View me within it, but not with clutter on the screen. Camera drone, yes fine, explain the fiction however you wish, it matters not to me - just as long as the final view you get is "clean" and not projected onto some little pretend monitor in the first person cockpit, or something naff like that.
I'll clarify the "Proposed Behaviour" (in the OP) to include that. It's what most people will want IMHO and I wasn't explicit about it!
They've said no to true 3rd person flying, agreed, and I wouldn't want that either. They've said they are considering means to obtain nice external views for screenshots, movies etc (I believe). So we're here discussing ways that could be implemented.
Sadly you're right though in that FD don't have a good track record of compromise to fit all gameplay desires. The designers have a set view of "how it should be" and are generally unwilling to budge much from that. Yes I know, "we're making the game we want to play" but it is sad that it's deviating more and more from a game I want to play.
In nutshell I suggest to wait till they implement camera drone (which seems quite likely at this point) and then discuss it further. At this point we really beating same drum and it just adds to the noise
I would prefer to see an external (not chase) view available all the time except when in combat.
No delay and no effect on sensors.
It's literally just for switching to and gawping at your ship, or for some, making films.
I think a camera drone is just unneeded extra work, most sims have these views anyway.
I have DCS flight sims, X3, Silent hunter on my pc and I use it a lot when I play as being able to see my vessel really adds to the immersion.
I also use fly-by views a lot.
Personally I think not having this moves the sim more towards an arcadey feel, which I don't like.

The problem I believe with this is what do you define as "combat"? When you're shooting? When you've recently shot? When you've been shot? When you've recently been shot at?
Hardpoints deployed maybe?

Again, I'm not saying "we're right!", I'm just explaining the reasoning behind our choices.
In truth, there is still a long way to go and still a lot of change possible.

Yes, there's a number of threads all talking about this issue - Indeed with the same points over and over , the same issues over and over and the same answers... over and over...
Hence we now have a single post (the OP in this thread) aimed at summarising the issues/solutions. Seems a logical approach to me.
If you're not interesting in participating, simply unsubscribe; Far more polite than giving people orders who are making an effort to be constructive!
My suggestion was, and still is, just post in this thread if you have a considered issue or solution... I will attempt to keep the OP to a summary.
