Without wanting to get involved in anything acrimonious on this I though it might be informative if I went back through the polls and collected some anonymous statistics on my previous votes:

Of the last 17 polls I've voted in 16. Over those 16 polls I've voted for 26 different drabble writers broken down as follows:
Voted for Once:15
Voted for Twice5
Voted for Three Times:3
Voted for Four Times:1
Voted for Five Fives:2

Wow! A frequency chart! I have to have a go at compiling my own voting history...

Voted for Once:not a Scooby's
Voted for Twicehaven't a clue
Voted for Three Times:what day is it?
Voted for Four Times:I can't remember
Voted for Five Fives:Half past two

It might be fun to do a double-blind test some week. Not only should the voters be anonymous but the Drabbles themselves. It would involve handing the Drabbles over to a poll host who could be trusted.

And, ahem, er, any ideas who that might be, Frank? :D Actually, it's rather a good idea, could be fun. Thought: Some drabblers might be recognisable from their writing style, or perhaps their vocabulary???.

Oops, I messed up the quote thingy.

If people feel that someone's writing style is a vote winner then they are free to imitate it <grin> It would probably reduce the number of sharting Drabbles.

People here might see me as being some sort of paragon of virtue. All it means is that they're not willing to pay my asking price. I'd be more than willing to forfeit my voting rights to try out an anonymous week, but if we were to go ahead with the idea then I think Psykokow would be the better host as he's better connected than I am. This would definitely be more of a factor if the Fantastic writers decided they wanted to see how they would fare against us.

That would be good for the environment.

I have to report my shock and horror at your denial of being a paragon of virtue, Frank. Who am I going to look up to now :S:S:S

I see what you mean about sacrificing voting rights - that would be essential for the host who knew who was who. Not being able to vote in such an experiment would be frustrating to say the least.

A suspicious life....

I felt around for a pulse, nothing, chances are he'd been dead for weeks, the airless environment preserving the body despite the working remlock.
it wasn't asphyxiation that had killed him.
I released the straps holding him to the cockpit pilots seat grabbing hold as his body started to float upwards, the rotation of the craft providing a small centripetal force.
I checked for laser fire, nothing, in fact all my tests came up negative, there wasn't a mark on the body.
It soon became clear what killed him if not how when three ships appeared on my scanner.

Pirates...

THE CURE?
The water, so dark blue almost black.
Only a degree above freezing and calm as if a lake not a sea.
The turquoise sloop slid as if it were motionless and the planet moving instead at it's bidding.
No ships but these navigate this part of the world.
Space ships sink on the floes here.
Is the quest almost complete?
Seventy-three stations, 48 worlds led me here to an Elder who holds the secret so many seek?
Flickering glow ahead breaks my concentration.
An ice floe with a lone silhouetted stooped figure.
Does he really have the cure for MODs?

The all-consuming emptiness - no signs of life

One self-blip, lonely on scanner.

Power failing. The ships lights flickering, danced around the softening static hum of the radio. He was aimlessly drifting in deepspace - days past Hutton now, maybe weeks. The joyful sound of children crying, a long and distant memory.

Mixing salt-water tears to the ships panel sent an occasional jolt of electricity through his body. He welcomed having a feeling of any kind.

He slumped back in his chair reminiscing, whispering to himself.
"Tammy sharted" - a small smile cracked onto his sullen face.

Sighing - "Give the people what they want." And thats when Simoof killed Simoof.

Simoof has sacrificed himself for the sake of the viewers. Just to be on the safe side, I've rolled a massive stone in front of his tomb. I've riveted it in place and encased the entire structure in concrete. I'll also be standing outside the tomb with a machine gun on the third day.

Machine gun? Thats a bit much.

Can you bring tea and biscuits?

No.

And I just read moose666's drabble. It rather effectively negated the 16 times I killed Moofer.

I'm sad now.
But it's got my vote, and my +rep. "And my sword. And my bow. And my axe."

And now I just read Simoof's, and I laughed a lot. :)

Drabbles are 100 words, should be clean (so Frank's ears don't bleed), set loosely in the Elite universe, and if you have trouble counting, use our standard word count benchmark here: www.wordcounter.net

Cleonymus, your drabble is lacking 1 word.

And I'm in low orbit, hover-mode, with all weapons trained on the tomb :D

Machine gun? Thats a bit much.

Just don't try to protect yourself with your hands. The bullets will pass through the holes in your palms... What am I saying!? DO try to protect yourself with your hands.

Darkoba, I'll keep a Semi-Active Laser Homing Beam targeted on the front of the tomb.

No it won't ...
I'll get one vote
Kow, Simoof & Mr Winnard will write amusing drabbles that finish in the middle as far as votes go
Frank, Insanephoton and Edith_The_Hutt will finish near the top or even win.

It's too prdictable with how people vote ... and then they complain if someone makes it a bit more interesting when the opportunity arises.

EDIT: And yes, I voted for myself and made it a 9-way tie on purpose. I could have some interesting topic titles, but we'll never know because the same people keep voting for the same people

Alien watch me wave my magic wand about whilst cheerfully muttering the phrase "Your wish is my command!"

I am going to host an anonymous Drabble contest next week sometime. If anyone wants to take part just Private Message me a 100-word story set in the Elite Galaxy about the topic of Democracy. Anyone who wants to take part who is unaware of exactly what a Drabble is just check the first ever post way way at the top of this thread. This contest will be especially good for newcomers who may be too embarrassed to take part in the full game as I can keep your identity a secret, even after the voting is over. Anybody who wishes to take responsibility for a Drabble afterwards has to just claim liability and I'll conform or deny culpability.

The only people who will know which Drabble you've written are you, me, and whoever leaves two barrels of Palladium at the back of Lave Station.
