I know what you mean...

But in 7 days, your are going to see someone else enjoying a satisfying Star Citizen burn.

In 8 days, you will bum a SC burn, just to have a taste.

Before long, you will be right back in it :D Or your resolve is much better than mine :p

Burn em. Burn em all! So satisfying! So mature! So deep!

Great conversation! Way better than reddit!

Reddit is an even bigger lulzbucket :D

Some of what has been posted in the defence of CIG there, despite the factual evidence to contrary, has had me in absolute stitches. Sometimes I think that someone is just having a laugh, but no - these people truly believe what they are saying, even though CIG themselves have stated that X is not correct.

Nope. Biggest lulz bucket is right here! It's absolutely hilarious!

I propose the radical suggestion of actually talking about Star Citizen.

All the sniping going on is a bit petty ;)

So my thought's after E3 is that we all rather luckily have two new space games to look forward to!

The surprise reveal of COD:IW looking actually not too bad (not a huge COD fan) and of course the tease of the new Mass Effect :)

Its good to see this market alive and well again and it should be interesting to see how CIG responds to both of these reveals by what they show at Gamescom.

The bar has been raised!

What are you folks thought on what they need to show off to match the splashes generated by these two games?

"If you look at the Twitter history of Liz and “Bandit” they frequently retweet each other’s tweets and generally reinforce each other’s views / opinions. I don’t know Liz’s personal life (nor do I care to) but based on the picture of her in “Bandit’s” tweet it is not a stretch to assume there is either a close relationship between Liz and “Bandit” or they are potentially one and the same... This would explain her approach to the article" - Chris Roberts, CEO of Cloud Imperium Games.

I remember back when we'd have discussions on game mechanics on Reddit. Then CIG staff started showing up and the groupthink we sought to get away from in the forums quickly followed now to the point of it became worse than the hive mind we were trying to avoid.

It's the: "This will be awesome just wait until 2.4. And then the world will see how awesome everything is!". Then 2.4 gets released and it's a steaming pile of buggy crap. Instead of admitting it the mantra becomes: "Well just wait for 2.5, 2.6, no 2.7! It will be totally awesome and it will show the world how totally awesome this thing is!".

This is the discussion I've tried to start a couple times now. You will get nowhere as there is currently no counter to these games above and beyond what we have already seen from CIG. It is slow news day, after slow news week after slow news month. The biggest news from CIG in some time was the space bike picture.

They should disappear of the radar and come back with Star Citizen/Squadron 42 by 2019 as a nice surprise. In between, they should close their doors for any new buyer (long ago actually they should have built that promised wall) and send the message that they have indeed, enough money and closed scope and do not want backers investing more, consideriing that the amount invested is already way above the average.

They should show the good faith, from now, until 2019, that they don't want the backers spending more until they have a great game to play and that they believe that this game will be great enough to make money after release and to attract a larger public.
And they should keep this way along 3 years until near release on 2019, because such attitude, for many years, would make disappear the bad image that has been following CIG along its development from the beginning with their expensive ship-jpeg sales and broken promises, bait-and-switches, contradictions, etc... that also would end with the obsession of the backers to promote/sell the game, instead simply talking about the realities of its development online, leading to a cultish/censorship behavior that has burning its community too... and not attracting more people would avoid more people burned... in a game that is targeted to a niche, that is basically suicide for the medium/long term in their case.

They also should avoid to show stuff that is too far away of been implemented/released. They already have been making the work of any competitor easier than it should.

When you have cultist acting fanboy people then you have the oppsite too. Blind cultist hating people. It is very fun to watch how the one side tries to play out the other without noticing that they allready both became what they basicly fear. I dont see any difference between both sides anymore. Most funny part is that they really belive they could persuade the other side :D So they keep fighting and pushing each other more and more without noticing how childish they act. A good evidance that you deal hear with the blind hate cultist is that you can see how they jump on every tiny detail cig give out to spread fear and hate. And when you say something against that they try to put you in one of these steroetyp groups and say that their side is the best side and you belong to an evil corperation/cult whatever.

I already see my health insurance coverage increasing because some people need a heart surgery by all these negative feelings they built up on themself^^. But if people want to spend their entire day with that stuff i wish you them a lot of fun with that. Iam now going enjoying the good weather outside.

hmm....

I leave that gem to hang there for the record, it is hardly the stance of a dispassionate observer...

Heh, I know, crazy

Perhaps the little banner the mods added to the top of this thread should include this...

Drake Dragonfly Q&A Part 1
Question & Answer
Loaded on a capital ship, can the Dragonfly be stored in the cargo bay or does it need to be placed on a port like any other ship?
For the Compact Mode to be actively deployable, the Dragonfly will need a clear access port inside the ship, though we’re not fully locked in if this will be a full ship-port, or possibly a vehicle-port like the Greycat currently uses in hangars. We’re also still exploring crate-storage for ship transport, which would be more flexible in cargo placement, but any ship stored in this manner would not be immediately accessible for flight.

What does the maneuverability feel like while riding a Dragonfly?

We’re still working out the exact handling and feel of the Dragonfly as it’s being built out. At low speeds, it should feel nimble for its size, but will lose agility at its top speeds. As the trade-off though, expect extremely potent acceleration to its top speed.

Can the Dragonfly still maneuver/fly while in compact mode?

They are still operable in compact mode, but would be restricted to Precision flight speeds until they have been fully deployed into either space or ground modes.

Will you be able to tow anything behind the Dragonfly? i.e. Salvage support.

We’re actively looking into low-speed operations of a handheld tractor beam for the rider, but not in the sense of a deployed tow-cable or trailer-hitch behind the Dragonfly.

What is the fuel consumption like on the Dragonfly? Are these for short stints planetside, or longer journeys?

