Braben + Cobra + Docking video

Not really, we can't complain about them not doing enough PR for ED AND at the same time expect to get everything first hand.

Having "exclusive" content for the media is a huge incentive for them to write articles. If FD puts out everything themselves through Dev Diaries then it still might be written about, but if a magazine/website/show knows they have something truly new on their hands it's more likely they are going to make a big deal out of it.

I fully expect FD to give more exclusives to the press going forward and I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

Having said that...the Alpha better be released today!!!!! *shakes fist into the air*

Thats a good point. I never thought of that.:)

We'll have to disagree there - first person wandering around or not, inside the hanger is the one place I would really like to be able to see an outside view of the ship in context. For me this actually enhances my immersion/involvement rather than breaking it. When I first saw it, it looked like the station comms had established a connection to the ship and was showing me a feed off the hanger surveillance cameras - excellent!

100% agree, I am really happy that there is at least one place I can see my ship, was really well done.

This looks so great.

I bet this is going to be the spacesim with numerous features other spacesim developers will say about "Now why did we never think of that."

As far as the 3d person view during docking is concerned... I would very much prefer it to be first person all the way.
I don't mind 3d person being optional during docking for those who want it, but I would never use it myself if I had the choice. I feel forcing 3d person is a huge mistake. To be honest I cannot believe FD will do that. I bet there is a setting were 1st or 3d person can be chosen during landing and docking sequences.

3rd person / 1st person whilst docked.....

This is one area surely everyone can be made happy?

3rd person here will not affect balancing at all, so really I think it is fine to have it in there. A lot of the 3rd person fans may feel like they are being hard done by as it is, in the interests of multiplayer fairness so surely compromises here are fair game?

but I would imagine it would not be TOO much work for it to be toggleable and have it all done in 1st person with lists etc if that is what a pilot really wants.

My only issue personally with 3rd person whilst docked, is, will it bring on VR sickness in the rift swapping from 1st to 3rd.

but then this is a very personal issue which will not affect 90% of players playing on a monitor so I cant worry too much.

I kinda want that 3rd person view, because I want to seem y fancy ship being all fancy, and how the guns etc. actually look. Eyecandy is important!

Braben as the flight tutorial computer voice - I like it! :)

Or the starpilot instructor:

DB: "Which one of you maggots thinks they can take me down???!!!"

Recruit: "Surrrrr..... Ah guess ah doo."

DB: "Right, jumpers or chain cannons?"

Joking apart, its a cool idea having DB talk you through some of the items. But I guess his talents are best used elsewhere.

That is actually a very good idea!
Why not make that a real feature: Make it possible to tap into external hangar cameras. This could be during the landing procedure, but also afterwards.
This should be optional. It should not be forced upon the pilot.

One might even observe what is going on around other ships as well. You could see other pilots exiting their ships for example.

(I posted a feature request based on this)

I'm a bad person because i could't help myself snickering at that "Debbie Does Docking" post in the comments

That does not make you a bad person. It just makes you a person who knows his **** :D.

EDIT: Another word I am not allowed to say apparently. How odd.
I wonder how the english learn to talk at all. Mostly by not saying anything I suppose:smilie:.

Wow! Docking looks much more easy than I ever imagined. This totally blew me away! Can't wait to do this again and again in my own Cobra! :D

Leaving a station is now more difficult though as before, you couldn't crash but this time, there is the possibility especially if you have just bought a new ship ( on the insurance claim as to the reason behind the accident: "My previous ship had the cockpit on the top but I upgraded to a new Imperial ship that has the flight deck slung underneath and I forgot to leave room above me rather than below") :)

'I'd have a look forward if I were you, you might hit something....'

Classic!

I think when I actually get to play the game this might be one of my problems, messing with the menus while all hell breaks loose outside.

I really like the way that when your ship gets stored away beneath the deck, vents start spewing into the hanger. Is this establishing an atmosphere? Presumably a pre-cursor to being able to exit walk about without a suit? (At some point down the line of course...)

I must admit i am a little bit concerned because of the "warp" to the station. Are the Systems in ED not seamless?? Do we realy jump from "room" to "room" when we travel in one system?

I don't think that's addressing Ramireza's question? Isn't he's asking about the premise of jumping around, rather than "seemless" flying?

Supercruise will enable you to get from one point of interest to another seamlessy in a solar system, the whole warp thing in Alpha is just a placeholder thing until the Travelling and Trading in Alpha 4.0
