wow.............. so many ways i want to respond to this but the forum filters will redact it.

Oh I just got through mentioning his sort. The part I don't understand? Why on earth would anyone one want to socialize with people like that?

1st off just putting it out there... I have never CLed other than due to my graphics driver hanging, and then my god the disabled alt F4 is a pita but i digress..

however that being said, IF i was attacked by a berk in mobius, and IF i did then CL and was reported, I would be interested to see if FD did anything about it. Yes i know they "say" CLing even when being griefed in a private mode is cheating and will be punished, and that going into a private group and griefing is suported valid play..

but I wonder if they would actually be hardnosed enough to wield the ban hammer in such a circumstance or if they would let it slide..... I guess i will never know.

They won't ban for "combat logging".

I hope this doesn't happen. The playerbase is so         divided that it's difficult to find anybody, EVER. Create a PvE only group, and you've split the playerbase even further. Mobius is one of these problems which should be quelled, removed completely.

1.4 million might be a lot, and for Arena mode, it is. But when you have 20,000 or so inhabited systems, with a majority in a select few and out exploring, you can go literally days without seeing a player in Open Play. I've gone a week without SEEING another player, and when you see someone, they RARELY reply to your damned "hello"!

tl;dr dedicated PvE > final nail in the coffin that is Open Play.

The player base gets divided every time someone make s a group. People who play in Mobius will never be seen in OP so it doesn't matter if they make a PVE mode or not.

The other glaring elephant in the room is that if you make the AI harder that = longer which means getting up ranks = more grind. Knowing how little thought FD put into things, they need to make sure they re-evaluate the ranking system (for those people that care about it).

From my perspective, fighting a 'skilled' AI pilot would be fun. So if the fun lasts longer, where's the foul?

So much this.

Mobius has been infilitrated by numpties before, and it will be again.

FD are exactly right, it was unfortunate.

Move on folks. Storm in a teacup.

It's indicative of the problems that actually plague Open Play. There's no consequence for attacking people for no reason, and being on the receiving end adds nothing to the game and subtracts a whole lot. It's just not fun, no matter who you are. FD doesn't have to remove a single griefer - they can just design the game to give more serious consequences for wanton murder.

Really simple, in Open mode have a toggle for PVP it's either on or off, On, you are openly consenting and looking for PVP, Off you cannot be shot at, nor shoot any other player. Another addition is simply specify a few systems as PVP systems if you enter that system, it's fair game...

Solved,, easy peasy..

errr no it needs at least one more option, "I don't give a .... if someone shoots at me but I'm not particularly looking to get into a fight" mode :p

It's on Sandro's radar as indicated by his responses here yesterday. We'll probably have to deal with what we've got for a little while yet though.

Frontier can take the view that the griefers did nothing wrong, the members of Mobius can stop playing and more importantly spending money with Frontier. A company cannot tolerate a situation that could and most likely will annoy 20 000 players.

The fact there are 20 000 players in mobius should indicate to frontier that a PVE server is needed.

Ignore your customers at your peril.
Sorry, you are wrong. Of the 1.45 million accounts, only 20,000(ish) are in Mobius. Frontier are taking the stance that players can play as they see fit. All players, regardless of background, play style or douchieness as one guy said. They provide the sandbox, what you do when inside that area is up to you, or in the case of other players, them. You can create a tall elegant sand castle with spires and a moat only to have some weenie come along and kick it down in seconds. Trying to dictate morality will kill this game very quickly.

It's no different than the guy at Sag A* shooting up unarmed explorers, or the A-spec Anaconda interdicting noob players on their first space flight. Frontier are not enforcing morality, that's on us, the player base. The devs are staying neutral to all play styles, as it should be. The disruptive players were kicked out of the private group, as they have been in a few instances in the past.

To get around some of these issues, Frontier can set up more starter systems so not everyone begins in predictable systems. However, that's as may be, we have to live with what we have today.

There will always be those of dubious morals, the bored, the antagonists, the anarchists, the crap stirrers in the game. It's how real life works as well. I've made proposals in the past on how to marginalize these players letting people play in Open with fewer incidents, but just like in real life, you can never have a system that works 100% of the time to protect you.

Always have your rebuy cost covered. That's what it is there for when good turns to bad.

hey we need something to do at work :) , now i want beer and play elite but still need to "w8" a little , you have it so easy atm :)

and we have zac answer now. Geuss its safe to say solong elite exist this kinda discussion will go on and on!

I've done my 40+ hours for this week and have 2 days off to enjoy (I work weird days). I will have my beer and flying my spaceship, and inevitably probably crashing at some point, dammit!
:D

And yea, it will continue but I just wouldn't let the actions of a few ruin anyone's game experience. These incidents have been pretty rare so I'm really surprised by the general reaction from some people.
Starting to think of humans as "panic monkeys" again...on the positive side, when you humans "really" die, at least you can't complain after.

Generally:
I'm not gonna get into a discussion about CL as there's already a big thread about it somewhere and don't wanna derail the thread. It's a choice where you either avoid the in game consequences or you don't. I play the game and learn by my mistakes as I consider it part of the experience so I don't log.
I do understand that this seems like a difficult premise for some to understand though.

I do hope there are greater consequences for griefers and generally being a bad guy (crime & punishment) and if they can get that right I think it'll go a long way to helping make this game all it can be.

.. I can't withhold money from Frontier, as I've paid everything up front. However, there will be no future support.. Disgusting.
I agree, I am very unhappy with Frontier and there lack of concern about the communities desires. I wont waste anymore time on them and hoping they will listen to any of our wishes, they have their vision and the rest of us can go pound sand.. at least that is how it has felt over the past two years.

That suggests you may be labouring under the misapprehension that people who play in solo do so because they are afraid of PvP. I play exclusively in solo purely because I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in playing Elite multiplayer. Until ED, it had always been a single player game and I think ED should have been too. I play in solo because, although it's hugely disappointing as it's limited by multiplayer considerations, it's the closest approximation to the game I wanted and backed on day one. I'm one of the players who fell for the ol' bait and switch. It's unlikely we'll ever all be forced into open, but if that ever happens then I (and many others) will simply stop playing.

ED is the first and last MMO with solo/PvE I will ever buy. I avoid MMOs because of these types of online interaction, grind based gameplay and the constantly shifting goal posts in the name of "balance". It doesn't mean I don't play multiplayer games (Arma, DCS, CoH) but I won't be buying Naval Action. I avoid anything with MMO as a "feature" like the plague now.

That was the entire point of the KS: that they could do THEIR vision with NO interuption from anyone or anything else.
