OP speaks the truth. Its not an "insult" , its just a statement. Generally older gamers arent as "hardcore" as younger players. I know its a broad statement but it does apply heavily to many of the forum users here. As we get older, games take a backseat. Focus more on career, put in less hours, its only normal. But with less hours your game intuition begins to rot and micro skills begin to decay.
Whilst older gen gamers have a wealth of knowledge to draw upon, whether it applies to ED or not is the question. If you haven't been effectively playing games to a min/max style ( META ) then you're already not a "gamer gamer" , you're now a "dad gamer".
I'll be falling to this category soon, not quite yet but my free time each year slowly dwindles away...
Interesting. What is "hardcore"? I'll take my 17 year old son (heck, throw in my 25 year old too). Both like the fast-twich FPS, or hang out in League all the time. But again, what is hardcore? Both hit the world's repository - the Internet for cheats, hacks, how-to's, instructional guides, and pro tips. A big distinction for us old timers that didn't have the internet back in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. We ground through, learning as we went, and amassed our knowledge. Gaining advantage through scripts, hacks, exploits and others wouldn't meet my definition of hardcore.
Now, given the lack of guidance for this game, this gamedad has done a bit of both - I jumped into the ship with the "official" user guide, learned how to fly it, and then ventured off into the black. I'll still hit Youtube to figure out the BGS.
Is it a matter of preference that I'm not into fast twich games? Absolutely. Does it make me less of a gamer? No.
And as a father (and grandfather), I don't need to wave my epeen around to show the community how awesome or hardcore I am. If you're hardcore, cool - it's an open sandbox. If you're a gamerdad, cool as well. I hold any type of CMDR in the same regard - play your own game (yes, even to the griefers out there).
