The Planetary landing and planetside missions discussion Thread

Yeah thanks. It was literally their opening statement when they announced the release of Horizons that it would include airless worlds only. I guess sacastic/tounge in cheek comments don't translate well in forums even if you do use a winking smiley face at the end of a ridiculous statement.

I've seen too many people being clueless in earnest that I don't assume a "tongue in cheek" statement. Also, a smiley can mean a myriad of things, including an apologetic "Sorry, that I don't know".

Nope. You cannot land on planets with atmospheres. That is scheduled to occur on the time scale of Someday™...rather than Soon™.

With FD love of science and astronomy I would bet money on it. It may come later in the season since even though there is no "air" on the planet I believe in the Elite lore the earth moon is habituated by human colonies by 3301 time period.

I'd expect a huge exclusion zone with robotic guns to keep anyone from interfering with the site. After all, just the reaction mass from a flyover would disturb the footprints. It'd be an important human heritage site, not a tourist destination.

Fair comment. It was the myriad of clueless statements in the past that warranted me to make a stupid comment. It was quite frustrating when we were watching the live stream of creating a world in Horizons and they were trying to do a Q&A on that subject and it was being spammed with "Will we be able to land on Earth?". I mean how do you get as far as knowing a live stream is being hosted and not known the most basic of knowledge on Horizons?

Can you land on earth in the new expansion or not all planets are laudable?

Will there be civilizations on certain planets?

Until they introduce planetary landing on planets with atmosphere... You get a very big fan, then blow away the atmosphere until there's nothing left and all the water boils in to space or freezes. You then have an airless planet on which to land.

However, knowing how things go, you will, even in future when they introduce landing in an atmosphere, require an unobtainable permit to land on Earth.

Chances are it'll never happen!

Planetary Landing - Vehicles

Hi Frontier,
I was wondering if you'll be releasing multiple Vehicles to explore the vast moons and planets. If you are doing this can you please give us different types of land vehicles like speeders and motorbikes.

what does everyone else think, got any ideas?

what back seat drivers.... no thanks unless we can have ejector seats

Nice idea but I think a lot of players would prefer driving and shooting their own buggies than just driving while a gunner having all the fun.

I personally just want a motorbike styled vehicle placed into the game, it could be a tri which can be man or programmed to be used by the rider for solo play, same with the speeder really.

Motor bikes on an airless rock with low gravity, don't think so. Makes more sense to have a single standardised all terrain model ground vehicle, just my opinion.

Could use a life support system like the ships at the moment? might be a more popular choice for plaents rather than moons :/

They did confirm in one of the streams there will be various types of SRV's available, but not for Horions launch immediately. No word on "SRV-bikes".
