why NPC interdict me withous any reason?!

i have no cargo, i have no bounty...

interdicted me, one or in wings, and wihtout scan attack me directly. i have no time do nothing. only run.

it's annoying. and expensive.

I find the improved piloting of the AI is great however in some cases the NPC weapomns are way overpowered. I farmed almost 2 mil this morning hunting in RES and HighRES areas with no problems. Then just now logged into a RES zone, spotted a lone sidewinder in my Viper IV and scanned him, In the first pass he took my shields off line and knocked me down to 51% health. That is with a 3A shuileds and a sheild booster. I had 100% sheilds and 100% hull before he started that pass. I immediatly put my guns in and dropped 3 pips in my engines and shields and ran. By the time I jumped I was at 31% health. This cannot be as intended

Please, cop on a small bit, direct you ire to Apple and not FD, its not their fault for Christs sake.
Really? engineered mods from 2.1 bleeding over into 1.6... (where no actual player has an engineered mod) ... is not a Mac problem. It is a Frontier Development design issue. It is a Frontier Development error.

okay,

168 pages into this thread, and i think i have a ghost of a chance of being read.

loved this game since inception. loved the warts, the shiny parts, loved it all. accused of being a fanboy - would not be offended by it.

i don't like it anymore. it favors the fighter waaaaay too much, at the expense of every other path.

honestly, it's miserable setting foot out there. i pity the new people, and apologize to the friends that i recommended this game to.

i saw the video of the Python vaporized in a second, and just feel there is no parity anymore.

oh, well - flame away -

:-(

Haven't read all 167 pages of the thread, but has the issue of some AI ships being able to melt shields and ships in seconds being explained or is it a bug.

Some engagements are fine no matter the skill of the pilot but you then get ones where before you can even get your weapons out your shield is gone. This is for NPC's using laser so not even plasma accelerators.

I have fought elite pilots without issue. I suspect the real problem is that people are used to AI that gave you a full minute to kill them before even shooting back. So now people are experiencing time differently.

As soon as SC drops, you need to pull your weapons out and start lining up your target. You only have ~ 10 seconds now before the AI opens fire. Use them to get out of his firing solution and put them in yours.

Eg, You can no longer sip your tea during combat. Doesn't mean the AI are gods though.

So, you haven't read the post by SJA saying that there will be a balancing pass?

So you didn't watch the video with the 2-second kill of a python?

The fact that Horizons is not available on Mac is because Apple don't support the correct technology - that is true.

The fact that engineered weapons are still able to attack 1.6 players is probably a design decision. In order to avoid this, you would effectively have to make a wall between 1.6 and 2.1 players and say they could never meet, which would be worse. Even if they made it so that 1.6 players can't encounter NPCs with engineered weapons, this would have to be only in solo mode, otherwise any instance where there was even just one 1.6 player in there would mean that no NPC could have engineered weapons.

I can actually understand why this might seem unfair for 1.6 players, but I'm not sure how else it could be done. Perhaps they can at least tweak things to make it less likely that NPC will have souped up weapons when a 1.6 player encounters NPCs, as long as the player is alone at the time.

I've had a great day following this thread today, but after 2000 posts (only read 10% of them, which is quite a feat, still) this is how it's begining to feel:

Exactly. It's all about picking your battles. When before, one can just mindlessly fight anyone and win; now, one has to think twice, check the ranks, how many potential enemy, whether or not the police are present, whether one has enough SCB and chaff to survive at least. At the moment, the best strategy is to collect as many materials and data as possible, and from there upgrade anything until the ship has a high margin of survivability.
here we are again how do you pick a battle when you have just been interdicted? how do you know who you are facing before you turn and target and scan? by which time if you get one of the op npcs you may already be dead.

