They don't use dual screens.
Not talking about dev kits. Talking about the consumer versions.
They don't use dual screens.
I wouldn't be so sure about that. You only have to look at the Steam video card survey http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/ to see how long people hold on to graphics cards for (and I would assume the main reason is a financial one). Perhaps DX12 will be the incentive that is needed for more people to upgrade, an incentive that perhaps hasn't existed for a few years.
I wonder if this is one of the main reasons why ED has graphical performance issues for some people (stutter/stalls etc.), because FD are trying to cater for such a wide array of hardware - the min specs seem lower than for most games - but is that because ED is not that graphically intense compared to say GTA V, or because they want Joe Bloggs with a 10 year old laptop to be able to play it? One thing's for sure, you can bet your last penny that there will be no graphical performance issues for ED on the Xbox One, DX12 or not.
what setup gpu wise have you got. I have no stuttering. even the stutter from the jump loading screen has been vastly improved to almost none existence.
From what I understand DirectX 12 uses some of AMDs Mantle technology. So it's not like we are dealing with brand new stuff here.
Yeah but even the games that supported Mantle needed to be rewritten to support it, which is why not many developers took it up. Now Directx is another story altogether as it is supported by all manufacturers ot to mention that Microsoft have more influence on this type of thing than AMD will ever have.
What I'm getting at is that developers are seeing great improvements on existing hardware with DirectX 12. So don't think we all have to buy new gear. Xbox One will be using it too remember
With as well as it runs now I imagine DX12 support is low on their list of priorities. It's something I dearly want, since it would allow for advanced physics on the cheap, some truly dazzling remodels of the asteroid fields, touch-ups to the stations, etc.... but given that the game runs on the 5 year old hardware that a lot of players seem to be using Frontier is going to be afraid to touch it.
That's what option settings are for. Heck there could even be an option to run in DX12 or fall back to 11 if not supported. At any rate, 64 bit should havee higher priority, so that the game runs natively on the players' systems. No matter if people use Windows 7, 8 or 10, 90% are using 64 bit. And the adoption rate of Windows 10 is high. On Steam Win 10 64 bit is already at whopping 25%. Roughly a year from now we'll see another surge, when the free upgrade offer runs out. By that time the users who are waiting for the OS to mature will jump on.
probably not for several years. I suspect even most Xbox one games won't be supporting it for a couple of more years.
FWIW I know someone with knowledge of Direct X 12 and they said it's a bit of a quantum leap forward for gaming.
I would be delighted to see either Vulkan or DX12 based Elite: Dangerous in the future. Game is definitely one that could use the extra rendering power. Imagine denser asteroid fields, smoother multi-ship combat and more.
What are you talking about? Elite bairly even touches my rig as it is.
Well, in all fairness, your system is a far cry from average, as is mine. But we are a tiny minority in the playerbase.
