UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

I will discount any single image without providence. Anyone who seriously wants to present evidence of something new they will show multiple angles and give a location (if you want to keep the location secret then don't bother posting).

Can't rep you Red :(

I don't think anyone who posts in this forum would decry someone for spoilers who posted "Hey guys, I just found Meta-alloys here!" and posted where and how they found it, essentially "spoiling" the search so to speak. It's not like keeping their location a secret is useful for anything either; there's a lot more profit to be had in many other activities, bounty hunting, farming UAs or "shadow delivery" missions.

There's been so many people posting cryptic little things over the time under the guise of "not wanting to spoil it" or "Oh it's so obvious", and all of them have amounted to absolutely nothing relevant in-game. I don't believe anything that's not straight-up demonstrable and repeatable independently.

Given that the text says they are "quite common", I sort of think that if the meta alloys WERE to be found in the Pleiades or the UA bubble, we would have found something by now. Unless they're speaking FD-ese when saying "common".

Do we know any other regions of any significance worth checking out? All I can think of is NGC 6357, but it's sort of a long schlep back there...

hey all, i just wanted to suggest that we not be so quick to dismiss this image as insignificant. i mean, couldn't it have been intentionally leaked by the devs as a sort of clue or route marker?.

If you haven't already, check out my post regarding the image using parts of a frame in the Horizons trailer. I essentially tested what other people have said about the bottom right of the structure using a mirrored subsection of the trailer. It may not be 100% obvious from the images I posted, but the piece from the trailer lines up perfectly when scaled uniformly (meaning scaling equally in X and Y, no stretching) and rotated into place. But it doesn't line up only with the edges. The patterns of the structure also line up, as does the lighting.

It's almost statistically impossible for someone to have put a camera in just the right angle and just the right place looking at just the right section of an object that would have to be perfectly symmetrical, and also would need to be lit in exactly the same way from lights of just the right intensity and placed in exactly the same (but mirrored) positions in relation to the structure.

This all probably sounds really pedantic, so apologies in advance. But I just want to highlight how extremely unlikely it is, in my opinion, that the image is not a collage artwork of some sort.

And if what you mean is that the devs are the ones that actually did some photoshopped artwork as a "leaked" hint for us, I find it difficult to believe they wouldn't just take a screengrab in-game instead of going through the motions of fabricating one. After all we know they have the assets made as they have used them in the trailer.

I hope that is not preventing it from spawning when the mission is picked up. Ug.

I doubt it. The misspelling is consistent both in the file names and inside the files.

I also don't think you'll need the mission, it just may improve your odds of spawing the PoI if you have it.

I just spent quite a while trying to stack the mission unsuccessfully. Got the first one really quickly and then spent ages trying to get another with no success.

Really torn between supplying plin with tons and tons of UA.....and heading out in the black looking for barnicles

I keep bouncing around the Galaxy, from Merope to Achenar to the Crescent Nebula to the systems surrounding the Regor sector. The only reason I went to the Crescent nebula was because the "updated permit thread" isn't very 'updated', but it was a nice and beautiful trip anyway. Weirdly I found crashed Nav beacons on the surface of a random moon there.
I'm in a position to help find these meta alloys, and I eeally want to find them because I couldn't really help find the UA's back in the beginning.

I actually found two of these, both on the same planet, along with a few SRV wrecks. I didn't find POI like these on the other planets I visited, though I only spent the day in the Nebula then returned back home.

Edit- I'm actually on the 'dark' side of that moon, and it's an ice moon too. It's red because of the nebula :D

Just an Update on Antares fun - CG is still going and has not reached the first tier yet ..

If you are interested in helping out - the best way (shown to me by Cmdr Alasdor) I have seen so far to collect the wreckage components - is to go to a good spawn point (see panzertard list below)
collect all 5 with limpit - then logout to screen and back in - collect 5 more ... and repeat... After which of course - is selling in black market at Davys Dock Procyon ... not the most exciting of activities ... but im hoping for more antares info to aid in the search (if we can atleast make that first tier)

Whats the security at Davys Dock like? I might try that approach in a T9 but depends on how much combat I'm likely to see and how on the ball the security is.

