News Horizons Beta progress

I sink need more contrast for surfaces with no atmosphere. In worlds where there is no light scattering should be observed a strong contrast between light and dark. Look at the moon photos.

Your surface of airless moons will be much more realistic.

The SRV controls are separate to flight controls, so you should be able to map them in this way, yes. You'll have to make sure you have both your HOTAS and X360 controller plugged in every time you start the game or it might mess up your bindings.
cool... thank you... i actually leave them both plugged in always

Hi commanders.
I have read this morning about de delay of the Horizons beta release. Well, I must say something:
I'ts been more than one year since I frist heard about Elite: Dangerous. It was someone in a web page that posted a video of an asteroid field. Some weeks later I saw another video of somebody entering a huge cubic station. I was amazed. "Goodness me!" I thought, as I had never seen anything so impressive, and when I reached home I bought everything that I could regarding this universe - Elite: Dangerous + Lifetime explansions. 80€! Just that for an entire galaxy to explore and a lot of wonderful space stations where to land and deal with goods and weapons! And aaaaall of that just for the price of 3 or 4 meals that would last for a few hours. I couldn't beleive!
I was getting all of that by Christmas (I bought it in september 2014). Since then I have had dozens of hours of wonderful playing and have travelled thousands of lightyears in the galaxy. At the moment I am getting delighted discovering new worlds and reading about them in the descriptions (and learning a lot of astrophisics). Visiting far and exotic planet rings full of different huge floating rocks and pieces of ice. Every night, when I arrive home, I love to get in my ship and imagine I am there, alone, relaxed, enjoying the wonders of the galaxy (by the way, I can't wait to have a HMD to really get away and be there!).
So, after all this, some questions come to my minds, along with the answers right away:

1. Do I think Elite: Dangerous is expensive or would be expensive for 40 or 50 a year if I had not got the lifetime expansions?
- Absolutely not. As I said, just for the price of a few meals, or some drinks in some places, ED is a present. Have you ever had a look at the "Credits" option in the game? There is a huge amount of professionals that work hard so that we can enjoy thousands of incredible details that, usually slip away unnoticed. Imagine the number of code lines that need to be written so that all those details and all the phisics are there for us.

2. Can I wait for Horizons Beta some days more than advertised?
- Absolutely yes. I will wait whatever it takes. One day? One month? ... WHATEVER IT TAKES! I am sure that we will have the best game ever. The team will and is doing it for us. In fact I don't think there is a better game than ED at the moment, and if this keeps as it is at the moment, I doubt there will ever be another one that compares to ED.

Thanks a lot Frontier Developments team.

Aw! Thats soooo coool :) cant wait..... can u imagine been able to then get outta the SRV when u get to the Oasis......

PS. just a suggestion but animated textures on the windows to simulate life :)

Is it gonna be this lifeless as in the video clip? No ground vehicles, no aircrafts? No organic life to manage the facilities???

Aircraft? Yes. Check gameplay vids during Braben's Q&A couple weeks ago (jump to 23m50s):

There will be drones too. AI ground vehicles won't be at release. Organic life? Don't know but I bet if they are coming it won't be at launch.

For the foreseeable future...yes. For the life of the game...Magic 8 Ball says 'Unlikely.'

Hi folks, was trying to see if this question had been asked before but haven't found anything thus far.

I am looking forward to playing the Beta of Horizons however, I just wanted to check if the beta will be resuming from our existing LIVE sessions. Within my normal session, I am very close to the galactic core. Would the beta keep me there or spawn me within a civilisation bubble where users get to purchase ships and the SRV?

I am thinking this will be the case and I won't have to travel hundreds of thousands of light-years back home within BETA :D

Grateful if someone could confirm,

Thanks

If you do spawn near the core in beta just kill yourself (crash into star or self destruct) and then you'll re-spawn back in the last station you visited.

Another option (particularly if you have a small credit balance, but a huge amount of exploration data) is to open a support ticket, and ask them nicely to teleport your ship to a station in monkey space.

The only gripe I have is the same old flat white lighting everywhere. It should be the colour of the star shining down from the sky. This would give each system its own distinct feel and identity and frankly look more realistic and more beautiful. Please Frontier, change this.
Hmmm, yes, that probably would be more realistic - and look better too.

And some more blinking lights on the spires of the building would be functional and add interest and the impression of life.
Another good idea (which would take hardly any effort).

What happens in beta stays in beta.
Hmmm, I wouldn't assume that for 100% certain, unless they say so. Given he could potentially loose rather a lot of time/effort, I'd wait for definitive confirmation.

Thanks for all your advice guys. I have opened a ticket regarding this to be 100% sure :)

David Braben gave an indication that (as seemed likely) Beta progress will be lost:
1.5 Beta and 2.0 Beta will be playing in the same worlds - though we want to encourage 2.0 people to restart (don't worry - it won't affect your main game save), as we have a new on-the-surface start position.
Still, if you are going to risk loosing your journey-to-the-core progress, I'd want a clear written statements from FD. (I leave it up to the reader whether they consider the above is a sufficiently clear statement.)

Probably a bigger risk is that you think you're playing the Beta, delete your Save Game, and then realise you didn't start the Beta. (I've seen at least one person complain about that happening!)
