So shocked! But why not just let us just play with them and make it a giant Open, Solo and Groups thing.

From the interview between DBOBE and Arstechnica at E3:

On that last point, Producer Ben Dowie reiterated that Xbox One and PC players won’t be playing head-to-head—although they’ll be playing in the same simulated universe, they’ll never encounter each other in space, likely because Microsoft’s Xbox patch cycle adds complexity to Frontier’s game update procedure. This means that PC players and Xbox players will often wind up on different clients, which means no head-to-head play. To that end, anticipated PC-centric features will likely land on PC first.

So shocked! But why not just let us just play with them and make it a giant Open, Solo and Groups thing. It just seems redundant to exclude us and them.

It would halt updates to the PC as they'd have to wait until the XBox updates were approved by Microsoft. By keeping them separate updates on the PC will continue as they have been.

Which has been bloody awesome. Might not be the development direction I'm hoping for all the time, but we definitely see development.

Sharing the world with XBox would delay that. A lot.

If it helps I believe DB said at one point that ideally he'd like us to play together with xbox peeps - but it seems it's not possible for technical or some other reason.

Up to you but at some point you might want to let it go really..

As far as I am aware, it is Microsoft who stop cross play. Seen other game devs make snide remarks when it is a game that could do it.

Seriously, the PC/Mac world and MS/SONY/console world cannot mix, especially in this game. Firstly, there are already mentioned technical reasons like patching and secondly, those two worlds are simply different. Different in player age, in-game language, playing habits etc.

You can see it in forums from other games. Even the single player games, like Skyrim. The peoples playing console Skyrim are totally different from peoples playing Skyrim on PC.

Yes, it is possible. But point is, that players playing Final Fantasy XIV (or better to say players playing Final Fantasy I - XIV) are different species from different dimension, regardless of used hardware. They are living example of post-human evolution :)

P.S. I hope that moderator will not take this as an insult. Actually, I like Final Fantasy players, because from my childhood I hoped that someday, I will meet the ETs. :)

There are all different styles. I could imaging a COH player going into another game and demanding to know why they can't kill everyone

Right, lets add some source martial on the current info;

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/...-e3-xbox-exclusives-and-qa-with-david-braben/

Some highlights from the article;

CQC takes place separate from the main game universe and is intended to be a quick join, quick action PvP matchmaking mode where players can jump and get immediately to action. To that end, players don’t play CQC with their own ships, but rather with a limited selection of four small ships: the Eagle, the Sidewinder, the Viper, and the newly playable Federal Fighter (which executive producer Ben Dowie said was his favorite).

“There is more free stuff to come, but I don’t want to pre-announce what they are!” laughed Braben. “But, yes, there are paid things to come as well. I’m very, very excited about where we are.” Braben was unfortunately cagey on actual upcoming features we might see, but he did re-confirm that both the planetary landings and walk-around-the-ship mode were coming—and, importantly, that those features would come to PC first.

Of course, more to the overall thread topic;

And regarding how to play the game;

I pointed out that there’s frequent contention online about the “right” way to play, be it casual or hard-core, and Braben agreed. “But there shouldn’t be a ‘right’ way,” he said. “You should do what makes you excited. I don’t want there to be a ‘right’ way, because then you’re not necessarily playing the way you want to play. And people have come up with lots of suggestions, some of them very constructive and sensible, and we do listen, and people hopefully have seen that we’ve changed things and adjusted things, but not in a way—we hope!—to upset people. We’re doing it to make the game better!”

To highlight something from that above quote;

“You should do what makes you excited. I don’t want there to be a ‘right’ way, because then you’re not necessarily playing the way you want to play."

So, can people NOW! accept that the game is not broken, it is not a bad design, FD did not mess up.

THIS IS HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE.

Search this thread for some hard statistics. One of them is that 70% of players play in open.

What...

It was a forum pool. And, like any forum pool, completely informal and biased. You want a hard statistic, get Frontier to share the ones they indubitably have.

As an example of why forum pools can't be trusted (and sorry for those that read this the previous times I've posted it), roughly a year ago Turbine released some info on the forum bias when it comes to players that engage in either PvP or raiding. Among the ones that post in the forums, they were over 50%; when taking into account the whole player base, they were less than 10%.

So, do you think it would ever be possible for a forum pool that was even tangentially related with PvP to give a correct result there? Or here, for what matters?

I figure that, since there's new names here from the Merge of the Megas that this info could use a refresh:

I've read a couple (or more) comments here about FD not listening (reading threads) on this topic. There is one that they definitely DO read, and that's the Vox Populi thread about these issues. There's a catch; you only get one post, so you'll need to compose and edit it for clarity; best done offline then copypasta.

Make your voice be heard on this topic. But make it good!
