Pilot Ejection Table - For those who want some risk in their game!

Yeah, the results didn't come up for me yet, either. But it's a good start!
Found it! It's at the top of the page after all of the numbers. I think that should be a high priority to make the results more noticeable. Now to find out my result...
Edit: And...

Now I need to go back to the first page and see what that actually means...

As a casual player or weekend warrior, I'll not be using it any time soon. However, would ED at acertain point in the future allow a second character/2nd save record, I would run it IronMan style according to this table. It would give some purpose to my D20 dice collection that have been collecting dust for the last couple of years now...
I immediately was like, "Ya I love this I'm gonna use it!" but then realized that I've put 300 hours into the game so far and uh ... that's been just one character. So if they ever let me have multiple characters then for sure, I'm all over it.

I hear ya but, well, that is part of the fun of risk, right? I've got 11 insurance claims in the last year, but only 4 of those were combat related (the others were accidents early on before I made the table, and part of the reason I did).

I find myself thinking twice before going into a furball for that very reason, and quickly trying to bug out if I'm outmatched.

I sort of compare the fun to the difference between American football and what the rest of the world calls football (soccer). American football is all about the short burst of intense adrenaline, filled with long gaps of nothing (think typical FPS, death, and respawn). Soccer is about the long slow burn that builds in intensity the longer it goes on. So with the PET, the longer you're alive, the more you have to lose, the more you're going to want to cover your ass. Young spacers are foolish and die a lot. Old spacers get old for a reason ;)

Link should be updated! Also, Beta tag removed for Horizons SRV table. I think it's good to go :)

Hi everyone, Yes please take the website as work in progress. The result is not shown very clearly and there is a lot of debug information shown as well. Had not realised it would be posted on here but no problem. I'll try and get it working better over the next few days. At the moment it is definitely just a proof of calculations and not user friendly.

Sorry, didn't mean to jump the gun like that! ;) When it is ready I'll be happy to add it to the front page.

Ok some improvements to the web site generator.
*SRV mode is now available.
*Option to show the modifiers for each option
*Found a few bugs and squashed them
*Debug output moved to the bottom so as to not get in the way as much (eventually to be removed)
*Result of all the calcs now at the top

Some help is needed. I have made it possible for the outcomes of "Alive", "Dead", "Disaster" etc etc to have some nice txt explaining what happened and what to do to be randomly selected from a list. The idea is it will add a little to the immersion so that rather than just saying "Dead, Clear your save" it will say something like. "RemLok failed and you despite the best efforts of local security servers your escape capsule was never found. You are dead. Clear your save". I am no where near eloquent enough to write some interesting options so was hoping that a few of you might do so.

Here is what I have so far:
InstantDeath, Disaster or Death (each can have it's own txt but at the moment they all use the same.
Your RemLok life pod failed before it could be retrieved. Your character has died. If you really wish to play in conditional Ironman mode you will need to manually wipe your save. Warning: If you do choose to wipe your save, you will not be able to retrieve it. Neither Frontier Developments nor the author of this web site is in any way responsible if you do choose to wipe the save.

Loophole (Insurance does not pay for replacement ship just a standard Sidewinder)
Your RemLok life pod was found and you were rescued. However the insurance agent informed you that due to a loophole in your insurance policy the are declining to replace your current ship. They are however offering you a brand new basic sidewinder. If you wish to play in conditional Ironman mode you will need to choose the basic Sidewinder at the insurance screen. Warning. If you do choose the basic Sidewinder there is no way for your old character to be retrieved. Neither Frontier Developments not the author of this website is responsible if you choose to do this.

Alive, Mircacle (again both can have there own txt but at the moment they use the same
Your RemLok life pod was retrieved and the insurance company has offered to pay 95% of the replacement value of your old ship not counting any cargo on board at the time.

All of the above are just copied from the excellent program made by KellyR (Thanks!) Hope some of you can add to the immersion / lore by coming up with some nice storylines.

Another update. Ok not only could I do with some creative types to come up with a few "explanations" for what happened when you die (as detailed in my previous post just above), but I could also do with some images to go with them.

It will make sense a little more if you go to the web page again. Randomly complete the options and submit the form.
http://www.trainsimdev.com/elite/

You will see an image and the outcome next to it. I would like the image to represent the outcome a little. So if we die in an SRV then how about an SRV about to fall off a cliff. If we die in combat then how about an exploding ship surrounded by pirates. Are there any people out there who would be willing to take some appropriate screenshots? The more the merrier as they can be randomly selected from a pool of images and will add a little to the atmosphere. At the moment the images are just taken from the Horizons beta screenshots competition thread. I have just linked to the images rather than take copies of them (don't want to offend anyone by uploading them to my server without permission).

Hope there are some budding screenshot takers and script writers out there to lend a hand :D

Thanks

Jim

Google will be your friend in finding images. All those images I put on the front page I got by googling. Just type "Elite Dangerous" and whatever you're looking for (explosion, SRV, ejection) and you'll probably find something you can use right quick!

I noticed that the starting option seems confusing. You're asked to choose between SRV and Ship with a submit button. But when I choose one it goes to the full list without needing to press submit. What's more, the SRV/Ship option remains. Now, I get that what's actually happening is that the chart is "building" based on your selection (it swaps over if you choose one, and then the other, but needs a choice to begin with).

I'd suggest making ship the default and automatically selected. The player can then switch to SRV if they need to.

This looks good enough to add to the front page, with an explanation that it's a work in progress :)

Just reset my save last night, after choosing to go out in a spectacular manner.