i keep having to say this but when i had my encounter i turned to face them having submitted. i was looking forward to seeing the new AI. all i got was new modded weapons. they open fire, master npc in aviper mk iii. i fire back, hes past me and im throttle up to turn and evade and try and target. i glance down at shields - his barely touched i already lost one ring and the other ones turned red and nearly gone. time to flee this is 3 seconds in and i get hit again. aim away pips to sys then 4 to eng. boost and max throttle. boost. boost 20 seconds im still getting hit shields gone. hes caught up or hitting at insane range but hes matching me for speed at least, plus op weapons. by 30 seconds im down 74% hull and my fsd wont stay online. i cant charge it to jump its on and off constantly. then the cops arrive and save me. im in a hi sec system which is why they came.

how do you fight when your fire doesnt dent its shields and one pass and half or more your shields are gone? how do you flee when hes as fast or hits at long range and cannot get out of range? how do you jump when your FSD is jumping off and on and wont charge? this is my ship - remember its not a combat ship its general use such as the majority of ships in elite would likely be - the small trader/mission doers and explorers who make the wheels go round and keep the place turning. so please dont tell me how to turn it into a combat machine if i wanted to be a full time pp-er or bounty hunter/pirate i know how to do that.

put yourself in that ship at 30 seconds with that damage and all the rest... now imagine no cops come. i keep being told pick your fights, i had no choice to avoid this one unless i evaded interdiction (fat chance and then yyou already have damage and FSD cooldown is more time you dont have). so tell me how you miracle your way out in this ship in that situation?

I actually like some of the AI behavior modifications, but voted 'too hard' because of:
- sometimes seems to bug out and deal insane amounts of damage (had something akin to this happen: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/4ldut6/ai_weapon_bug_a_little_more_than_dangerous/ )
- waaaay too many NPCs heavily decked out in engineer modifications (NPCs got the engineer expansion without a 3 month delay, it seems)
- while AI behavior is really improved, the increased time it takes to take out a hostile should be reflected in the bounties

Have you pledged to power?
I was... but left (not defected) a few hours ago and the craziness stopped in regards to be interdicted to death and gangs of rival powers showing up in the various zones and nav beacons and wiping me out.

I upgraded to Horizons thinking that it was mainly 1.6 players having issues... nah... still having issues with over-powered NPC's.

I'm over it... I guess I'm too big for my britches in regards to rank and ship class, so I just cleared my save. I'm going to bounty hunt and work my way up to a well equipped DB Scout and enjoy playing again. I don't feel like waiting until next Friday... good bye FDL and 146 million credits. :p

Wow, that was close, a Viper MkIV, just pulled me out of SC again. Deadly, took my Asp's shields down in 10 seconds and I was losing my Military bulkheads before I high-waked out. Damn, this is annoying. Why? I'm just on a discovery run. No affiliation, no bounty, no cargo. Jump me for the fun of it? Give me a break, already.

So, you haven't read the post by SJA saying that there will be a balancing pass?

hi, Ian.

quick reply, that one.

it demands a balancing pass. i thought it was 'balanced' during the beta process.

i'm totally aware of the difficulties of tweaking a game with a thousand buttons to turn, and they just added another 10 thousand.

the SJA post? i read the 'new posts' with the morning coffee. even then, i can't catch them all.

No sipping of tea, I deployed weapons as soon as I dropped, before they deployed I had no shields. If I hadn't been running an A spec Cobra III with military plate I wouldn't have escaped, in this instance the cobras op speed was the only thing that saved me.

I am not the only one who has experienced this the you tube video of a python being insta killed was serious deja vu.

If it is a bug with certain weapons or NPC's getting way to many mods then that should be able to be balanced. If it is just the way weapons work now, I would suggest the balancing pass makes shields 2 or 3 times more effective with higher recharge rates. I want a challenging combat that last at least 2 minutes at the moment I think combat is way too quick. In Beta taking on an Anaconda in a small ship with lots of help was a 15 minute affair as getting the shields down and keeping them down was tough, that is the sort of battle I want.

Also I have now unpledged from my power as being attacked by an opposing power NPC and they don't go red so if you fire back you do get tagged is very annoying.
