When we all get back we'll have to have some kind of ceremonial clensing of that horrific experience. I plan to drown those memories in a deep pool of alcohol. And if they learn to swim, I'm taking them to an ocean of booze. We'll see who runs out of air first.

That's actually pretty interesting... Thanks, F2 :) Ya learn something new every day. But I'm going to counter with that "Zergling" is also the base unit for the Zerg swarm in Starcraft. But it doesn't matter where Zergling's from. The bottom line is where Zergling is headed. Bound for the center of the Milky Way in search of glory, a star-pip on the leaderboard and a downright SPIFFY bumper sticker!

Now, "David Kim" would be a Korean name! :D

Ok sorry I'm just so bored 27,000 LY from Sol.....slowly limping back :(

Now I know how Janeway feels...

I haven't been there (more on this in a minute) but I did wonder, rather than using the galactic map, has anyone tried simply targetting systems via the navigation panel? Assuming you know roughly which way you need to go (and maybe that's the problem) could you not simply work up from the bottom of the Nav panel list (i.e. furthest first) targetting systems until you find one that's in roughly the right direction? Jump and repeat with an occasional check on the galaxy map to make sure you haven't done a Mirkwood.

As to my own journey, currently, on a good day, I get 1hr 45mins of game time per weekday (too much RL at weekends) so a 12-13hr flight would take me about a week and a half. Take into account coming back again (assuming I don't use the die and respawn at last docked station total cop out method) and that's 3 weeks of commitment to post the worst time in history.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm up for the challenge but, given this competition is open ended, I'm currently still biding my time on the off chance that an opportunity to play for 24hrs straight will present itself ('cos that's do-able right? at least, that's what my attorney tells me).

I'm afraid the Nav panel will only show a maximum of 20 (?) systems, which in the core gets you about 4Ly. :D

Anyhow...

Controversially, I decided that uploading an entire 12-hour run video might cause me need to find a new ISP - and also a new set of friends, because nobody's gonna watch that!
So... I decided to do something a little bit different... Enjoy! :)

Oh ... My ... God

Screw the official film competition, THAT is the single best Elite Dangerous video I've ever seen! It's a work of genius I tell you.

I know it doesn't qualify in any way whatsoever but you should re-post that over in the Ctrl-Alt-Space film competition thread, I know there's people over there who'd love to see it (and man, this NEEDS to be seen).

Superb, well done and thanks.

Great stuff.. Im still amazed your jump deviation was so small over that vast distance. with the 16 tank Im having to replot and spend longer scooping, its a lot more chilled with the 32.. but range is obviously shorter by a light year and a half.
maybe when 1.3 comes out I can fit a 16 and a 8 or something. but then I think youd do it with a 8 and 4.
your times not going to beaten easily in an asp. you say you lost an hour to course plotting.. in my tests I can get to your time if I have zero course plotting errors. which other than pre plotting the course .. isn't going to happen.
so again.. amazing run chap. Ill give it another go on Saturday.. hopefully I can get a bit closer to your time.

I assume you guys saw this? Especially the last point.

Hello Commanders!

I haven't managed to get to the end of this thread yet, but here are a few responses to issues that have been raised:

  • Ramming is a bounty offence, not a fine. If it was a fine, it would not be a real consequence to boost-ramming, as you could destroy ships then pay off the fine straight away. It's tough, though no tougher than other starport offences.
  • The 100 m p/s liability limit is *may* change. Whatever limit we have, we want to ensure that it's not possible to destroy a stock sidewinder travelling under it.
  • When interstellar bounties arrive - they will trigger based on a credit value threshold for all bounties and fines added together for minor factions associated with a major faction.
  • We'll hopefully make the docking computer immune from the ramming crime, allowing it to retain its current speeds.
  • We will be looking to make sure that turrets don't trigger crimes by attacking innocent/un-scanned vessels.
  • Basic scans *should definitely* be shared among a wing, as long as both ships were present when the target was scanned. If this is not happening it is a bug and should be ticketed.
  • EDProtestgoat: I'll need to check with some clever coder folk on this, but I'm hopeful that we can have this crime not squawked with "don't report crimes against me": as long as all participants use this functionality then they would be safe to race near each other - though hitting spectators would still trigger the crime.

Hope these nuggets help.

I'm going to resist the temptation to discuss this as per Ez's request and say.. dude.. find some time to make a run. youll need a 30ly jump range at least to do it in one sitting. hauler, type 6, asp or conda.
and an asp or conda to make a serious attempt at alots time. the more credits you throw at it the easier it will be. run out to the lagoon nebula and back or something.. you need to get your 1000ly sprint times to 26 minutes. at least.

None of the above lol
From Indonesia. How about you?

I'm just 1 degree north of you. Or an hour or so by plane.

Unfortunately I use Apple, but I have emailed the screenshots to Bucky, at least to qualify for an entry first :)

No problems... plenty of free image hosting solutions around. Imagur is one. Flickr is another. In a pinch you can use dropbox and/or google drive/skydrive etc.

As long as you have a place to upload files, you can upload pics.

I'd advise anybody who's really concerned about this to take a deep breath, relax, and keep the number of a good lawyer in your cockpit at all times. ;)

I keep my attorney actually in the cockpit at all times. Simples!

Perma-death racing? Actually that's actually not to different to the BBR A* - going back to the beginning is a bit much! Unless you're one of those two battling for the top spot (CMDR A lot I can remember and CMDR arrrraaayaahhhh.... Can't remember that one)
