News NPC AI update

Can't believe people are still complaining after all this. Before Engineers,AI was awesome ey? I would rather go on a mining marathon than fighting that AI again.

Don't complain? Gimme a break!

I've just returned from a journey to Sagittarius A yesterday. On my way back to Eravate in order to deliver exploration log and switch docked ships, three pirates interdicted me and stripped class 3 shield in 5 seconds and burned my ASP into ashes, ship with all the exploration data collected in a couple of month.

I had read release notes of the recent patch as usual, however, did not realize NPC has been tweaked like this. And then I come here to see what's going on.

I think I do have a right to complaining after all this, but if you say I shouldn't, I am quitting playing Elite Dangerous. What do you say?

I say:

Never, ever, fly to the middle of the bubble after an exploration trip with an exploration build.

Ever.

Dock at a rim system, and sell your data there, or, if you must sell at a particular station, harden your ship up for the rest of the trip.

This has always been true. Exploration builds will inevitably be very weak in a fight, and after a long trip, with 0% hull integrity, say goodbye to 33% of your hull, and that is if your hull is still at 100%.

Sorry to hear of your destruction, being an explore rmyself, I totally get your frustration.

Z...

Or plot a path from one unpopulated system to another, through the bubble. There are a lot of entirely empty systems you can use as stepping stones, if you really want to sell your data somewhere in particular.

Just hitting "route plot" from A to B, and playing the hand you're dealt? Not a great risk management strategy if you have lots of exploration data on board, and are flying a jump-range-optimised ship.

I survived against a full wing in my Asp. They didn't even touch the hull. I knew things have changed so i equipped my ship with chaff and point defense, submitted to the intediction, boosted away, FA Off and started spinning while the fsd was charging. Easy peasy lemon squeezy

FDL is an excellent ship, you have no excuses. Use FA off and learn to pilot properly.

As intense Casual Player i don´t want to learn everything new after 7 Months of Playing.
I want the Game back i´ve payed for.
Single Player and with easy difficult.....the same settings i used in Fallout 4 or Far Cry 3+4.
Why is the Solo Mode coupled with the Multiplayer?
Why there is no setting for the difficult in Solo Mode?
Only for understanding.
I don´t want that old bugged AI back but why FD didn´t fix them?
They throw us Casuals from a relaxing Single Player Game into something like Dark Souls.
If ED was released with a hard AI i played it for 1 Hour and refund it via Steam.
But after 7 Mounths for me and over a Year for others they Changed the complete AI and Gameplay.
And thats absolutly not Okay.
Is that so hard to get in the whole Pro Gamer Minds?

Have they removed every moddet Weapon from the NPC´s?
Meet a NPC FdL with 28% Hull and no Shields on.
Wanted!
Easy Target......Attack.
Thermal Attack detected!....Gaining Heat.
Okay....I killed him and get over 200k Bounty but my Shields went down in one Flyby and my Hull gets 5% Dmg+Module Dmg from Overheating.

I agree the NPC are still way to tough, FD should try to look at this from a casual gamer or a non combat skilled player. they can't escape or struggle avoiding these NPC, so are being killed, losing cargo?data/credits to replace ships. This is going to ruin their experience. and ultimately ruin the game. if the combat based/skilled players really think, losing the custom of the causal players/non combat based players wont affect the $$ income to this game, I think your going to be disappointed.

Even just having a reputation, as a game that is only for elite combat players, and not for the explorers/traders/causal players, will hit the bank balance. and the game will suffer. So please address the balance some more, and don't be swayed by the combat skilled fighters, that expect, people to just learn to combat. Give the players who don't have the skills or inclination to learn, the ability to escape or survive long enough to run some of the time. I know there should be a risk, but not this high. I am sure you have the data there, to check.

Right Aftermath.
At the beginning of my ED Career i traveld with smaller Ships and trade with Rare Goods.
After some Time i purcased a Type 6 Transporter and sometimes i´ve lost the Cargo or Ship AND Cargo.
But i can defend myself a litte agains small Enemys.
Now no one gets a chance to fight with a Cargoship and with the speed and agility of a wet Sack full of Rice there is no Runaway possible.
How shoult Players handle this Problems?
Enforced to fly in Wings altrough he wants to play Solo Mode?