Turned off my Anaconda's shields, and boosted into the station without requesting docking permissions. Once inside, I opened fire on an NPC in an Adder, and watched as the station shredded my ship :D

Just now used the website tool, and here's my results:

Your RemLok life pod was found and you were rescued. However the insurance agent informed you that due to a loophole in your insurance policy they are declining to replace your current ship. They are however offering you a brand new basic sidewinder.

Actions to Take
If you wish to play in conditional Ironman mode you will need to choose the basic Sidewinder at the insurance screen. Warning. If you do choose the basic Sidewinder there is no way for your old character to be retrieved. Neither Frontier Developments not the author of this website is responsible if you choose to do this.

Looking forward to playing the game this way!!

Allow me to edit and build upon what's been added here (you and KellyR are free to use these as you see fit:

InstantDeath
The gravitational pull of the collapsed star proves too great for your ship. As the canopy cracks and hull collapses, you have just enough time to realize you made a big big mistake. Nobody will even hear your distress signal. Your loss will be one more mystery added to the cosmos.

Disaster
It could have worked. It should have worked! But sometimes no matter how well you plan for something, fate has something else in store. In this case fate intends for you to go back in time between twenty and forty years, get born, grow up, and become a space pilot... all the while having this nagging feeling that things did not go well for you the last time you tried that as a career.

Death

"From the stars we came, to the stars we return, from now until the end of time. We therefore commit this body to the deep."
Your RemLok life pod failed before it could be retrieved. Your character has died. Time to wipe your save and start a new adventure.

Loophole (Insurance does not pay for replacement ship just a standard Sidewinder)
"Welcome back to the land of the living, Commander. You're lucky to be alive. Don't get up, you'll need a bit of time to recover. I'm just here from the Bank of Zaonce to to over your insurance claim. I'm sorry to inform you that due to Clause 17, sub-paragraph B, item 2 of the 'Ship Destruction' portion of our investigation, we've found your ship to be in violation of one or more of your conditions for full coverage of your ship. I'm afraid this is non-negotiable. However, thanks to the Pilot Federation's universal safety net, you are entitled to a stock Sidewinder-class vessel, on loan, until you can get back on your feet. Sorry to trouble you. Here, let me up the morphine for you a bit. Now, if you could just sign here to indicate you understand this agreement..."

Alive (I've added three here in case you want to modify based upon the difficulty of the roll, or on how high/low the success was, your choice)
(for easy conditions) "What kind of a stupid ass stunt was that? You don't think I have better things to do that pluck pilots out of vacuum after getting their ships wrecked for stupid reasons? You could have practically walked back to the nearest station. God, try and be more careful next time. Hell, it would serve you right if you didn't have insurance. Teach you a lesson. Like I have that kind of luck. Punks like you always have insurance..."

(for normal conditions) "Hello, Commander. I'm with Galactic Search and Rescue. Don't panic. I know you can't move. You're recovering from RemLok, and a medic will be with you shortly. I just wanted to let you know everything is going to be fine. Just relax, you'll be up and flying your old ship in no time... assuming you have enough in your account to cover the insurance. But then, what kind of moron flies without insurance, am I right?"

(for hard conditions) "Commander? Commander? Can you hear me? Blink twice if you can hear me. Okay. Good. That's a good sign. You've been in a deep RemLok state for some time, and quite frankly, you're lucky to be alive. Your brain functions were this close to going flatline. I'm not going to lie, it's going to take some time for you to recover, but I think everything is going to be okay. Hell, even if you don't have insurance, consider yourself the luckiest pilot alive right now."

Miracle

Nobody... NOBODY is going to believe this. I mean, it happened to you and YOU don't even believe it! You just hope your ship caught it all on camera before it went kablooie. If it did, you'll be getting spacers to buy you drinks for years to come. Decades even. As for insurance...

Advanced IronMan Option
A new option was added on the front page. If you want, maybe you can add an option to your charts. Basically Advanced means that even if you live you end up with a Sidewinder. But rather than using the Loophole text you could add this after the regular rescue text (or miracle) above:

Insurance? Ha. That just covers medical bills these days. You've had to rely on the Pilot Federation's safety net to get yourself a stock Sidewinder just to get out of this place. Of course, if you have any other ships waiting around at another dock, it shouldn't take long for you to get back on your feet at all. If not... well, you've still got your reputation intact. Jobs are bound to easier to get than they were when you were just a rookie.

How's that?

That is great stuff mossfoot. Changes made (as per your suggestions):
* Form defaults to "ship" option
* Advanced iron man mode option added
* Lots of additional images configured that approximate to the result of the dice roll (hopefully!)
* Added in mossfoot suggestions for the various outcome texts. It really adds quite a lot to the immersion.

That's about it. Anybody who wishes to submit an image or some txt for any of the outcomes from the dice roll please do so. The more we have the more variety there is and the less likely you are to get the same txt each time.

Problem on the Sidewinder screen:

Actually the character is still the same character if you choose a Sidewinder. You keep your rank, Elite Status, money, other ships, etc.

Thanks. Updated and changed to "ship" rather than "character" where relevant. Things still to do are add a credit's list page for everyone that has helped. add warning that cookies are used (to store the basic form settings to improve usability), add some statistics for fun based on how many commanders have died, lived, miracles etc etc. Just so you can see how things of gone for others.

Not sure what you mean in terms of difference between eng-DB and outcome.

The top option of eng_GB will hopefully allow for translation of the site into different languages in the future. At the moment there is only one translation / language option (English British or en_GB).