While I always regret having to resort to poking around game files I'm glad we have SOME confirmation of where to look. Stops people like me stopping off at every single Signal Source ''just in case'' lol

Yeah.. As much as I want to continue to be involved in this I can't help but get tired of the whole episode. Is this fun anymore? We have thousands of players scouring the galaxy with very little to go on and I can pretty much guarantee once said barnacles are found, there'll be yet another 'puzzle' to solve.

I'm bored of it. :( This whole thing smacks of the Mirage from FFE. I get the distinct impression we are all being led down the garden path.

Edit: I just don't believe there is much in the way of content re this presently in the game. At this rate, it will be TEN years before we see anything remotely interesting that represents ACTUAL gameplay. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Am I the only person here who finds this all extremely frustrating?

For balance lets re cap succinctly:

The UA (looks freaking awesome and sounds amazing) appeared, and it had some sounds to be deciphered...

At a later date, MONTHS down the line, it then it changed and scanned the ship it encountered and was found to transmit 3D representation of our ships.

I don't know how long this has been going on.. (gotta be well over SIX months) but with almost ZERO to go on, there are said barnacles to find. Another six months to find them, then decipher it all again.. call it 12 MONTHS more..

At this rate we might actually find something interesting in the next five years. This is poor, simply poor. And for those amongst us who wish to reserve ones sanity, is this sort of thing only the preserve of a small number who have a degree in particle physics from MIT?

I can't be bothered with this anymore. Its tedious.

It could be tedious if it's the only thing you do in your life / in game.
If you do other things, like most of us do, it's just part of the game.

We've already widely discussed on the word "content", whose meaning varies from people to people.
For my two children, playing hide and seek, is indeed "content".

Our only "problem" is that, our hide and seek game, takes place in a real-scale galaxy: most probably there are other things out there, other mysteries we did not find yet.

I gotta say that I dont think there are any mysteries out there.. Its a sad sort of situation where people get frustrated and start trawling the game files. I can do that, but I really dont want to. But I have had a look and unless there is a heap of stuff totally obscured and obfuscated then there isn't that much presently there.

As far as I am aware no one has found anything significant re POIs.. Large ship wrecks remain elusive and I'm rather bored of finding canisters of tea and coffee - which are apparently points of interest. I don't know whats going on at FD. I dont know how much time and effort it took to do the height maps for the planets.. I defend the game and tell people that Horizons is great, and I do like it a lot, but there comes a point when we might have to ask ourselves, or more importantly, ask FD where is the content?

I've been playing a long time and when it comes to Horizons, it would appear to me at least, that this particular stage of the expansion is centred around exploration.. So we kinda need things to find. I play a lot and the're arent there yet from my experience.

I'm more than happy waiting and I am patient but I do call out David when he said a while back there were things to find we hadn't.. I don't believe that any more. I think we are being led on a wild goose chase and I say all this because I value my time.

So as politely as I can ask.. Can we get some confirmation from the developers that we aren't all wasting our time?
Coz if this stuff isn't really in the game, I can still enjoy it, but I can spend it doing other things.. if you get my drift.

I actually agree in parts with both of you. However, one thing I do find a little grating is the potential that this new POI/Barnacle is simply ALL that has been added to the game. I find the thrill of wondering what else could happen/can be found diminished by the all too real possibility that - until another distant point in the future - there is simply nothing else to this. No way for any (un)lucky commander to stumble upon something and have a genuinely progressive encounter.

I think that a fantastic breadcrumb trail has been created here - and I find it really engaging, I just fear that the remaining breadcrumbs have not even been scattered yet - and won't be for a long time. That, for me at least, kind of spoils it.

I'd be utterly delighted to be totally wrong! :)
