Some key points if you don't wanna watch.

  • SRV(Surface Recon Vehicle) is tiny compared to the ship. =)
  • Multiple types of SRV
  • All ships can carry SRVs, not all ships can carry all SRVs
  • Buy Horizons and "you get an entire season worth of content", I think this is essentially going to be a yearly "fee" for new things
  • Season content includes "loot"?
  • Cobra IV isn't "pay to win" as you still have to buy it in game - ok =p
  • Mk IV, Braben calls it "better", Sandro says no ship is "better". IV has better weapon placement, +1 hardpoint but has tradeoffs, doesn't destabilize the game
  • What does the Americanism holiday mean? Thanksgiving and xmas!
  • SRV is a module, buy SRV + buy module
  • CQC assets will be used in main game

Well said, I would rather be out of the way ;)

Human affairs are a distraction from the greater mysteries of the universe!

Get the lifetime pass Arcanonn, you know you want it. ;-)

Heck, they should give you one for services rendered to the UA, and all the free marketing they got out of it. Ditto for Erimus and his explorations and community galactic mapping enterprise, and Surly Badger for the Fuel Rats.

Hah! The second I read the first line, I was going to reply and suggest those 2 others as well. I think it's a great idea, should post it on the Horizons thread where it'd likely get read.

Good summary, Sir!

* Buy Horizons and "you get an entire season worth of content", I think this is essentially going to be a yearly "fee".
* Season content includes "loot"?

For both points: "Season 2" is more correct, IMHO.

P.S.
This "Show" they had better made in a luch break for two weeks in Cambridge with audio only ...
But it is always nice to see people congrats each other total detached from real world influence and questions.

Cheers for this.

Also liked the following from the main site:

The first expansion, Planetary Landings introduces players to planet surfaces and the first all-new Surface Recon Vehicle (SRV) the ‘Scarab’. Scanning airless planets and moons brings new gameplay as players detect signals, crashed ships, mineral deposits, outposts and fortresses. Alone or with friends players will explore, mine and engage hostile forces as they attempt to infiltrate strongholds guarding valuable rewards. Players will explore new worlds, coasting over mountaintops, diving into canyons, landing on the surface and rolling out onto the surface in your SRV, all without loading times or breaks in gameplay.

so:
- wreckage to explore
- mining
- outposts, and fortresses
- surface, and surface with air-support combat
- genuine terrain
- seamless! yay!

So, has anyone tried taking a UA to the surface of all 1 trillion+ planets yet?

Someone had to say it..

Aye.

I think generally Frontier would like to pursue a pay monthly model but they recognize that the players would never accept it given how ED was funded.

So I suspect Frontier is therefore going down a sort of halfway house route with 6 monthly or yearly content seasons (with the emphasis on content) that may or may not include significant gameplay additions. In this instance it's clearly tied to planetary landings.

OK so here you go :

The content and features are done in seasons, with the current game being essentially the first season. Elite Dangerous: Horizons will be the second season, so if you purchase that you get all the content and features for that season. There will then be other seasons which have different content and features - although as we've only just announced the next season they're a bit far away to talk about!

So don't think about paying for features, think about paying for seasons.

From what I'm reading there I think buying Horizons does not guarantee you will get, for example, atmospheric landings. If those are completed in the current "season" you will get them, if not you wont. The notion of "expansion" is being blurred.

Essentially the builder you got in to sort your new kitchen out, is not being paid to complete the job, he is being paid on a per month basis.

Which really is the sort of terms you should never employer a builder on since the job will then take twice as long to complete while you pay twice as much! But there isn't much choice as the builder is dictating the terms here.

"We want to take our time and do things properly" they say in the Twitch stream linked somewhere above... (paraphrased)

Happy with my £120 lifetime I think now, not terms as good as the Kickstarter sure but I don't think I trust this builder and his time-based contracts. =p

Posted it onto the latest "Ask David" thread. Just to embarrass all three of them primarily. ;-)

If anyone wants to walk around seeing stars in charged atmosphere, just slip "oh the lifetime expansion is £120" into a conversation at home. Will there be an annual subscription to some of these expansions too?

Arrrggggh off topic.......I blame the UAs

DECODING THE UA SOUNDS/CRIES USING BINARY CODED DECIMAL
*

REPRESENT THE PURRS AS BINARY NUMBERS
*

Example:

Generally I find purrs in groups of fives, if we represent a purr either as High=1 and Low=0, we can represent a group of purrs as the following binary number 11001.

REPRESENT HOWLS AS ZEROS
*

Example:
If we assume the howls to be a group of three zeros, we will add one leading zero to our 5 digit binary number (11001 in our previous exmple) and two trailing zeros to the same binary number, so we end up with 0 11001 00.

REPRESENT THE BINARY NUMBER AS BCD
*

We then have an eight digit binary number 01100100. If then we represent this number as BCD, we end up with 0110 0100.
The following is a decoded recording using this method.
*

BCD DECIMAL TEXT
*

8421 8421

0110 0100 10 J
0101 1000 13 M
0100 1000 12 L
0011 0000 03 C
0001 0000 01 A
0110 0100 10 J
0010 1100 14 N
0011 0100 11 K
0001 0100 05 E
0110 0100 10 J
0010 0100 06 F
0101 0100 09 I
0101 1000 08 M
0110 1100 18 R
*

The two digit number in front of the letter is the decimal representation of the BCD binary number, when I copied paste into the message I lost the formatting.
*

Unfortunately I have not yet been able to find a pattern with the letters, working on this at the moment, any help would very much welcomed.

So essentially you would have no clue what you were actually buying after the first big content of the "season". If anything at all other than maintenance patches...

I think spending a day chatting about the patch is cool. I mean nice break innit, something concrete to actually think about.

@Tony H.

Just a FYI, from my investigations... If two CMDRs are viewing one UA they hear different purrs.

Different purrs or the same ones just on a time delay due to network and P2P related issues? if they are out of sequence they may seem different but effectively the network "pressed play" at a different time.

Aye quite possibly, all the above btw was just my interpretation of all this.

I *believe* different ones, as in I could see no correlation.

I also think I am the only one who's investigated and reported on this, I have asked others to look and please confirm but to my recollection no-one ever has taken the time to do so. So really you've just got one person saying this and everything else is hearsay.

What do you think?

These videos are synced, that will be obvious at about 4 mins in when someone talks.

Star Trek Online calls each major update a season and within it there were weekly updates to the story/content. It's safe to assume that Season is a major update call it Elite Dangerous 2.0 or 3.0... the further updates are the builds 2.1, 2.2, 3.4, 3.7 in other words the non paid stuff.
