SHAME ON ME.

Five minutes ago I've destroyed mrTree UA while scooping it with my Scout, in the usual way I scoop every time. Thousands of canisters I've scooped. At 15 speed I was, perfectly centered it was. And it exploded.

SHAME ON ME.

I'll be hunting that thing to give it again to MrTree, that was SO KIND to thrust me.

I'm SORRY with all of you CMDRs.
I will not write on this thread until I've found an UA for MrTree.

Just one last question: does anybody knows if the Scout has issues while scooping with landing gear down?! I did it just to be even much slower... as I've seen that a lot of you does it like that, in your recordings...

Oh hell, YES it does! :(
I tried scooping with landing gear down and each SAP8 was going boom the first time.
As soon as I realised it was the landing gear and retracted it, scooping worked fine.
Thankfully I was trying to get the SAP8's first or it would have been the UA going boom. Bad luck on your part.

Also when I nudge a container or canister, I make sure I'm at 5m/s or less. The damage is only a few single digit %.

Hey i found another one \o/

Sorry, i know it's probably in poor taste considering the recent loss but i had just finished the sculpting when it happened and i didn't want it to go to waste.

Sadly they handle the rigors of my meaty hands about as well as the vacuum of space.

Night of Death :(
I'm back hunting as well. Rocked SSS around 5 hours today, 1 more and I'll hit the bed. Only interesting thing was a T9 escorted by two Anacondas, transporting some technology stuff and one antique thingy. Nothing to do with the UA though.

Welp, we just had an inadvertent test of this. While trying to switch to the Orca for testing, rizal was trying to help hold the UA temporarily. There was an... incident. Let's just say that a Diamondback Scout moving at 15m/sec is enough to knock a UA from 89% health to 9% health & then dead. Video (no sound due to driver weirdness, but it was a normal explosion sound):

Back down to 1 UA, folks. Here's your chance to test to see if the servers will drop one shortly.

Me? I'm going to go find some Lavian Brandy to wallow in.

Could you tell us which system this was in? I want to examine if anything happens to it.

LFT 926, near the A star. The only station in the system is Meredith City. It's pretty far from the known plague systems, but we'll see?

Yes, I've noticed that gear just in front of the Scoop, later...
So Double Shame on me, because I've recently sold my Cobra for a Silent Scout, and I never scooped with it before...
So stupid of me!
I've seen so many video of other UA bearer dropping down their landing gear to slow down their ships while scooping, and I thought "nice, I play this game since day one and I'm learning new things every: I must do that too to be sure to not destroy that precious thing!".
Fool.

Its not a problem - its just more data for the wiki - and it was in an inhabited system, which is worth watching and I'd bet a mini Picnic bar - which I'm about to eat - that another UA turns up within 24 hours - which will also be interesting.

In my Python the deployed cargo scoop slows the ship down by the same amount as the deployed landing gear, and limits it to the same lower top speed. Don't know if other ships work differently though.

i have been following the thread for a while out of curiosity.
But I don't have the time to play and get actually involved in solving the puzzle, so here is an idea.
First, I don't think that FD is actually giving us all the hints without having anything that backs it up. Therefore the obvious hint is not so obvious but still leads to something.

Has anyone tried doing something with the artifact and a biowaste container.? (cargo hold, releasing together, etc.)
They both react the same with the ship, and they may also react similarly to each other. Maybe throw a SAP 8 in. The theory is that the biowaste may damage the artifact/SAP-8 and release whatever is inside.

It would be obvious enough and yet doesn't seem as it has been tried. At least a search on the thread and wiki articles didn't hold the information that it has been tried.

This do?

Ugh =(

That's bizarre, a 15m/s scoop on target should be fine. Can't help wondering if Diamondback should be marked as risky.

If you guys come to a conclusion can you stick it in the "Taking care of your UA" section of the wiki : http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Unknown_Artefact#Taking_care_of_your_new_UA

It's all useful data, even a loss. =(

Yeah, never use the landing gear to scoop. The cargo hatch rescales your throttle (maxing out around 80? 100? Something low). YOUR PENANCE SHALL BE SCOOPING 1000 TOXIC WASTE CANISTERS WHILE REPEATING "MAY THE THARGOIDS HAVE MERCY" OVER COMMS!!!

...Just kidding. :D Live & learn, right?

I've scooped plenty of cargo with my DBS & it's fine, not dangerous. The problem is it's a tricycle landing gear & the nose gear is directly in front of your hatch. That would make scooping impossible, as it did for Riz@l. Add to that the fact I was above him (to stay out of the way), so I never saw his gear were out.

besides the (intended?) typo of bacteriophage - LOL!
.
How big would be that bacteria? Maybe that space amoeba from Start Trek would be its host
deg3D_ZOD_1956.jpg
But hell, why not. Or it spits out these phages, genetically engineered to infect humans?

A look at the plague idea from a slightly different angle ;) ...

After much exhaustive research and a few beers ... this is what i got

well ... a realllly big one

Can't rep you again - but you deserve it for the effort you've put in.

I just don't buy the idea that they're targeted at us/here to do us harm.

Oddly, though, I do buy the idea that they might combat the Cerberus plague.

would fit for them, atleast they tried to be friendly with us before, even when we killed them a few times.

This reminds me of the "Gap" Series of books by Stephen Donaldson.
The Alien race (Amnion) in the books uses RNA / DNA manipulation to store and communicate information.

Side query : Is their a "Billingate" or "Enablement Station" or "Thanatos Minor" in the game?