Is anybody else getting spontaneously attacked by powerplay 'enemy' when they first enter a res – and it seems to be only on first entry, so may be an initialisation bug perhaps. I am pledged to Hudson, but since the attacks do not persist throughout the res session am inclined to the bug theory. If it is a new feature then it seems ludicrous. I have been attacked simultaneously by up to five enemy (two wings I think). There may have been more on one occasion, but I was not good enough to stay around long enough to count them. Most of the time it is 'just' one or two. Irritating at least. Sometimes much worse. Can also confirm what others have said that not all special weapons have been removed. Lots of impulse attack, thermal attack taking heat damage and (special) missiles – whoooosh, bang oh where did my shields just go. Plus some of the npcs manoeuvre like house flies. This may be just efficient use of stock abilities, but I swear a few pythons I fought had racing engines.

I leaved my Faction.
There are enough Pirates out there to disturbing me like hell.
I dont need Utopia Overseers and the other Idiot Faction Agents.
From my opinion there are way too many Enemy Agents around.
This feels like they taking all Agents on Earth (CIA, Mossad, BND and other) and putt them in one City with 50000 Citizen.

AMEN TO THAT!!

The big problem here is, we as humans will never be as fast as AI. AI is a program running on a computer. Simple test, try calculating 67889085 x 43365634 with only use of your head and do the same on a simple calculator. You will never beat the time the calculator needs to do it. The second time you will calculate it you already know the answer and you wil be faster in answering altough the time needed to write it down will not beat the calculator. But routine, your brain does not need to calculate the answer anymore, will help a lot.
This is the same with the most skilled combat players, they have routine and don't loose time on the thinking process on how to deal with a certain situation.
Traders and explorers don't have this routine and get a hard time dealing with the AI. You would say: "well try harder on getting that routine". This would be the case if you would get that chance.
But a player with novice skills in combat does not get the chance to get that routine, because the ship is already dust before they understand what's happening. Remeber we are talking about AI reaction speed v/s human reaction speed.
The AI also now targets subsystems. Humans need to rotate trough the subsystems before they can target it or open the left pannel and select it trough the subsystems tab and... No surprice there, you lost to mutch time already and end up at your last docked station.
After loosing to many ships you have to go back at trading or doing easy peasy boom data delivery missions to earn enough money to buy a new fighter ship inclusive A type gear. All this time you wont be able to get the now realy needed routine.
And dont forget the most skilled players have earned enough credits to rebuy their shiny new Anaconda, Phyton and even bigger fortrest without needing to worry about this new credits sink.

Myself I have been away from this game to long to have the routine and stuck on around 25 mill credits. To earn more credits I need to be in populated space full with advanced AI NPC's.
I dont even get the time to earn the 55 mill to buy a Phyton, the problably other 50 mill to have desent gear and the problably serveral + 2 mill on insurance costs to get routine in this ship.

The moment you get afraid to undock because you can't afford to loose more, a game stops being a game and becomes a nightmare. Hey I get those for free while sleeping.

I think this is a very telling point. The game is now more unpleasant, dominated by fear of what you might meet. Both trading and combat. I used to try to force myself to not play the game for a while - too addictive and enjoyable. Now it is almost the opposite. Some of this, at least, is due to the recent changes.

True Words.
Okay.
Money is not my Problem but i don´t want to spend all of it for learning to fight against an Unfair AI.
AI got unlimited Ammo, unlimited Chaffs and all the other Stuff.
AI turns faster than myself with FA Off.
AI still sometimes uses Modded Weapons.
Sorry but i want to ENJOY the Game and dont become grey Hairs from it.
I Fly with my Vulture or my FdL in a HazRes and can fight 3-4 Ships before i must return to Station.
Chaffs empty and Hull at 10%.
This has nothing to do with Fun.
The old AI could be fine if FD fix all Bugs and putt some Flight Skills to it.
I hope FD reacts to the Problems or a lot of Players dont play ED anymore.

Maybe FD should turn back the NPCs to 2.0 and instead implement new overpriced weaker weapons to give the pro gamers a challenge.
They can have a golden laser beam. So everyone can see how special they are.

They have NOT removed the modded weapons. *Every* encounter I have with an NPC will show some kind of upgrade, on their part, not me.

I have as others the same problem and there is a bug report but no answer for a week now. I have been attacked in Haz Res every single time and not only the first time. At this point i have stopped going there and waiting for some kind of answer.
