DirectX 12 support, any news?

David braben has been quoted as stating that this the the last Elite game he will release, and instead of new games we will see it evolve with new features added. With that in mind I would say that E: D will certainly get DX12 support, though i wouldn't expect it for a few years yet.

ED runs on Windows 10 tech preview absolutely fine.

Also Windows 10 preview runs fine on older machines and graphics cards. I loaded a spare PC with the first public release of Win 10 preview last autumn. I originally built it in March 2007 and it has a Core 2 Duo processor, 6 GB memory and a NVidia GTX 260 graphics card. I installed Archeage, a relatively modern game as a test and it ran perfectly.

Even if you have win10 with directx 12 installed doesnt mean it uses directx12 fully. The game engine would have to be redone to fully use DX12. I hope they are working on the upgrade.

I set up a GTX960 last night on a Win10 preview box. No drivers were included with Windows, but a quick trip to nvidia's website let me download 352.84 and that works as well as my existing Win7 system.

some ppl here think you can just copy and past Direct X 12 and every thing will magically work fine......

When they get round to upgrading in a few years (see my last post for details) I would be suprised if everyone doesn't have a DX12 compatble card already. :)

I wouldn't be so sure about that. You only have to look at the Steam video card survey http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/ to see how long people hold on to graphics cards for (and I would assume the main reason is a financial one). Perhaps DX12 will be the incentive that is needed for more people to upgrade, an incentive that perhaps hasn't existed for a few years.

I wonder if this is one of the main reasons why ED has graphical performance issues for some people (stutter/stalls etc.), because FD are trying to cater for such a wide array of hardware - the min specs seem lower than for most games - but is that because ED is not that graphically intense compared to say GTA V, or because they want Joe Bloggs with a 10 year old laptop to be able to play it? One thing's for sure, you can bet your last penny that there will be no graphical performance issues for ED on the Xbox One, DX12 or not.

if i understand dx12 correctly you can still use it to play dx10/11 games and take advantage of the mantle/multi GPU technology.

I'm interested in this one two! Can we have some official information please? :( I mean it's not a spoiler or anything, so please do tell :D

Unless you have newest card and Windows 10 with beafy setup, you aren't really that interested, trust me.

They will add DX12 render to engine at some time, but most likely they will stick for DX10 function set for long time to come.

No, game needs to use specific DX12 functionality to deliver on performance boost. No automatic conversation will happen.

No point for them doing that now. Even Windows 10 free update won't be used by majority of people. DirectX12 won't ever be dominant DX version, ever.

Always takes a while for the industry to pick up these new standards/versions from what I have seen. Perhaps after Win10 has been released and out for a while, gains significant market share then FD might look at it?

Yep absolutely, seeing as Windows 10 is being pushed to the Xbox as well I would have thought FD will support it at sometime in the future.

With the Rift and Vive using duel screens for VR, DirectX 12 will allow you to use separate graphics cards for each eye. Let the fun begin.
