Pawing at the Planetary Bell

You are doing an amazing job out there, commander, I am quite impressed.

My longest exploration was during the month of April. It was a success, I got enough to get my Imperial Clipper, but the whole experience left me sort of deflated, and I started to loose interest in the game. I ended up taking a break, and am getting back into it now with the new PowerPlay stuff. I plan to run back out into void when this first PP cycle flips over. I don't have too much far to get to elite, I would really like to get that.

Well, a post congratulating you on your many achievements Commander Katejina got sidetracked with my own whinging, but the first point stands. You are doing a wonderful job out there - and I am very impressed with your continuing stamina to keep you going on farther. I wish you all the best in your travels along the path you have laid out!

Looking at your path, looks like we'll be flying past each other at some stage. I'm currently getting near to the tip of the Sagittarius arm, before turning around and following it back towards the core, and the hanging a left to get back to civilised space.

I'll add you in game, would be cool to do a "fly by" int he same system if the opportunity arises!

Looks like an epic trip, CMDR!

Thanks! As I told Holiday last night, I am rather efficient at mindless, repetitive tasks. In other games, I can often be found mining, farming or otherwise doing the same thing day after day after day... What is the definition of insanity? Lol.

My planned route is ambitious. No doubt about that. But it is also perilous. My hull is already down to 90%. Lost 2% last night after failing to kill my throttle and dropping out of SC into a star. ~3500 systems to drop to 90%, but I am also running low on AFMUs. I imagine that I can travel rather safely from my current arm (Distant? Maybe far Perseus) and along the Carina arm, but once I cut in toward the core I'm going to have to be extremely cautious. Never gets uninteresting, exploring. I live for the kind of discoveries I made last night. I think a lot of that comes from the hope of E;D's future, the potential for planetary landings, etc. The dream I had Monday night also helped to reinforce those hopes. Always helps that the game is free, too, so I can come and go as I please.

Sounds good! I'm still having difficulty making that jump between the arms. I'm approximately halfway across but still have to backtrack a bit here and there. I'm hoping I can finally make it across today so I can resume my 1kly plotting. I should be approximately 1/2 or 3/4 up the arm by the time I get across, lol. I'll get that request accepted as soon as I'm home.

I might do some work on restructuring the OP, too. Spruce it up a bit maybe.

Nothing incredibly exciting tonight, except these two high metal content planets that were a mere 11Mms away from each other...

Also mind you that these were moons. Fairly odd.

What are you flying, and what's your range? Looking at your route, I hate to say it, but if you are below about 30Ly, it may be worth going back and trimming some excess mass from your ship.

*Hopefully* you've got at least 30Ly...

~30.35 with a full tank, about ~32.40 when near empty. Not the greatest, I know. I have a mining laser and cargo bay that I could have done without but I was curious about what kind of metals I would find in deep space. Didn't realize I would need a refinery too, though, so I'm not as laden as I could be.

The area is sparsely populated between the arms. If you look at my current route map, my current position has stars close enough that I've been able to cross over about 75% of the way but I am still having to backtrack a bit.

I did notice the backtracking - unavoidable, though. You should be ok with 30Ly jump range I find that that is about the limit when you start hanging out on the rims of the spiral arms. There are some areas that will forces you to fly double the actual distance you cover, but it's all good if your doing it for fun, not for speed.

Edit - just checked out your stream - what size fuel scoop do you have? I've yet to see it go over 100...

Double edit - I saw you peak at 170-something - that's a 3A scoop! Oh man, you're in for a long trip!

Well,Cornelius Lucious did his trip to core with a 3A, so it's not unheard of, though, if you manage the whole planned route, I think you'll go down as the only explorer in history to circle the galaxy with a 3A - I doubt anyone will do a trip like that again, seeing the amount of exploration information and personal exploration logs (and twitch streams) that is (and will be) out there!

Certainly hardcore, at the very least! On the positive side, you have a mining laser, which means you can blow stuff up. Something I ache for at times out here...

Haha. Not really much I can do with it, though. Just check for metals I cannot collect...

I'd be happy to just shoot rocks. Or... just shoot at the planet I am having to double scan! Oh,wait, can't shoot in SC. Never mind...

Stream is online! Forgot to post pics of last session. Nothing interesting besides this nearly invisible ring that almost got me.

Another mostly uneventful night. Broke 5k systems visited.

Found this 0.4-day/year orbit high metal content planet.

And this strangely patterned HMCP...

Back in more populated starspace. My movements shall be much hastier now.

Welp, I've got a year and a half to explore as much of the Milky Way as possible and then it's time to mvoe on to Andromeda...

THE HYPE IS REAL.
