The Powerplay discussion thread.

Your figures are wrong.
After 4 cycles the merits are lost completely, not just halved again.
With 5k per cycle (as example), you never get to 10k.

to clarify, the merits FROM 4 cycles ago are lost completely.

furthermore, the manual and other thigns posted have been ambiguous at best in terms of whether total merits or earned merits (as of that week) are carried over / decayed. simple math and following FD game design says it'll likely be merits earned that week only, which gives 5334 merits per week to earn 10k rating and sustain it.

but of course, the numbers are screwed up somehow anyway, the mods don't know and close threads where we discuss the various models and their implications, and FD won't (as usual) give us actual information or numbers, even though we'll figure it out in a week or two, because, heaven forbid, we actually KNOW something about what we're doing.

Youre right, forgot to account for that... this would make it even more difficult though. So 10k milestone is much more unreachable

Not taking Flavourless' info into consideration, that's almost 5 hours a night for 13 weeks straight (without missing a single day), doing the same thing over and over again.
What happens at 10000 merits? You get your own planet?

You get 50 mil in that week... But it doesnt matter, cause if you put that amount of time into say trading you would get it anyway.Even more.

Possible solution: if a 21st canister is dropped, then existing canisters of the same type become "combined" into a single canister holding multiple tons of commodity. Suspect that scooping dozens of canisters one at a time is not a fulfilling part of the game people would want to keep anyway...

Thanks for remaking the thread :)

The only places the limit should be in place are station instances, cz, res and nav beacons.

Piracy never happens in any of the above and stations, cz and res are prone to griefing if someone wants to drop 500t to lag people out.

A simple check to see if it's a player made instance and wave the limit and it's fixed.

This^^^^ Have some rep.

This is brilliant. Wish I could give more than 1 rep.

No. One of my favorite things to do is pirate in RES, and as it is a miner's haven now, no longer in the clutches of the bounty hunter, it deserves some pirate love.

If I can't turn a profit in a RES, NPC pirates shouldn't be able to either, and thus bounty hunters wouldn't go there because there'd be nothing there. Food chain, plain and simple.

Eh so far i found the game was just missions and getting paid, the only thing i think the game lacks is Story lines..i think they actually could do what was done in skyrim...have a main story and have missions with there own...it seems PP seems interresting..but seems like more of the same..though a good thing is atleast there is a little direction and even some personality..but still a game should have a story for some of us need that

I'll give this to powerplay, it made me embark on another deep space expedition to escape all the politics. I forgot how much I love exploration in elite. I'll be back in settled space in a couple of months, hopefully PP will be a bit more interesting by then. Oooo wassat? An ammonia world? Intriguing.... *beep beep boop boop*

Indeed.

I used to like exploring. I like it even more now. So much so, I changed my sig...

If any of you have not taken part in power play yet, here is a tip for you, do not bother!!!! You will lose credits, not make them... When other faction NPC's attack you get 400 credits for the kill, considering most of us put 30 million into the first part of the system, as you can clearly see it really is not worth it.

Well... Yeah. Powerplay is what you do when you want to spend credits on making change to the galaxy. That's sort of the point.

It's as if you're criticizing a cat for not playing fetch, because that's what dogs do, and you actually wanted a dog.

Which is fine, if you're a dog person, don't get a cat. Or to de-analogize: If you don't care about impacting on galactic politics, but want to focus on earning credits and getting better/more ships, then don't do powerplay stuff.

Personally, I'm halving my time up roughly 50/50. Half the time I'm grinding up to finish building my ship. The rest of the time, I'm winging up with some teammates in Open and undermining the Feds by taking out NPCs. It's a blast. ^_^

Powerplay has some perks, but they're just gimmicks. Making a change to the galaxy is meant to be the end in and of itself. But hey, if you're not enjoying that, then I'm sorry that this wasn't a meaningful update for you. But I and many others are having a blast with Powerplay.

A recent endeavour of my power/guild (Lavigny's Legion) was noticed on GalNet News, and I couldn't be more stoked about how Powerplay is tying into the rest of the media surrounding ED. ^_^

So there are three miners again. :)

If you do not like Power Play, there is always a fringe area to go to. I've done this, and have deliberately kept myself small-time. The game, for me, is more fun at the smaller end, with smaller ships, and less heartache. An hour of play, and I can go do something else.

I thought that if you weren't into powerplay, that you could just not pledge to anyone, and continue business as usual throughout the standard galaxy while ignoring all the politics.

PowerGrind is about bugs , bugs and bugs and only the PG bugs are the ones being fixed. If you chose to continue playing any other part of the game you are a second class citizen and your bugs are ignored.

Yeah, I agree completely on removing the limit except on stations and cz.
The increasing commodity price seems fair enough too.. boosts the income of a pirate, doesn't effect traders. Also boosts the income for Miners too.

I don't agree that piracy is crippled because of a 20-ton limit, as that's still a nice chunk of free cargo, but it does seem a rather artificial measure that could be lifted and instead fix the problem of intentional mass dumping in another manner.

From now on traders can only trade 20 cargo at a time.

not crippled. L O L

use solo to grind

than once you finish grind

you will have anaconda

what to do with anaconda? the same thing you did before! But faster!

Fast grind is good right? oh no.... well i guess that's why i barely log on.

Ok fair point. Stations and CZ should have the limit in place.