Consumption is still being worked on for its general performance. Overall, in space you’d be a little more limited in range through a combination of both fuel and EVA suit life support. On a planet, you should definitely feel like you have the range to explore, especially so on one with a breathable atmosphere.

The sale page says this ship can be used as a scout. Can you go into more detail about how this ship might be useful in a scouting capacity? Does it possess any specialty equipment useful to scouting?

While not possessing dedicated scouting equipment, the lower baseline signatures the Dragonfly emits paired with a high acceleration will help it to dart around land and space mostly unseen, blending into the background noise of their environment.

Are there any plans to have some form of emergency exit? I know that Drake ships don’t have ejection seats, but will I be able to push off in time of need?

Yes, both the pilot and the rider would be able to directly bail off the ship in case of emergency.

Will the small size and presumably lower powered components in the Dragonfly mean that it is relatively difficult to detect?

Yes, between its small size and lower resource consumption to operate, expect the Dragonfly to be a hard target to pick up on radar, especially at a distance.

Can you go into more detail about how much protection the shield will really offer?

Realistically, it would be minimal protection. It can help deflect some fire, but will not stand up to a direct assault, especially from a dedicated fighter.

What type of cargo do you predict being held in the saddle bags on the Dragonfly?

Overall, it’s going to be smaller objects, with the most functional being other vehicle-class components. It’s not a large freight hauler, but enough space to carry some essentials with you.

Is the Dragonfly modular in any way? Can it be modified to assist in Salvage, Mining, or Repair by equipping tractor beams or other equipment?

We’re currently focused on getting the base version of the Dragonfly setup and don’t have any custom modules or variants planned out for it at this time. It’s definitely something we can revisit once all of its core gameplay is setup which will let us better determine what additional functionality we can add.

Will the Dragonfly have a HUD like current ships, or will it perhaps use some 30th century version of Bluetooth, to feed that information to the mobiGlas augmented reality?

The Dragonfly will have limited on-board HUD displays with more information able to be fed directly to the users helmet.

We know that oxygen in our space suits will be valuable in EVA. Is there any mechanism on the Dragonfly to extend your oxygen levels?

No, the Dragonfly does not carry any form of on-board life-support, so the pilot and rider would be dependent on their EVA reserves while operating in space or on a planet with a non-breathable atmosphere.

Reverse the 'Verse: Episode 100
TLDR

  • Half hour episode today so not much information.
  • New subscriber perk starting July 1st. Each month they'll give subscribers a ship to fly starting with the Sabre. In the future they might have a poll where subscribers can choose which ship they want for the next month.

However, this has been building up for years, and the loyalists in the SC community made it that way. You can't discuss in a reasonable way, because everything CIG/CR does is wonderful.
What do you take us for? the disaster is right in front of you, at least be honest about it.

I don't know if it was you who posted a missive couple of weeks back during an exchange with one of those guys who kept going on and on about how "backers voted for the increased scope creep". Anyway, I used your excellent response today because it was so good, I had is in a scrapbook.

Anyway, today I was alerted to Batgirl's YouTube video meltdown in which she called dissenting backers, trolls.

I wrote her a letter (scroll down to the comments section).

I cannot understand how they can introduce a mini space ship, charge money for it, yet have no clue as to it's role, function, or indeed how it will operate.

What is even worse, it seems they don't know how anything else is going to operate either.

"and will be revealing a new concept ship."

Yep... as more of this, more doomed they are

"In the future for 10 for the Chairman and other shows they're looking to have it be more focused on what the devs are doing currently rather than future topics."

Apparently they want people to stop to dream with the future and focusing only in what they have in hands or has been done at the moment... hmmmmm.
I guess they want people forgetting the big picture. That is a way to make people feeling that it has more progress than it actually have. And probably they want to make a little harder to the competitors to learn what people want and what CIG claim that will do with what people (space game fans) want.

Changing the shape and form of their shows, obviously has to do with leaving a routine and bringing back the attention to avoid to lose more and try to earn more subscribers.

I was thinking about how two years ago people were complaining about "more stuff less fluff" in Wingman's Hangar, but seems like we got more information on what they were thinking in terms of how game mechanics were going to work from Irving and Peterson than we have since their departure from the project. A lot of the mechanics people assume will be there and how it will operate were delivered by those two gentleman and there's no telling where things stand today.

I know last year at this time those of us fighting for balanced and decent controls and to revise the flight model basically asked CIG: "How is this thing supposed to fly?". It was a question we never got a clear answer to as per example Elite stated from the Alpha they were going for WWII in space dogfighting hence why they nerfed pitch & yaw. Some people may not like that flight model, but you can't say they didn't nail it. CIG was never able to answer that question. Instead they did the "deep dive" post about how they were going to have their different flight modes for different "styles" of gameplay and they were add "jerk" values to thrusters. Still they couldn't tell us something like: "Close to Diaspora" or "Allegiant" style" or "I-War" or "freelancer with cockpits". It is as though they are rudderless in that direction. They don't know what they are trying to build and therefore missing the mark because there is no mark to aim towards. This is stuff that should have been ironed out more than 2 years ago.
Remember when Wingman got banned from the RSI forums for daring to answer a question about the game he was working on? Fun times.

Skimming through that article all we get are blatant lies and skewed half-truths lol . It's literally yelling at clouds. The most hilarious was the inclusion of this poster because it's the only thing 100% on point in that whole blog lol:

As comparing Star Citizen with Mammoths (who did in fact survived the Meteorite Extinction event, you might know them as Elephants and they mostly roam Africa and Asia now) was actually a very accurate way of portraying that when you have a resilient entity who is able to adapt their environment, unexpected and sudden events they are able to overcome adversities against all the odds.

I would be interested in a point by point rebuttal of those "lies and half truths". Are you up to the task?
