Can the beta-backers have a little private meeting?

Not really. The main argument that has been here long before that sprang up is a lack of content for all players across the board, not just PvPers.

Thinking about it though, I think this arena combat module is the kind of thing that Star Citizen has embraced too; competitions, sports etc. It makes sense to have it in the future as it adds to the immersive living breathing world we were told about in DBs diaries, and having looked at the trailer it looks like immense fun (if we can trust the trailer, but that's another story ;)), so yeah it looks immense fun, packed full of great backdrops, new features, and high-octane content.

It looks like its got more going for it than exploration, which in comparison is one of the most shallow skill-less game mechanics I've ever seen outside of WoW. That's my personal issue with this. This xbone module looks like it'll be extremely fun and engaging gameplay, and a lot of work has gone into it. I hope the guys who made it are put to work now on giving exploration some equally challenging fun and skill, and some content other than the same old procedural systems we've been buzzing since November 22nd last year. To me, the 1:1 scale galaxy was Elite's shining example of how awesome this game was going to be, but at the moment it feels like it was the first thing FD abandoned.

In hindsight, CQC when its released to the PC backers, will at the very least be something completely new to try while they continue to wait for the galaxy as a whole to see some meaningful content and challenge added.

What they should of done is just had the offline mode they promised, having your commander locked to that mode.
No need for solo/private group/open mega threads no problem with none on open..

Like you said they have a shining gem of a procedurally gen universe, it is well within their scope to include landings, terrain etc.....selling lifeforms exploring!!

But no...we get wings, powerplay and arena the first to should of been in game already the latter is just a cop out for no content and to appease ms..

I stopped playing when Witcher 3 came out, I came back on for a couple of eves to check out powerplay but to little to late.

I hate to say but I have lost faith in the game, those who do look to the sky and cry "just give us a sign!!!" But we get nothing. it could of been the game you play forever but like so many have said before you can only paddle so far out on the knee deep ocean before you get bored.

Just wanted to add the pain soon goes away and once you start playing other games again ED falls to the back of your mind and you can start slowly leading a normal life again. you feel quite refreshed actually. I know it hurts but time is the healer :)

Make the existing game a lot better at the same time as introducing new, optional, board games and arena modes. To me it feels like we're getting new stuff (which has been of zero interest to me personally) so far. I realise I don't speak for everyone, of course, but there is a significant deep feeling that the core game needs more. They are slowly doing it, but it's too slow (again IMHO) when you factor the effort that has gone into these additions.

Powerplay - don't care, I can (and am) ignoring it... but happy for it to be in the game for others. Ditto CQC. But it feels like they're slowing down and/or changing the direction of the "basic" game. Basically bolting these things on instead of (rather than as well as) improving the core.

That's the main thing for me too. I want the stuff from the ddf. I feel like they've sidelined all that stuff for Powerplay and CQC neither of which was in the ddf.

If I was a pure pve player I'd be even more angry as the current mission content and mechanics are woefully lacking.

I have to say I agree with both of you. We've had two major updates from my perspective - Wings and Powerplay - and about to get CQC and this is where my head is at:
.
Wings - good update, and expected group play as part of the design. Unfortunately I personally get very little benefit from it as none of my friends play...
.
Powerplay - in and of itself, not a bad update. Problem is I find it to be of relatively little benefit to me - I'll never make rank 4 or 5 with my chosen Power, and not sure I can be bothered even with the relatively small grind to get rank 3 when the weapon bonus is pretty 'meh'. So on top of this one not being a feature I was backing Elite for, it seems I'll get so little out of it and find myself asking 'what's the point?' I might as well go back to being an independent pilot.....
.
CQC - again, on it's own it will likely be a good update for what it will be. But again, like Powerplay, not a feature I was backing Elite for. Sure, a lot of people will get something from it just as with Powerplay, but I'm over online PvP because in my experience it is usually he who has the least lag that wins, not he with the most skill. Not interested in online PvP when it's never a level playing field for me to begin with due to internet quality. So something I didn't back Elite for in the first place and another feature I'll get little or no benefit from in all likelihood.
.
Instead of developing Powerplay and CQC at this point, I too would have preferred to see more development of things we backed for. Why on earth have we not seen NPC wingmen before Powerplay (and potentially before CQC I suppose)? Why did we not see more meaningful consequences of crime long before now? Why have we not seen things like passenger carrying missions or missions that require travel beyond a single system away? Because resources have instead been focused on Powerplay and CQC? Simplistic way of looking at it, sure, but there was so much potential just in the DDF/DDA that I struggle to work out where the priorities lie now. Again, it's not that these are bad gameplay additions - just not additions that many of us backed for and certainly not additions that benefit ALL players equally.
.
I just hope that Frontier have gotten the message from the responses to both Powerplay and CQC that when it comes to the paid expansions the content had better benefit everyone because if a paid expansion does something like Powerplay and CQC and only benefits certain proportions of the playerbase.......

