The whole thing about elite is you do what you want my play changes from day to day sometimes hour to hour I do what I want to do
.
So your question is a waste of time

What a pointless poll. How can you not have a third option for both? Are you silly? You are silly.

In light of all of this silliness, I have chosen the non-existent 4 option, 'everyone is silly.'

It's a loaded question. The poll is a loaded question; it supposes there are just two options, of which are mutually exclusive - and forces everyone to compromise their position, be unable to vote or in the rare cases collect the data a person with strong views of a specific option.

Unsurprisingly this has meant if people are forced to choose, it's co-op. Welcome to a hugely distorted survey where the answers are made up, and the points don't matter. ;)

Because i'm a nasty old man. :p

I've noticed this pattern. I refuse to be cajoled into making a specific choice. I shall never surrender!

... ok fine - it's both. it's always been both. it's possible for both. I like both. Thus I protest that I cannot vote for both; isn't there an uprising you can usurp in the forums or something, rather than taunting people with binary questions? :)

I have always preferred cooperation to competition.

I used to like sports until teams became franchises.

See, when one is competing, one will always run into the kind of person that just HAS to win in order to feel good about the time taken actually IN competition. Those kind of people ruin the competition. Every time.

So, I no longer compete. I step aside and let someone else win. I'm gaining happiness just crossing the finish line. I did it. I don't care that someone else got there before me, big deal. I MADE IT.

This is my philosophy.

Sorry, can't vote. I'm a loner. I don't compete, and I don't cooperate. I just play my own way. I neither seek out nor avoid others, if you find me I'll say 'Hi', maybe exchange a few words; but I'll soon move on. I don't get involved in any of the politics, I pledge my allegiance to no-one other than myself. My cockpit is my home, not a star, not a planet, and not a station.

Off to the Black once again.

You don't like both compete and cooperate? Dang, knew there would be at least one person like this.

Ok, protest vote noted! :D
Make that two ;)
Whichever mode I play in I view it as basically a single player game. So any action I take is neither in competition or cooperation except by pure chance.
The most interaction I'll do is a 'o7 CMDR' if I'm feeling sociable.

You look at any team-based sport, you have cooperation (the team, like, totally duh!) and the competition (enemy team must die!) you can't have one exclusively. In the scope of this game, Arena has two team based cooperative+competitive queues (TDM and CTF) while having one free for all, pure competitive queue. In the game, you have competition all around you in every populated system, minor factions fighting to get to the top. You have community goals which are cooperative, unless there's an opposing goal from a different faction (Empire vs Emperor's Dawn, the Feds searching for debris against that random corporation recently). You can still compete against a 1 sided community goal, but it doesn't count for much.

I haven't had my coffee yet.

In light of recent threads about Powerplay bonuses, I can't help but see this as a knee jerk reaction. An attempt to change the goal posts, to say "here's a poll to say why!"

I can't choose, want both.

This. But since there is just "either or" I have chosen competition. Why? Because co-op is too easy, I'd rather go alone in ED as NPCs (heck, even most of the players) are not a real challenge.
The AI doesn't act logically and are really predictable.

So competition 'cause there is no reason to cooperate.

I prefer to cooperate in this game as its a cooperative type game. There is not really much to compete with in game. Its not like a fps shooter. I'm a fairly competitive person and will always give 100% to try to win or compete even against hopeless odds as that where the fun is. Not the winning or losing but in the act of competing. But the slow nature of this game does not lend itself to my competitive play style. I need to be on it from beginning to end. I cant have long spells of non competitive and then a sudden 2mins of fighting or competing. I have to be competing 100% all the time. Otherwise my interest in the competition wains. I dont mind quiet spells where I am strategising or flanking etc and then the rush of combat as I am still getting the buzz from having to remain attentive and vigilant for 100% of time. But ED is a relaxed game where nowt much happens for ages and then all of a sudden you meet the rebuy screen.

Thats why this game does not work for me in a pvp theme. Plus Im a FPS person. I never use armour or aircraft. Always front line infantry. Where the action is. K/D ratio is secondary to the objective to me, I PTFO. Now if planetside fps was ported on and I could run around the planet base and shoot, I'd happily join in on pvp. But it isnt, so I dont. But I also like to be cooperative as I am fairly amiable and would only shoot my mates in the back and never a stranger. Mates get what they deserve, the swines. :)

But I would enjoy pvp more if it was handled better. I get no kicks from easy prey. The fun is in the battle and the closer the fight the better it is for me. So I guess I could just get a weak ship and have a go, but theres the delays to get to the systems, the delays finding the targets, the delays sorting this and sorting that. Nope it just doesnt work for me. Plus theres no strategy other than interdict and shoot. I'm a strategist as well as a shooter. I need to be able to bring strategy to the board and this game hasnt got any. As far as I can tell, but I may have missed it. Who knows.

In a game competition it's much more fun than cooperation. It's a game, is designed to have fun, not real life, so i voted for competition.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I usually prefer to do support classes in multi-player games, when that's available. Voted for cooperate. I'd love it if there were more ways to do co-op. Then again my gaming time is limited, so I probably wouldn't be able to even if I wanted.
