A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

Keep pushing your faction's influence up. It won't hurt if your faction is higher, it should actually make the war more likely. Try to get it over 70%.
However, don't let the controlling faction get too close in influence to any other factions. but this is unlikely with the numbers you have described.
There are two ways of triggering a war. One is to equalise the influence levels of two factions, the other is for a faction to get over 60-70%. So you are doing it right.
.
What maddavo says about the state of the controliing faction in other systems is correct. Check in galmap for the faction states of the nearby systems. If this faction (or your one) is in a conflict or election in another system you may need to take steps to end the war. It won't hurt your efforts in your system to help your opponents in another system.

Thanks guys.

Hi folks,
I posted this question on a new thread but have been advised to ask it here, so here we go...

I have been told that the Commodity Market is not effected by human input but is that correct?

When we took over a station, there were multiple goods in 'High Supply' and yes we traded these goods.

Now there is just one single commodity in 'High Supply' (I do not count bio waste [redface] )

On the other side there are multiple items in high demand including ALL metals (except copper)

Can we address this by bringing in copious amounts of metals?

Would bringing in large amounts of materials cause the station to go into 'Bust'? We have just come out of our fourth expansion and are now in 'Pending Boom'

Any and all advice is as usual, greatly appreciated.

NOTE how my question is related to bump starting production and NOT about trading per se

I accept by trading we can make prices fluctuate and I accept that if we keep buying commodities, the supply ranking will fall. My question is all about how can we kick-start the manufacture of commodities?

Thanks again
John

Hi Glojo. Can you give us a little more information:

- Is there a Power exploiting the system?

- Is the controlling faction in a Boom state?

Hi,
We are a fairly newish minor faction and have only been going for a few months. The system I am concerned about is our main base. We are the controlling faction. We are not being exploited, there is no outside influence!

I say this as when I trade the only commodity in high supply it will show up on the news bullentin location that the market is moving.

We are quite busy going from expansion, pending boom, boom then pending expansion and back to the start of this cycle. There has been a break where for three days we had a civil war to take over one of our systems but we are once again in a state of pending boom.

The High Demand state of the commodity market is eye catching and not something we have seen before.

We have slowed down our trading from this main station but sadly the supply items are not at the level they have been at. We regularly had several products in 'High Supply' We now only have one (not including that bio waste)

Sounds to me like you're back in conflict in a different system, and that's why supply is down in your home station. Depending on the timing of your last expansion, the conflict either released the expansion, or you expanded into a new system and immediately matched influence and went conflict pending.

If you don't have an active economic state, I think conflict elsewhere is the most likely culprit.

I think you have hit the nail on the head as we have been in conflict which ended yesterday.

Rather than trading from the station so much, why not try supplying it with as much of what it says it needs as possible..
I have been bringing in expensive metals BUT.... The station buys them from me and they are NOT available for resale! Last night I sold 500 tons of the most expensive metals. Today there are still no metals for sale. All these metals are still in high demand!

I think Szyslak22 is correct because in the last few hours the supply of goods is definitely improving, there are now SEVERAL items back in 'High Supply'.

The way I understand it buying goods from the market reduces the supply available, that supply is topped up each day using a mechanic that determines the production capacity of the system.

Afaik the production mechanic is unknown but I would expect it to be affected by several of the hidden BGS statistics of a system. We know that systems have wealth, tech level and development level statistics and that BGS states can affect these values. The devs have said that Expansion lowers the wealth of a system, it could be that your cycle of expansions has reduced your production capacity.

Yup. You can sometimes see the goods falling as we buy them but that had nothing to do with the extra-ordinary amount of commodities that were in 'High demand' plus the visible lack of goods available to buy. This was most definitely not caused by trading and I am quite confident now that it was indeed caused by the civil war we were involved. I UST however emphasis that this was NOT in the same system. The civil war was NOT in the system that had this commodity issue.

this isn't important in that case. a minor faction can have only one active state - if it is in civil war, it has the state of civil war in all systems it is present in, and markets and mission spawns are influenced the same way.

Hi folks.
Has anyone got an example of weather retreat trumps civil unrest? Or can they run concurrently?
We have tried to get an interloper into retreat and today they are at 2.6% (would you believe it) but went active CU.
Cheers

investment and war been seen active both at the same time, bug report filed (with combatzones in ceasefire). from that, i assume that there is a bug around retreat/investment and conflict states.