All joking aside, how can FD possibly 'listen to the beta-backers'

Simple, they don't listen. Not unless they do something so stupid that the entire beta forums erupt. Which happened like once. Every other time, they just ignore us and port it over to the main game anyway.

Having CQC released on XB1 for initial testing and then porting it to PC later does not phase me to be honest...
Releasing ED for less than full price for XB1 beta testers, does not phase me either although it does devalue (IMHO) the products we beta testers did buy originally by a lot given we had to buy the full game and then buy beta access to it so I can fully appreciate some people being miffed by this...

What does phase me somewhat is that it seems we still have a number of issues in the current live game and no mention from FDev if those issues are still being worked on (I can only assume they are but you know what they say about making assupmtions right...)

What does annoy me somewhat is real the lack of new in game content (I DO NOT MEAN POWERPLAY), I mean in ways we can interact in the universe, by that I mean, things explorers can discover that have some more meaning than oh another planet and this one has rings how quaint... Content with stories developing from their discoveries (like the alien artifacts etc) NPC's that are part of the powerplay stories which players can interact with and by doing so may also become part of the powerplay stories : read this as Tier 2 or 3 NPC's that are persistant until destroyed or when interacted with may give special missions to a player who then on completion of the mission gets a mention in the galnet news for that power etc...

CQC seems a lot more in the spirit of ELITE than Powerplay to me, but we're all going to have a different idea of what ELITE is depending on where and when we encountered it. I think it would have sweetened the XBOX exclusive pill if Powerplay had been a bit deeper and more exciting.

Personally, I'm going to dip in and out of ELITE when I fancy -- it's still fun -- but I'll wait for Thargoids or Planetary Landings or whatever before I start properly sinking time into it again.

EDIT: It might calm things down a bit if they did give us a bit more info on their plans for the game over the rest of the year. Although I understand why they don't want to do this.

I'm gonna go with A. This game has so much that was broken by 1.3 and hasn't been resolved (been on the bug page lately?), and instead of resolving said issues, they've been developing some exclusive arena commander mode for another system. I thought Xbox was going to join our universe and then FD would be developing for all of us, not this dinky with an arcade mode. Also, didn't Braben say this game would never be an arcade mode? If that's true, why are they taking development/bug fixing power AWAY from the game in order to develop and release ARCADE MODE?
There's a patch out today with some fixes. :)

There's a patch out today with some fixes. :)

One of the questions is, can we take a company unable to make a working simple quest system seriously ?
Bugs are to be expected, I'm fine with it. But the bugs are very often about the core mechanisms of the game and take an inordinate amount of time to get fixed. At the moment, I can't level my faction and am barred from buying specific ships because I'm not getting mission rewards. It's not a bug in a heavily scripted complex event that I could understand, it's a basic game mechanism that is broken. In ED, quests don't work, 6 months after release.

When did we, the collective group of backers, become expects in marketing, finance, software development and game designed speaking in one unified voice and direction?

This forum is full of backseat experts on everything from Anaconda Paint jobs should be just a copy-paste of the other ships code, to People giving their opinion of the financial status of Frontier Development now based on some report that had issued in 2014 for the 2013 - 2014 financial year.

Then there are dooms sayers that pick apart every announcement or every lack of announcement to be the end of the civilised world

People screaming over every change, in every direction.

How in the nine heavens is anyone expected to wade through all that noise and find reasonable and constructive feedback and demonstrate they are listening to it in a way that makes all us special snowflake backers feel validated.

Do we not remember the absolute vitriol that comes when ever they change something.
FAOFF no longer being max speed no engine pips forever? A Toxic Community

And then we are ever so "we want this" but as soon as we get it "no we don't want it"

We have threads asking for more dynamic markets, but as soon as we get price fluctuations "FDev is shadow nerfing all the fun out of the game"

Do you know what they should do

They should switch off the server

Try to log in and you just get a message

Too bad everything they do is wrong...
So we stopped doing things.

And be done with it.

Hey and I am a Backer so I must have some Magic power that lets me harp on like some spoiled child and only my entitled opinion matters anyway

I think consoles and CQC is a good thing for ED.

That said, I brought into the expectations FD gave during the Kickstarter and Dev Diaries and I don't feel any of the new content follows the vision I was sold. Due to FD's silence during this time, I'm not even sure if they plan to deliver on the game promoted to the backers during the kickstarter.

Perhaps you should read up about schizophrenia before you use it in this derogatory fashion in a thread starter. People with schizophrenia have a hard enough time of it without the associations implied by your post.

There we have it, the start of number four (4) says it all.
PvPers didn't want it - but don't want anyone else to have it either.
This is EXACTLY what I said in the Open mega thread. Some of you just want to mindlessly pew pew defenseless haulers and nothing more.

No you completely misunderstood. We didn't want development time going in to a bolt on when it could be used making the normal game better for everyone. Npc wings for hire has been long over due and I think that should be a top priority since 1.2 even though I'm a pvp open player.

I feel the same way about powerplay as well. They could have got the economy and background simulator working better instead of a bolt on where people grind for merits.
